Rex has noting to worry about with the Jets or anyone else.

resume--with a great defense he created and an average offense he inherited he went to AFC Championship 2 yrs in a row

With a bad QB and an average Offense he went 8-8

With the worst QB in history and a terrible OC he won 6 games

With a better OC, a rookie 2nd rd QB and an offense with no weapons he won 8 games despite expectations of 5 or less.

Compare to John Idzik-- This year he was a rookie GM. He brought in Ivory., landry and nelson, Goodson too but he got hurt. lost a Landry too and traded the best defensive player in  Jet history

he spent no money on FA's and his draft picks were Richardson_Outstanding, Milner-- maybe good but less than average this year , Same for Geno, and after that ...nothing  a rookie guard and FB who were less than average

he unlike Rex has no track record as a GM, he has no identity with the Jets fans or players  as does Rex.  The total burden for next year is on him, can his scout team draft players that will make a difference now and in the future, can he get quality Fa's for prices that don't kjill us in the future, can he get extensions on our young defensive linemen to lock them up and resign role players from this years team?

If he can't do that and Rex can deliver even a 9-7 playoff record, if I was Woody , I would not be looking at Coaching changes but maybe getting a GM who has a record of achievement.  Rex can go anywhere if the jets don't reup him next year. idzik would be Tannenbaums gofer on Sports talk shows if he can't get players for Rex. if he does and Rex doesn't deliver than Rex goes, but the real burden is on Idzik..CAN HE GET PLAYERS?  if he does then he can look at naming coaches but not before.

What if Rex decides to see what is out there? He does have the option to resign, as far as I know.

If I am him, I would explore all the options as what I am hearing about Idzik wanting to dictate assistant coaches is a bunch of crap.

How foolish would the Jets look if after all this, Rex ends up leaving?

I think Idzik wants to bring in assistants and coaches that he wants or has made Promises to in Seattle. Someone should tell him that this is New York we Break Promises. #ahandshakedontmeansh!t

So is draft pick order just reverse league standings? We pick 14th?

8 and 8 is not what I wanted obviously. Beating Brady, Brees and sending the Goldfish fishing gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside.  Color me Impressed.

Ok, so they are keeping Rex but now Im wondering what Coordinators and other coaches will be kept. I know theres talk of Idzik bringing in his own DC but I think that will undermine Rex and HIS D. Not sure how that would work. Dunbar had better be back!  I assume Marty will be back and Geno has improved so Lee seems to be doing his job. The RBs have done well, Ivory picked up the new system and Powell continues to improve so they make their coach look good. As for the others the LBs, DBs, STsand WRs  have left me wanting...

As in the Fredo scene in the Godfarher,Idzik to Rex: I knew it was you all along.

I would have to give most improved player to Dee Milliner.  He really came on the last two games give him an off season and a full training camp and maybe next year he'll actually start getting his head around in coverage. I think Pace may have earned himself another one year deal. Probably bye,bye to Cro,Holmes,Landry,Sanchez. I say we keep Wilson.Harris and Davis were solid but can we do better inside?

Money and draft picks, things are looking up this off season. How will a healthy Barnes and Hazelton who showed so much promise early in the season contribute next year?

I have no idea what to expect out of Idzik, does he hold true to last years form? Or was that just what he felt he had to do to straighten out the books and set this year up. Will he bring in any key FA acquisitions or will he follow his keep the wallet closed form of last year.

Very interested to see what shakes out.

Its nice of Tom Petty to congratulate Rex like that.

If the Jets didn't have Marty I would say go all-in on Chud as an OC. Mike Lombardi is once again proven why he shouldn't be in charge of anything, ever.

57, your comment sounds like many in the media. On a very positive day for the Jets, when everyone should be celebrating, you choose to manufacture something negative. Rex has said repeatedly he loves being the HC of the Jets and that he and Idzik have a great, repeat, great relationship. And they have both repeatedly said ALL decisions are collaborative. Why make up some unfounded controversy?

@DarrolRayFanClub We'd be after the Giants who are 12th pick because of SOS. I figured it out myself not by clicking all over the internet. Have a nice day! Ha!

@DarrolRayFanClub I just had a cold chill thinking the Pats could actually win the SB in our home stadium this year.

ah NVM just googled it looks like we have 17. Should still be able to land a big time receiver there

@levi yeah...I'd hate to have idzik bring in coaches that Rex doesn't fully support, it creates a conflict of interest.   but as long as Dunbar stays I'm happy.  Lynn i thought did a decent with the running backs, and it may make sense to keep Lee to give genocide some continuity.

@levi don't worry about a DC undermining Rex, what's the point of having him if he doesn't control the defense?

@johnnyl65 That scene had a significantly different tone than Rex/Idzik's embrace.

@Brendan haha, and for much of the year it seemed like the Browns actually had a great thing going. So glad that Marty should be back, especially with Goodson back and hopefully his choice of skill players moving forward

@marshrandy Out of curiosity what would our pick have been had we lost yesterday?

levi

@marshrandy Not saying it had anything to do with it because the injuries certainly affected their play but the DBs have struggled bad since Thurman was promoted to DC.

@DarrolRayFanClub

Rex can resign his position as HC of the Jets and then talk to any team he wants about a contract.

If he signed somewhere else, the league would probably require some compensation to the Jets but it can be done.

It is NOT foolish to think this isn't a possibility as this scenario has happened before, it is foolish to stick your head in the sand.
