Adam Schefter shares some Jets-related intel on defensive end Jared Allen, who just signed with the Bears on a four-year, $32m deal according to multiple reports:
Bent, TheJetsBlog.comIt may not seem that noteworthy for this to leak out after Allen is off the market, but it does provide some interesting insight into the Jets’ plans for potentially spending their remaining cap space and which needs they might be targeting. There were also some recent reports that Rex Ryan wanted the Jets to target DeMarcus Ware while he was on the market.
Of course, we should perhaps take this report with a pinch of salt because it’s also possible the Jets might leak a report such as this to hide their true intentions.
Obviously it isn’t going to happen now, but if the Jets had signed Allen, I would assume that he and Quinton Coples would have been the two defensive ends in the Jets pass rush packages and that Allen and Coples would have split the reps on non-passing downs. Allen wouldn’t really be ideally suited to Calvin Pace’s strongside linebacker role.
