Mike Garafolo writes for FoxSports that while JaMarcus Russell has had some extremely light interest from NFL teams since he’s tried to make a comeback earlier this year, he explains why Russell hasn’t had much interest around the league, despite teams like the Bills and the Jets needing some quarterback help.
… [Russell's] comeback has hit a few bumps, multiple sources told FOX Sports.
Russell hit his target weight after months of training and eating right, but he has had trouble keeping it down since dropping a total of 51 pounds. Russell has always been a big body and often eclipsed 300 pounds, so this will be a constant battle for him.
In addition, Russell has also had issues with one of his knees. Russell has experienced swelling in the joint, and that has limited his ability to work out at full strength. It’s surely also a factor in the aforementioned weight gain.
Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.comYou have to credit Russell with trying to turn his life around. While we doubt the Jets would ever show much interest, it is good to hear Garafalo explain the reasons why teams (like the Jets) are wary.
The scrutiny that would come with signing JaMarcus Russell for the Jets would never outweigh (haha) the production Russell could offer the team. Even if Russell never saw a snap with the Jets, signing him would be a massive headache and only feed into the public perceptions that this team genuinely is trying to shake.
