Jets GM Coming Into the Crosshairs?

Here’s some comments from a few columnists from Monday about Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum.

Tara Sullivan – The Record

This is not what general manager Mike Tannenbaum promised was coming when he made the swap with Denver to bring Tebow to New York. He sold us a football move and not a publicity one, but so far, the football has fallen flat.

“When you get an unexpected opportunity to add a player like Tim, you’ve got to take advantage of it,” Tannenbaum said after the trade, on a late-night conference call with reporters. “What we’ve become is a more diverse, dynamic offense.”

Halfway through the season, we have yet to see any on-field evidence of Tannenbaum’s claim.

This has to be it for Tannenbaum, right?

He can’t survive another season like this, not with the Jets showing no signs that 3-5 will become anything but 6-10 in a couple months. The GM might have built a team that reached back-to-back AFC title games in 2009 and 2010, but he’s also responsible for the paper thin roster now.

They are floundering, their talent base looks thin and owner Woody Johnson loves coach Rex Ryan. If anyone has to be the fall guy, it could be Tannenbaum.
