Rex has been talking about it all offseason … so it is time for him to show why he’s been doing so all offseason.  English writer and theologian C.H. Spurgeon had a great quote he would often use that “the best way to defend a caged lion – is to let it out of its cage.”  Consider Sunday the Jets figurative opening of that very cage.

Wildcat might be an oversimplification of what the Jets will run.  I didn’t get to attend any of the Wildcat practices, so don’t know what their plans are but, I’ll guess we will see the Single Wing / Wildcat as we know it, but I also expect the Jets to run some Spread Option plays mixed in against the Bills based on Tim Tebow’s familiarity and strength from that package.  We’ll see what the Jets actually run, but since it could be a hybrid with magical properties, calling it “THE LIGER” might end up being more apropos.

The Wildcat became essentially extinct in Miami because one of the most feared parts is when teams connect on a downfield pass out of the formation.  Without the right personnel to do so, the Wildcat had a tough time convincing teams to not load the box in recent years in Miami and so it became irrelevant.  With the Steelers coming up in Week Two, the Jets might hold some of their necromancy in reserve, but I wouldn’t expect them to stop using the formation against a team that had it’s postseason hopes dashed on a play where they didn’t respect the pass and got burned for it.
