According to NFL.com, Jets GM John Idzik used the opportunity of the Jets bye week to attend one of college football’s biggest matchups of the week between Oregon and Stanford.
At least six general managers are in attendance for the highly anticipated Pac-12 showdown. San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke, Cleveland Browns general manager Michael Lombardi, Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie, New York Jets general manager John Idzik, Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim, Jacksonville Jaguars general manager David Caldwell, Philadelphia Eagles vice president of player personnel Tom Gamble and Miami Dolphins director of scouting Chris Grier are among the high-profile evaluators at the game.
Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.comThe Jets might have almost a half season remaining, but the best work in scouting needs to be done now. Idzik went to the LSU-Mississippi State game back in early October, so it’s notable that Idzik attended, but this isn’t his first game this season.
There are a number of interesting future NFL prospects who played in this Oregon-Stanford game, so it’s no surprise that Idzik would want to see some of the players up close. Marcus Mariota is the big name, but players like Shayne Skov, Tyler Montgomery and Ty Murphy from Stanford might be on the GM’s radar while De’Anthony Thomas and Ifo Ekpre-Olomu might be players from Oregon who might warrant more information should they declare early.
