The Jets are doing their best to retain free agent Mike DeVito, according to Rich Cimini on ESPN NY.
… the Jets are trying to re-sign DT Mike DeVito before he hits the open market Tuesday, according to sources.
Of all the Jets’ unrestricted free agents, DeVito probably is the best bet to stick around, although he’s drawing interest from a handful of teams.
DeVito is an extremely versatile player across the defensive front for Rex Ryan’s defense and while he’s not the run stuffing nose tackle that Sione is, he was in better health than Pouha was last season at age 34 and so far Kenrick Ellis has had two years with the Jets but has yet to emerge as a player who is good enough to start as a replacement to Pouha. We would like to see DeVito back with the Jets in 2013, but if there are as many teams interested in him as is being reported, my guess is that the Jets won’t be the highest bidder for his services and therefore the decision will be DeVito’s to make on whether to stay or go.
