Bills Re-Sign QB Tavaris Jackson

Scratch a name off the list for the Jets as possible low-cost competition at the quarterback spot.

According to reports, the Bills have re-signed backup QB Tavaris Jackson according to their website prior to his hitting free agency.

On Friday the Bills re-signed quarterback Tarvaris Jackson, and according to new head coach Doug Marrone the veteran signal caller will have a much better opportunity to see playing time for Buffalo in 2013.

“I spoke with Ryan (Fitzpatrick) and Tarvaris (Jackson) and told them we will have an open competition at the quarterback position – similar to what we will do at all positions on our team heading into our offseason work,” said Marrone. “I believe that our players will embrace this challenge. We are looking forward to working with our players as we prepare for the 2013 season.”

Jackson was a name that had some connection with new GM John Idzik.  According to a tweet a few weeks ago from Adam Schefter, Idzik was said to be a fan of Jackson and Schefter presumed that a reunion might be possible in New York.  Jackson is considered a strong athlete, but his inability to stay consistent with his technique leads to accuracy issues and that has kept him from becoming a legitimate full-time starter in the NFL.  Assurances that he’d get to compete in Buffalo must have been enough for Jackson to stick around with the new coaching staff.
