Bart Scott Unlikely to Play

One of the big questions of the second half will be what the linebacker makeup looks like for this team. Bart Scott has been hobbled by a toe injury and he might not be able to play this weekend again, but according to Jane McManus, Scott will travel with the team.

Bart Scott will travel to Seattle, but he is not sure whether he will be cleared to play with the turf toe that ended his streak of 119 consecutive games played.

Scott would prefer to play, but the Jets trainers want to see how much his toe swells after two straight days of practicing in a limited capacity. He will be on site either way.

Playing a tough customer like Marshawn Lynch and Scott’s unlikelihood activation is all the more reason why the Jets activated Ricky Sapp. They’re going to need as many linebackers as possible this weekend.

Scott’s been a big part of this defense since Rex Ryan came aboard, but with his contract situation this year, the Jets were going to play him as much as it made sense to, since they were paying him one way or another. Scott has had trouble keeping up on the field at points this year. Getting off his blocks, attacking the line of scrimmage and stuffing plays haven’t come with their normal regularity that we saw in his first two years. So his injury provides the team a reason to rest him for other players. At it’s most ruthless, the cost of replacing him on the field isn’t as painful as it would have been two years ago. I do think that Scott will return to the field for the Jets at points this season, but there’s less and less reason for him to play through his injuries based on some of his performances that we were seeing while he was on it.
