Bryan Thomas Accused of Assaulting Wife

Disappointing news today as Bryan Thomas has been accused of assaulting his wife and possessing painkillers and marijuana. The incident took place on October 31, 2012 according to the Daily Record.

Thomas, 33, was charged Oct. 31 in Randolph with aggravated assault upon his wife at their home. The linebacker — described as 6 feet, 4 inches and 265 pounds on the NFL roster — allegedly pushed his wife with a kitchen chair, punched her in the stomach, and grabbed her by the neck, causing pain and marks on her body, according to criminal complaints.

Thomas, who posted $2,500 bail after his arrest, also was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon (the kitchen chair), possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana, and possession of 20 tablets of suspected hydrocodone.

Thomas is set to appear in court on February 5 and has applied for admission into an pre-trial intervention program. If he completes the program successfully in addition to probation and other sanctions, Thomas will not have a criminal record. Unfortunately this does not undo the physical and emotional damage done to all of those involved. While we’re not privy to all the details of the case, it’s extremely disappointing that Thomas, a veteran and leader on the field, would make such decisions. He has been battling injuries the past two seasons and as the Jets look to get younger at the linebacker position, Thomas will likely be cut in March. Sadly, this will be a very disconcerting end to what was a relatively successful career with the Jets.
