If you’ve not heard the news, in 2012 Nike will be providing uniforms and sideline apparel to the NFL. Rather than be good sports about the news, Nike took the opportunity to spit on Reebok’s proverbial grave by saying “we plan on changing the NFL jersey dramatically just like we’ve done with the college programs, using new thinking and the greatest technology available. The NFL program hasn’t had the same type of advancement in recent years.” Boom. Roasted.
So while many have wondered just what Nike might try and do, an intrepid designer took to the idea of creating his own Nike Proto “Pro Combat” unis that have been bouncing around teh Internets for a few days now, here’s a link to a series of images. Also, a quick check to what they’ve done in NCAA would lead one to believe, that they’re not going to get as radical as they would like to think they are.
While some are creative, and I do like the Jets re-imaging, I can’t imagine the NFL allowing some of these designs – some of which are almost arena league-ish in nature to pass muster. Look at the new Chargers uni … ee-yikes. Or take a look at the Patriots, a uniform which would have hundreds of American flags symbolically touching the ground during every single game. Sorry, not gonna happen in the very patriotic NFL.
Thanks to Chris and Jesse for sending these in.
