Yesterday the Jets announced Antwan Barnes had torn his ACL against the Atlanta Falcons and would be placed on the injured reserve ending his season. As a result, the Jets re-signed the linebacker they cut last Friday, Ricky Sapp, to the team but also worked out four linebackers (though none were signed) according to Aaron Wilson of National Football Post.
According to Wilson, the team worked out former Vandy LB Tim Fugger, UNC’s Quan Sturdivant (6th rounder by Arizona in 2011) and Caleb McSurdy (Montana) and former Cowboy Deon Lacey.
Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.comThe Jets are doing their homework for a player they might sign down the road, but now in their second day of practice for the given week, we don’t expect them to make any more moves at the linebacker spot between now and next week.
The Jets are going to miss the pass rush capabilities of Barnes, so Quinton Coples will need to pick up more work this week as a rush linebacker, but keep in mind that Calvin Pace is playing passably with an upgraded defensive front. The loss of Barnes hurts, but the Jets will figure out how to scheme around his loss.
