Antonio Allen likely to start at CB

Antonio Allen will likely start at cornerback when the Jets take on the Bengals on Saturday.

“What the heck, let’s put him out there,” head coach Rex Ryan said.

Allen, a safety, filled in at cornerback due to multiple injuries at the position.

He had two interceptions on Monday.

  • Milliner update. He already is spending time out of his walking boot. That he's able to do that three days after the injury is an encouraging sign, indicating it probably isn't a high-ankle sprain, according to medical experts. Milliner is expected to miss three to four weeks.

I think Antonio Allen can probably help out playing some corner,  but it's a little unrealistic to think he can transition into a starter.

He would have trouble with great route runners,  but I could see him covering bigger guys,  whether TE or WR all over the field from time to time that aren't as quick or shifty.

Im excited to see how all this plays out on Saturday. Well Im just excited for football in general but especially a couple position battles. Unfortunately Im going camping and will miss it.

I told Ya guys two years ago I liked Allen, didn't I Bent??

He's NOT going to be sinking no ship......In fact, he's going to be handing out life preservers !!!

I just have a feeling Allen's gonna be a hit at corner. Completely changes the way our secondary looks if he pans out.

In a vacuum in which everyone is healthy:

CB1 Milliner

2 Allen

3 Wilson

4 Patterson

S Pryor

S Landry

Rex will put a good defense on the field. He always does.

My vacume cleaner was broke so I put a Dallas cowboy sticker on it and its started sucking again however the maid ask me about the other vacume the spare vacume that one is broke also . so I told her no problem and I got on the phone and called Tony Romo and told him the playoffs start today and you know what the other spare vacume cleaner started  sucking also.

On a serious note, Does anyone know if the ACL tear on McDougal is it the same type of ACL that takes players a long time to recover? Obviously he's out for the year but is it the same type of ACL that Revis suffered? I hope him being young and all helps his situation.

Awwwh , sniff sniff . The jets didn't sign the guy I like now their COS are injured. Jets such and I'm going to the ref and blue.

See you on your way out.

@levi Would you rather him sit out against the Raiders to make sure he's 100% healthy for that run of QB's that comes right after? Or do you think the 1st game is too important and the team needs to get a win under its belt before that same run of great QB's?

@J. Smooth

He had a rough first day while Lankster really shined today.

I'd probably put my money on Lankster getting more reps at CB throughout the season.

@J. Smooth  This actually a pretty interesting line up. The Jets can run the big nickle as a base defense for their secondary and allow Allen to play outside, or move him into the box on obvious running downs or blitzes. They could also use this to disguise having Pryor in the box.  This depends if Kyle can channel 2012 and play solid coverage along the sideline when the time is called. I can see Rex experimenting with a new kind of defense, especially with that front 7 (6 in this case) that he has.

@bob that's gold, bob. Pure gold

@Pablo Bruno To be honest, I think all ACL tears take a long time to recover.  Revis' fast comeback was largely because he's such a dedicated athlete.

@Brendan  Depends on his progress. If its isnt a high sprain he might be fine in a couple weeks.

Jon Jones is out btw. Hurt his ankle.

@Tequila Joe @Hanknaples Too soon? I actually tried to erase this one but my edit time ran out. I feel dirty...

@Bent So you'd rather play him and risk having a Coples-like situation where he's there, but not really himself? It's a tough call, but I'd probably want him playing, too. I just worry because ankle sprains can have a high reinjury rate if you're not fully recovered and it could turn into an injury he deals with all season (worst case, obviously).

@levi He's scared!

And yeah, I saw that. Now they moved that back a few PPV's, but at least they'll still get to fight.

Tell me that girl did NOT just walk up to that HUGE dude and try to fight him???

Tell me she didn't just try to do that ?? She must've been drunk and drugged out !!!

@Brendan @Bent Depends how he is.  If he's limited then I'd imagine he wouldn't be an upgrade anyway, but if he's close to 100% by then, resting him because "it's only the Raiders" could come back to bite them.

@Brendan @Bent

I think even if he can go on week 1 he will be on a pitch count.  And pulled completely if we start pulling away with the game.

levi
levi

@Brendan  He's injury prone. Bad genetics.

Gus is saying he wants the fight in January because his was postponed due to injury in the first place.

Brendan
Brendan

@Bent I'd only rest him if he was considerably less than 100%. This team, with this defensive front, should beat the Raiders at home, but they're not the same team they played last year. And if the defense plays like it did last year, the team could very well lose.

Brendan
Brendan

@levi And I don't blame him, but now Cormier has kind of made it almost impossible for those two not to fight with the brawl and trash talk. To be honest, I'm not sure who I'd rather see Jones fight first. Gus had one of the best fights ever with him, but Cormier clearly hates the guy, so I feel he might have an extra level to his game.

@Brendan @Bent The thing about the Raiders is that they always have a pretty crappy roster, but that doesn't hurt them until you get into the season and they start losing a few guys and their lack of depth is exposed.

Facing them in week one when everyone is healthy and they can take extra time to prepare for our blitz packages should mean they give us a competitive game.

levi

@Bent  I dont think there will be a lot of blitzing until the secondary is more comfortable. But, its Rex so who knows...
