1st time i've heard that jets QB smith is better than the cream of the 2014 QB draft.
with all the hype, i thought it was the other way around

Salary cap projected to rise to about $133 million this year, expected to break $140 million next year and $150 million by 2016, per source

NOBODY is going to be in cap hell at this rate.  How convenient that when the Jets were tight up to the cap, there was a cap squeeze but now that they're fine and the Cowboys are screwed, the NFL manages to find a bunch of room.

Not trying to suggest a pro-Cowboys conspiracy because the cap penalties were what landed them in that mess anyway, but it's unfortunate for the Jets to have a ton of cap space when prices will be going up and everyone will be spending and bidding against each other.  They EASILY could have used up some of the 2014 cap room last year, spent enough to make themselves into a contender and would probably have gotten better value for money because there was such a squeeze around the league in 2013.

You could say this was poor planning by Idzik, although I'm not sure there was any way to predict this.  Maybe Tannenbaum was ready for it though.  We'll never know.

Looks like the comments here are working now...

I like Carr. I won't be surprised if he is the best QB of this class

@a57se  I can't wait for Hank's take on this. Should be rich.

@a57se  Yeah, that's the $3 million that kickers now make. The market has shifted.

Miller as always is good. I agree with Martavis Bryant, his #4 guy on the move up. Big, very fast, moves fluidly. Overshadowed by Watkins and Hopkins. Would like him in round 3-4. Seems he might go higher.

That mock draft sucks.  If we did that we should be relegated like in European soccer.

Terrible, Terrible, Terrible!!

I am talking about the drafttek one, not yours.

@Bent  This is absurd. I guess it does bode well for our ability to go after some FAs, though (And not worry about keeping our guys)

@Bent  I thought it was a conspiracy to allow the Saints to keep Jimmy. :-<

@Bent  Somewhere Tanny is crying over this missed opportunity.

Van Noy did not look as fluid as I expected.  I think he may be a late 2nd round or early third round pick now.

@a57se  I'd be really pumped with this outcome! We'd argue individual players till the cows come home, but conceptually this looks great to me. Add that to Tate/Decker, Shields and Asomoah and this team rocks.

@Disgruntled Jets Fan @Bent  But it didn't over the last couple of years, when perhaps it could've.

They aren't paying Performance Based Pay this year because they couldn't afford to and still raise last year's cap ... why not reverse that decision which actually benefits lower and underpaid guys instead of increasing the cap by loads so that the top guys just get overpaid more?

@a57se  I posted mine first in the other thread and then deleted it and moved it here, actually, so *sticks out tongue*.

@a57se @Marcus Armstrong  Either, actually. Not fond of Ka'Deem Carey, but yeah, other than that it was fine, and while I'm not big on Lee at 18, I'd love to come away with KVN, so I'll take it.

The league meetings are where the comp picks are finalized.

harold
harold

I know he is fragile but a comp pick in the 5th is for that players with less than ideal measurables or medical issues.

harold
harold

Maybe even a 5th round comp pick after his 4.26 combine.  Plus to be fair he has good tape.  But his upside may be a slightly better Mel Gray on offense and you can only hope that good on specials.

harold

Dri Archer in the 3rd round is just ridiculous.

harold

Lawrence seems like he could be a player.

See you later have to run out.

harold
harold

I watched his tape he is a little slow off the edge to me.  He can be good in with our D-line, but I would not take him before our 80th pick (2nd 3rd rounder) in round 3.

@harold  Waddya think of Attaochu?

I like Jones from FSU as a developmental guy.  I talk to you guys later

harold

I don't think so either, but a man can dream can't he?

harold
harold

Yeah, but I really think with teams that love underneath offense in our division we need to upgrade the MLB position.

The Pats, Dolphins and Bills all run underneath schemes.  So we need to shore that up to really dominate our division.

harold
harold

Add in Tate and Daryl Smith (as long as we are dreaming) at 5 million for punts and solid #2/3 WR and draft well and we could win the division if my hunch on Geno is right.

harold
harold

It is possible.  We will know in less than 2 weeks.  I expect us to sign 2 quality F/A in the first 72 hours of F/A.

harold
harold

They would but he will probably be a top 4 guy salary wise at the position this year that would probably mean 8.5 to 9.5 APY.

Not sure we would go that high with him.  Although I agree he could be a good fit.

harold
harold

Colts have cap space as well and he played well for them.  Not sure he is a realistic option either, but like Shields we could blow his doors off.  I just think he and DRC (Cromartie) are more inconsistent than the other top CB.  So I am less inclined to sign them.

Although Davis had a great year in 2013.

Bytor

@a57se @Bytor  Great, thanks for putting in the time. I don't agree with all the players either, but conceptually it ticks all my boxes.

harold
harold

I love Shields but he is looking much less likely unless we blow his doors off.  Because the Packers have a lot of cap room as well, especially with the increased cap.

I thought he might get away before because they had less room and maybe he might slip through the cracks.

We may have to look at 2nd tier guys like Tarell Brown (I think he is underrated), Captain Munnerlyn, and Walter Thurmond.

Or even bring back Cro and pray he returns to his 2012 form and realizes at his age he must play bump and run to compensate for his declining change of direction and speed.
