More to Come from LaRon Landry

While fans haven’t had much of a chance to see LaRon Landry so far this offseason, the former Redskin came to play Saturday night and impressed some fans in his first appearance at his new home stadium.  According to Landry, he’s just getting started when asked about his tone-setting hit of Victor Cruz across the middle.

“[Fans] can expect better hits,” Landry told the New York Post. “The ball didn’t come out, I didn’t get an interception, and he still caught the ball. It brought them closer to making a field goal when I could have stopped that drive. But I will fly around, and I will make plays.”

When the Jets signed Landry back in the spring it was hard to know just how healthy and ready for the season he’d be.  So guessing his ability to produce came with real volatility.  Now that we’ve seen some of how he looks and plays physically in this defense, it looks like it could be a great move for the Jets this season assuming he stays healthy.  Rex was pleased with what he saw from his new safety saying after the game that “he was dialing in on our defense. He’s starting to pick it up. You’re not worried about him mentally handling it. … He is an impact player.”

After the little we saw of him Saturday night, we’d agree.  Landry’s physical skills are impressive but if he knows where he needs to be in the defense then this is all the better.  Hopefully next week we’ll get to see Landry some more in the deep safety role … I’d like to get a better sense of how he looks with the corners in deep coverage even better.
