Around the AFC East: Week 8 Edition

afc-east-wk8
What’s going on around the AFC East?  Here’s your quick fix on what’s happening in the other three AFC East cities.

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (Overall: 5-1 | Division: 2-1) – Sounds like Rob Gronkowski had an interesting week! Boston Sports Hub’s Toucher & Rich have Bibi Jones explain (bottom of the page) it herself … In other news, the Patriots released CB Leigh Bodden — not that surprising since his game was showing serious cracks last season.  The Patriots are on the mend, but they are going to have a tough task this weekend in taking on Pittsburgh.  Let’s hope the Steel Curtain comes down on Brady that it did on Bret Michaels last year.

BUFFALO BILLS (Overall: 4-2 | Division 1-0) ) – You can always tell a Harvard man by the boatload of jack he gets on an in-season contract extension.  Let’s hope Buddy Nix knows what he’s doing … just like his drafting of Aaron Maybin then cutting him loose, and his pick of CJ Spiller 9th overall in 2010.   The Bills are going to have a tough time if they lose Kyle Williams for too long … looks like it might be that much easier for the Jets to try and run inside of the Bills next weekend …

MIAMI DOLPHINS (Overall: 0-6 | Division: 0-2) – It’s a tough situation for Tony Sparano when Stephen Ross is already confirmed to have been in touch with Cowher.  But sometimes it’s fun to play in the detritus. Of course, Cowher might yet take the job in Miami, but Ross looks foolish after botching Harbaugh last year and then contacting Cowher now and letting it get to the press while Sparano’s body is not yet cold.  Cowher is going to want full control and a team that has a legitimate shot soon.  Knowing his rocky relationship with Ben Roethlisberger early on, it would be interesting if he would do a rebuild in Miami …

Just to be fair doing some checking his weight may be misleading several different sources have him listed as being 175 but another source says hes168!!

Not all Toews's are created equal.

If he gains 25 lbs, he'd be too small. I hope there's enough pizza pies in this world to add some bulk to him.

there you barph drafting those smurf defensemen again

Mark Pomerantz

Which of island top defensive prospects are smurfs .

Reinhart pulock pokka mayfield pedan pelech?

Are dal colle lee or Nelson smurfs.

There is no tendency towards small players.....

There are certainly some small.....but plenty of big boys

As usual garth going for smurfs. Mindset people. The mindset of a poor gm is to wish that smallish players play bigger (debateable) or that they won't be exploited by bigger players. Mindset. Its gotta change. It wont under snow.

155lbs.? Come on. Even if he 10 pounds of muscle, its not good.

I have been to a lot of Quinnipiac games and this kid can play but is way too small.

Personally I think this guy is 15-20lbs too heavy for the Isles. The Fly Weight Champion of the Worls is 5'6" 106lbs....I think getting someone like him makes more sense.

None of you guys seem to understand the Snow/Wang plan. It is to keep drafting smaller and smaller players until they are totally invisible.

Charles says an invisible team would be almost as good as an all Chinese team except for two Sumo Wrestler goalies.

Why would they waste a pick on a defensemen that is under 6 feet? He is obviously not Bobby Orr or Denis Potvin, this not a crapshoot this is an embarrassment, you mean to tell me there was nobody bigger or younger in this draft anywhere? You take fliers on Big people not players that have already been drafted. Why bother drafting anyone then? Management needs to answer this!

@j_spikett Tory Krug listed at 5'9" and 181'bs scored 14G and added 21A for 40pts.

I am really livid over this all of the people u mentioned happened to be big anyone not mentioned is small which is everyone else in the organization. Therefore draft big players how the heck did Boston Anaheim la and all the top teams get big? They drafted them so it's only a crapshoot if u r not prepared if u r it becomes an educated guess. If they r drafting just to fill Bridgeport then they r in the wrong business. Bridgeport will be good when the isles have overflowing talent and that ain't happening soon.

Only nelson has played in the nhl the rest have yet to and some of those guys you mentioned probably wont this year.

@bammer26 you wonder why people rag snow so much. This is an example.

Seventh rd picks have almost no chance of making the NHL. 1 guy a year equals a 3% success rate... 3% equals basically no chance. That list of 3% guys are mostly if not completely European players. Those days are over, as Europe is rightfully flooded with NHL scouts since the days of the Red Wings making everybody look stupid. 10 years ago, nobody drafts Pokka, yet now he is considered a steal with the first pick in rd 3.

But late rd picks can serve a role/fill a need within the organization at B-Port and Stockton. It might not be the answer you want to read, but it is a honest, truthful response.

It isn't apples to apples comparison, but NBA second rd picks are at best bench players, most NFL 6 and 7 rd picks enjoy short careers- despite a roster twice the size of NHL teams, and MLB has 40 rounds. After the top 5 rounds, the odds of success are tiny in MLB.

They guy in question is 5'11"- without seeing him, at 5'11"- there is clearly room to pack weight on his frame. Probably not enough weight, but that is why he is being picked in rd 7....

Enjoy your day, the game is going to penalty kicks- gotta spilt.

that is a ridiculous statement. they are not ready to play in the nhl. should we rush them for you? also didnt mayfield a play a game or two for the Islanders?

jimmydev
jimmydev

@rmdeparts This is why if you take a chance you go for the 6'5" guy you might as well not even draft. The point is there is nobody in the NHL that is that big 5'11" and a great defensemen, the guy from Ottawa has major skills that's why he was a number 1 pick. From the 3rd round on they should all just be 6"3" or better

orange2327
orange2327

@rmdeparts at most he's what 175lbs. Ridiculous even for you.

orange2327
orange2327

I didnt see he mentioned lee my bad but most of the others have yet to play an nhl game.

orange2327
orange2327

@islesfan77 he might of played one game so what?? What does that prove?? Oooooh he played one meaningless game or 2 during garbanzo time. Big effing deal.

islesfan77
islesfan77

@jimmydev  So in your world, you draft the bigger, less skilled guy?  Yeah, with that logic, I think we are better off with Snow in charge and that's really bad.

islesfan77
islesfan77

Well, first it means you were wrong. Second, the point is that they are not ready for the NHL. Didn't Pelech just complete juniors?

orange2327
orange2327

@islesfan77 no hes saying in the later rounds you opt for size when you can and I agree with that.
