NFL Draft Round Two Conference Call – WR Stephen Hill, 4.27

On how he felt when he found out he was a Jet…

I was happy because we had a lot of conversations and I felt really at home there. I’m just happy to get started.

On why he felt at home with the Jets…

Just the coaches and the way they coach and what type of attitude they have towards football. I feel the same way. They’re big, big winners. I really enjoy playing with the coaches at Georgia Tech and now I’m ready to go with Coach Rex Ryan because I know he’s a big winner.

On what he thinks of the Jets offensively and catching passes from Mark Sanchez…

I feel great. Especially now, I’m in more of an offense where I can catch the ball a little bit more. And you know, catching the ball from Mark Sanchez is great. I’m going to make sure I get with him as soon as possible and we both try to get this roll on.

On transitioning from the triple-option to an NFL offense…

It’s going to be a big transition. I feel like it’s going to be a big transition for all draft picks because we’re all coming in as rookies. But other than that, I’m ready to go, I’m ready to learn.  I’m a quick learner so I’m ready to see how things are going to fall out.

On what he can bring to the offense…

A lot of big plays down the field and getting big touchdowns in the right time, of course. But other than that I feel like I can bring a lot, actually. Especially with blocking, I can definitely put somebody on their butt.

On the Jets liking receivers who will block…

Yes, they liked my physicality a lot. So they just want me to transfer that over to, of course, getting off jams and making sure the corner doesn’t cover me as well.

On the contact he had with the Jets…

They actually came to my Pro Day. I actually had a formal meeting with them, we had a private work out and I actually visited them. They had a little bit of background on me and I had a big background on them so it feels like I’m in the right spot.

On how the triple-option will help him contribute to the offense…

I feel like I will learn something new. Whatever they bring to the table, I’m going to come in there and just fit in wherever I fit in. And whatever coach wants me to do, that’s what I’m going to do.

On looking forward to catching passes from Tim Tebow…

Both of them, they’re great athletes. They’re both winners and I’m ready to just go.

On running a 4.3 at the combine…

Correct.

On if he routinely runs a 4.3 in the 40…

That was definitely routine. I worked a lot on that. I actually told the Jets I was going to actually run that time. It was definitely routine.

On telling the Jets he was going to run a 4.3 at the combine…

Yeah, that’s right.

On how running a 4.3 in the 40 helped his draft stock…

I think it helped me a lot. Especially showing the type of athleticism that I have, even though I didn’t get a chance to show it as much on the field, but I definitely think it did help me out.

On waiting at Radio City Music Hall and being picked…

It was definitely a long day of waiting. But you know, wherever I was picked, I was just happy to go to that team. I’m definitely glad that I’m with the Jets. Today, once I heard that the Jets traded I really didn’t have any idea (they would pick me) until that phone started ringing. I just got so happy that I didn’t answer the phone on the first ring.

On where he thought he might end up …

Not as much.  I always had that feeling that the Jets were definitely going to pick me up, I just didn’t know where.

On feeling the need to prove himself in the pre-draft process…

Oh yes, definitely. I definitely had a lot to prove. People thought I wasn’t even going to run that fast. So I definitely had to show them that I can run fast and other than that, my explosion coming out of my breaks and getting down low, making sure that I get out of my breaks as quick as possible.

NFL Draft Round Three Conference Call – LB Demario Davis, 4.27

On transitioning to inside linebacker…

I’m ready to play wherever the coaches put me. Wherever they have me playing, I’m going to be ready to contribute as best I can.

On if he knew the Jets were going to pick him…

I just kept my mind open because I didn’t know who it would be. A lot of teams showed a lot of interest. The Jets told me they really liked me a lot, but I was just ready for whoever called. I’m glad they called because I wouldn’t want to be with anybody but the New York Jets.

On excitement about playing with Jet’s defense…

All I can say is I’m ready to play like a Jet.

On what round he thought he might get drafted in…

I wasn’t sure. I was just waiting for the phone call, and whichever round they called me I was going to be ready to go and do what I had to do.

On experience covering tight ends…

I covered tight ends a lot. I covered wide receivers as well. I think one of the things the coaches liked (was) that I could go out there and cover in space. I tried to show that when the coaches came down to work me out and I guess everything worked out well.

On his experience on special teams…

I did a lot of special teams. I love special teams.  Wherever they want me to come and contribute, I’ll be ready.  I got a lot of preparation in college, so I’m ready.

On his hometown of Brandon, MS…

It’s the bottom of the map. It’s the Deep South. Nothing but good hospitality and good eating.  I want you all to come down and visit.
