Bears QB Josh McCown signs in Tampa Bay

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have announced that they have signed veteran QB Josh McCown to a two-year deal reports Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times.

So far three names at the quarterback have been tied to the Jets.  McCown has just signed with Tampa Bay.  The Jets and Matt Schaub are mutually uninterested.  There was a reported “roadblock” between Mike Vick and the Jets.

Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.com

McCown wasn’t my favorite option among the backup quarterbacks available and I do think that his 2013 season statistics has to be considered an aberration.

Are we staring down a Matt Simms and David Garrard backup scenario again in 2014? What about Mark Sanchez?  The more veterans sign elsewhere the more likely the possibility of a restructured Sanchez seems.

Take heart, there will be another wave of QB releases that could come after the NFL draft.  It might not be as good a group, but there might be some backups yet to hit the market for the Jets to pick through.

Was he so expensive that idzik let him pass.  He can beat geno in a qb competition.  He should've stayed the bears starter last year after he basically took over positively for cutler.  this is disconcerting.

i don't mind losing scrubs/averages like howard, cromartie, holmes, sanchez(hopefully) but at least fill one or two of those positions.  can't draft replacements for all of them especially with such dire needs at WR, OL, and now CB again.

that's the biggest problem right there.  with rex here a push for another CB might lead us to draft one in the 1st round again and pick up some lesser WR/OL talent in the 2nd.

OMG, this sucks.  Tate gone, McCown gone, Verner gone.  meh.

Would've preferred him to Vick.

Thank GOD for Tampa!  First they take Greedvis off our hands (get us The Defensive Rookie of the Year in return)  now they absorb a mediocrity like McCown!  Becoming my favorite NFC team

If Mark is on the roster past 4:00 PM today, does he get any bonus or guaranteed money?

@gt73  Yes. As real estate agents like to say, the right house at the wrong price >> the wrong house at the right price.

I'm pretty sure he signed a contract extension not long ago

@Nep Oznat

Did our rookie QB get better or worse as his rookie season concluded?

@Brian Lomasky

He is but many think he will be cut so I threw him in the mix.  It is not hard to find a decent back up QB.  We should be fine.

@harold  As for Raiders having a good defense, after their bye they gave up 18, 49, 24, 23, 23, 31, 37, 56, 26 and 34 points.

As for Cleveland: 41, 27, 32, 27, 38, 24, and 20.

So much for these declarations from you....maybe an eye checkup is in order

@harold  Miami lost 19-0 to the Bills in Week 16 before we beat them.

Carolina was coming off a game vs.New Orleans and looking forward to their next game, New Orleans!  Fyi - After the game Geno apologized to Rex for playing so poorly.

I sense wishful thinking among Jets fans re. Geno.  But as the Reverend Jesse Jackson always says: Keep Hope Alive!

What does the eye test mean if you can't seee clearly?  When you are a rookie getting better is what matters.

He played the Dolphins on the road where if they win the game they are in the playoffs!

You said they mailed it in:  False

Cleveland one of the better pass defenses in the NFL

Oakland Raiders were a decent defense this year against the pass as well.

Against Carlonia another solid game against the #1 Defense in the NFL at the time on the road.

Lastly team average over 24 points per game.

Your eyes are a little tainted.

@harold  If you are going to hang your hat on the "improvement" on horrible season long play against Miami, who had mailed it in by the last game, and world beaters like Cleveland and Oakland Raiders, go right ahead!

To me he doesn't pass the eye test of a franchise QB and I refuse to believe he'll even be average until I see it with my own eyes.
