2011 Analysis: The Jets didn’t use Patrick Turner during the first half of the season in the offense — but as the Jets traded Mason, TE Jeff Cumberland was put on injured reserve, Plaxico wore down, and most notably in the last game when Santonio quit — Turner saw some more time as a receiver. Turner acquitted himself well enough as a backup player. There’s room for improvement, but he did help the team when he was out there … the question will be whether he can do more in coming years.
2012 Outlook: He still has some things to work on, but for a player from whom much wasn’t expected offensively, when he did play, he played very well enough to not get drummed off the field. 2012 seems more uncertain. The Jets have been looking to bring along some larger bodied receivers like Cumberland and Turner specifically, but it’s hard to say just how that will fit Sparano’s style of offense.
Random Thought: If there’s one good thing about going back to work for the man who cut him two years ago in Miami, it’s that at least he’d at least be familiar with some of the new terminology … which might help him out.
