Hidden within Rich Cimini’s article about possible free agency targets was one as-yet unleashed nugget about former Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown:
The Jets have interest, according to sources. Brown’s production has declined steadily in recent years, but he knows Sparano’s offense and could fill a need. The Jets want a back to complement Shonn Greene and they’re not sure if Bilal Powell is ready.
With LaDainian Tomlinson set to leave, the Jets would be wise to consider adding a low-cost veteran back who can pass protect, even if Brown’s days as a lead back are a thing of the past.
Cimini’s article goes over some other free agency options, most of which have been discussed ad nauseum or ruled out for whatever reason. However, PFF’s team needs article is also worth a look and they again suggest a couple of less-than-obvious options. You may recall that they identified Antwan Barnes as a possible target last year. Barnes was indeed targeted by the Jets but ended up in San Diego where he gradually increased his playing time as the season went on, eventually ending up with double-digit sacks.
