Nothing’s official yet, but Rex Ryan made it sound like during his press conference that the new defensive coordinator would be named soon and that it would be an internal candidate.

According to Manish Mehta, Thurman will take over.

It’s a facinating dynamic going into 2013.  Rex Ryan wants to put his “attacking” stamp on the offense but will revert back to more gameday control of the defense in 2013 — thereby leaving him less time to control the offense.  With that in mind, the Jets better be even more sure about whoever they hire as the new offensive coordinator since they’ll be likely working without as much oversight.
