No the Giants are the Leagues good boy. They don't get involved with anybody that is even involved with legal battles even if it's just questioning. Jones on the other hand has hired 3 parole officers and provided them with access to game seating and the keys to D-Block and has no shame.....that speaks mountains about who he is and what he is about....Darn shame..All the Dallas fans are ecstatic that they had Collins, Hardy and Gregory available...gee I wonder why?....the dumbasses don't even recognize that 31 other teams passed on them....morals and values?.......Dallas?....none.....Then the league votes Jones NFL Executive of the Year.....Tells you quite a bit  doesn't it.

@jayhawkey

 I 1000% stand behind the Giants bringing in players with high character and minimal off-field concerns. With that, signing Collins could have put the Giants OL in a great position for the years to come. It was a mistake not aggressively pursuing him as an UDFA.

At the end of the day, you need guys on your team who can play football. Jerry Jones wants to win a Super Bowl and he wants to win now. He's going to do everything in his power to keep these guys out of trouble. If he manages to do so and win a SB in the next 3 seasons, everyone will forget the off-field concerns the players had. If trends continue, Collins/Hardy/Gregory may all have jobs as analysts for the NFL in 10 years! (Ray Lewis, Michael Irvin)

In the NFL, winning trumps everything. We don't have to agree with it, but that's just how it is. Jones doesn't care what anyone thinks of him, he has his eyes on the prize.

Also pretty sure Jones won EOY based off drafting Martin and not Manziell!

Can't wait for the NFL season! Go Giants!

@jaymanjay Even if they didn't use a 7th round pick on him, Reese should have shown some urgency and sign him quickly as a UDFA. Agreed,Giants missed the boat on this.

damn, plowboys don't even need him...we do

thom

@rico you also build on your strengths........they do need him.......I read that Romo advocated for him big-time - as did the other OL guys.......Jerry Jones brought him into his main residence and did the deal......

Sorry I think this is a DUMB move on the Giants part and it is this scenario that the Giants could have prevented. This is by far the worst case that could have happened. If it is true that he was on the Giants big board before the issue then there is zero reason they don't use a 7th rounder and pick him up.

I DONT care if he could potentially not sign and sit out a year CALL his BLUFF. There are not a lot of guys who are willing to basically shut it down and not play football for an entire year in order to not play for the team that drafted you or a lot of players in the draft would do this. Fact is its very rare

And even if Collins does so its worth the risk. What you don't want is first round talent going to the Cowboys for peanuts and that's what the Giants allowed. Just DUMB. And once again it proves that Reese is way more scout than tactician when it comes to the draft. That was another missed opportunity that might burn them for the next decade way to go Blue.

@jaymanjay

(1) you don't draft a guy to prevent him from going to another team.......(2) Collins was on every teams big board...........my understanding he was not eligible for the 2016 draft and I believe the teams knew that before the draft began......football teams are not in the business of calling an 'agents bluff' on a pre-draftee guy........the scouts, the owner, the GM and the head coach determine risk, not anyone else.......no one knew how this was going to play out and the Cowboys were never mentioned at all last week ......did you think of this scenario?.......why is it that all of the other 32 teams passed on him but Reese is the dumb one?......so now, Reese is responsible for Collins going to Dallas?.....would it have been easier for  you had the Dolphins signed him?......

if Mara wanted La' El Collins drafted it would have been done!......if any of the other 31 owners wanted Collins the picks would have been made!......hindsight is 100%......real easy for you one week, one poly-test and one DNA test later to once again, dump on Reese - Accorsi's requested successor........

youR just wrong. There was almost zero risk in signing him in the seventh round considering that most don't even make the roster. so our last selection hart is probably less likely to make the Giants roster than Collins a first round talent. So even if Collins ended up being charged you cut him no big deal since a 7th rounder is most likely a crapshoot any. In fact 7th round are exactly the type of picks you use on guys like Collins or troubled players. The Giants DROPPED the ball on this plain and simple. They overreacted along with the rest of the league who was thinking about hernandez when this case was completely different circumstances. The Cowboys must have had a in some way because they quickly signed.

The reward clearly out paced the risk here stop being blind it's common sense.

@jaymanjay

Because of the AH drama in Mass, this guy was " kryptonite" last week.....again, none of the other teams drafted him.....hindsight is 100% and you're now crying for a pick that no one wanted....also, you have already declared Bobby Hart a bust? ....and a 7th rounder is most likely a crapshot?...what about Ahmad Bradshaw and many other guys who had careers drafted that late?...using your logic, the NFL should just eliminate the 7th round altogether.....how cavalier you are with a draft pick.....as of last week, this case had all the earmarks of being similar to the AH case!......that's why no one drafted him - even Dallas!......Collins played down south and Jerry Jones was very aggressive the past few days and made a fully-guaranteed offer - there was a big comfort level there for him to sign...no one knew how this was going to play out last week - Not Even You......this pick was toxic last week and you're now saying it was honey......then how come none of the other owners and GM's didn't take your advice?.....where were you last week?.....

stop blaming Reese.....selecting humans to slam each other and win the trophy is not an easy business - get over it - the other teams have!

@jaymanjay If we signed him in the 7th round, he would've refused to sign.  Which would have made him eligible for the 2016 draft.  Unless the multiple outlets that reported this is wrong, that's exactly what would've happened.

No one should say "Oh the Giants dropped the ball, they should've drafted him".  Every team passed on him. There were over 250 picks, not one team used a pick on him for a reason.  The kid wouldn't sign if he wasn't drafted within the first 3 rounds, and he was not cleared in a murder investigation.  It's just that simple.

thom

coulda, woulda, shoulda......hindsight is always 100%......last week no one knew how this was going to turn out and the fact that all 32 teams passed on him raises the possibility of some form of edit from the NFL about picking him - they didn't want the possibility of another AH case.....as for the Giants, he was never destined to come to us anyway because of the way the draft played out......with Landon Collins still hanging out there at the 2nd round, the Giants would have done the same thing: trade up......La' El would have been gone the next time we picked..........no one knew last week and they were afraid.....ditto the NFL........move on!

KS

Makes zeros sense why the Giants (or every other team) wouldn't have spent a 7th round pick on him.

gmen

@KS  The reason no one drafted him late is that he would have had the option to not sign and reenter the draft next year.  He almost certainly would have done this

That offensive line is ridiculous. Sucks. We should have had Odell do some recruiting.
