Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.comCORTLAND, N.Y. – It’s not often that Santonio Holmes addresses the media as he recovers from his Lisfranc injury last year, so when he does everyone tends to pay close attention. Today Holmes was asked about how his rehabilitation is progressing and when he expects to come off the PUP list and rejoin the team on the practice field any time soon.
“I don’t know,” Holmes told a throng of reporters after the practice today. “Whenever the doctors clear me to go out and perform will be the day that I go out and show up for practice.”
Holmes worked on the stationary bike and at times simultaneously caught passes. During the practice period, Holmes stood off the to side with players and coaches and cheered on teammates. Asked if he’s frustrated by the situation, Holmes responded stoically. “It’s not frustrating at all. I have to deal with what I have to do deal with, which is the injury I suffered last year. I had to go through two surgeries. Now I’m recovering. That’s all I can do and go through the process.”
Holmes refused to put a timeline on his recovery, other than to say he has to “take it one day at a time.”
Most concerning, when he was asked whether or not he could return at all for the 2013 season, Holmes couldn’t say. “I can’t answer that question right now,” Holmes answered. “It’s the first day of training camp. How are you going to answer that question? They don’t know… I had two surgeries. All I can do is rehab right now.”
