Roster News: Jets Sign WR Gilyard, Waive Hicks

The Jets have announced that they have cut offensive lineman Hayworth Hicks and have reportedly signed wide receiver Mardy Gilyard. Hicks was only on the active roster for the minimum three week period and the Jets will now perhaps try and add him to the practice squad. Gilyard was picked up by the Jets last year in September and although he was cut within a week and did not make it onto the opening day roster, he lasted just long enough to get the BGA scouting report treatment.
Gilyard spent part of this season with the Eagles and although he only played six snaps on offense, he did field five punts (returning two for 15 yards) and made five tackles in kick coverage, so special teams may be somewhere he can improve the team. In fact, if you read the scouting report on him, that’s where I thought he’d help last time, too.
