Buzz: Eric Decker to meet with Jets

Rumor has it that Eric Decker was spotted on a flight from Denver to New Jersey late Tuesday night (Mehta, March 12). He is reportedly in town to meet with the Jets in Florham Park (Jones, March 12).

In 62 games with the Broncos, Decker has 3,070 yards receiving with 33 touchdown receptions, including 13 and 11 over the last two years.

Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.com

Other than Jairus Byrd, Eric Decker was the single most talked about free agent over the last few weeks. Decker’s name was quiet over the weekend, but don’t take that as a sign that he isn’t about to get paid. Decker could easily approach $10 million average annual value (AAV) for whatever deal he winds up signing. While we’re sure Decker would like to be back in Denver with Peyton Manning, with a musician/actress wife there’s going to be a draw that in the NFL a city like New York could offer his family.

The question for many is will Decker be worth the price tag? My response to that question is another one: Is the deal structured in such a way that the Jets can get out in the middle without too much pain?

Decker has padded his numbers with Peyton Manning over the last two years in an extremely talent heavy offense, but he was also productive prior to Manning. If the Jets sign Decker, I still think the Jets would be wise to draft a talented receiver early to go with Kerley and Nelson — that to me would round out a promising group over the next three years.

Well, by my count approximately 46 Free gents have signed on with new teams for 2014.

Interesting tidbit, Vlad Ducasse does not show up on Rotoworlds' free agent tracking list!

McGown a 2-year deal with TB....who seem to be the un-Jets re FA activity so far.   With Schaub also out of Jet picture, looks more and more like Vick will take the Turnpike North.

So now jets fans we not gonna win the AFC..... So let's build our team for the next 2,3 years. It takes time to build a good team.... Let's be honest... We had the worse Gm.... 2 much whining arguing back and forth.. We gotta ride with jet decisions if we call ourselves jets fans....

I wonder what the over/under is on when the Jets actually sign someone who wasn't on their team last season?

Where is jaygo when you need him?

@Bent Can teams talk to Revis even though he hasn't be released yet?

This isn't really that complicated, we lost for two reasons last year. 1- we couldn't complete passes. Personally I still think that's as much Geno's fault as anyone else's. 2- we couldn't cover in the secondary. none of them were good, Cro was terrible, Milliner was terrible.
I chuckle when I hear  the naive idea that because we won a few games at the end of the season or because Geno and milliner didn't suck that bad that we shouldn't worry about it and we should judge those four games in a vacuum.

AFAIC our two biggest concerns are QB and CB. WR is as well, but I think WR are easier to find, especially in the draft.

Jets fans are insufferable.

Edit: Like the bozo I am I left out the first tweet:

Patrick Daugherty @RotoPat  1h

New York media moving the goalposts on the Jets, who made amazing Revis trade last year. Can't act like it's crisis if he doesn't come back.

Patrick Daugherty @RotoPat  2m

Bucs gave up first-rounder for rehabbing all-world press corner they forced to play zone and are giving up on him one year later.

Patrick Daugherty @RotoPat  1m

In other words, worst trade ever.

Pick the Bucs gave up for Darrelle Revis was used to draft the Defensive Rookie of the Year.

@a57se  Did you read the B/R Guards top 70? Vlad was ranked in the 50s which makes him a starting Guard by their estimation....Winters didn't make the top 70.

No surprise re Vlad...he didn't show up on the O-line when he played, either.

Well the Pats have the best GM in the game, they can do anything they want....:)

@Kory Cosenza  They have $14 million in space.

But they could cut Wilfork and open up $8 million.

Milliner was terrible but for the last five games he looked like the best cb in the nfl

Brendan

@Matthew Lafflin  I chuckle when I hear the naive idea that a rookie coming from Nick Saban's system at CB took longer than normal to adjust to an NFL scheme (which has a history to speak to it) and then when it "clicked" he had nearly 30 targets in two weeks against Josh Gordon and Mike Wallace and did the pee-pee dance all over their silly faces.

I get being cautious about Milliner, it's too soon to say he's 100% legit. But Josh Gordon was making a habit of absolutely embarrassing legit CB's. He made Aqib Talib look like a 60 year old man, and he just got $26 million guaranteed.

Milliner may flame out, but he showed in the final four weeks what type of player he is.

@Brendan  Bill Polian yesterday called it the worst trade in the history of the NFL (if Revis is released).

Love this. Def not a crisis if we dont bring him back ....but bringing him back now that we have money (& not for $16 millie) would make the trade & Idzik look that much smarter.

1 year rental for Def ROY while we fixed the cap & then get our boy back...UGH (Rick Ross grunt)

@Brendan  If Milliner turns into a good corner, it will be among the greatest(or worst for the other team) trades in NFL history.  Redskins got 7 picks for Ricky Williams. Skins also got 6 picks for RG3.  Will be ranked in that league.  Not bad for a rooky GM!!

@DrJonathanReefer @Kyle Ely

Don't think Elway cares.   They've got a small window w/Peyton and have to go 'all-in' while he's there.    No need to tweak the prolific O, so they're filling the holes on D.   Given their moves, they're going to be tough to dislodge atop the AFC.   This might heighten the need for NE to make a play for Revis.

@Brendan  I don't doubt that you might be right, keyword "might". I don't know, and neither do any of you. The season as a whole was a let down. These guys are pro's and I believe in looking at the season as a whole as much as possible. But even if he has come around, that doesn't alleviate our need for a corner.

My point was lost in my Milliner bashing, but that wasn't my intent. My intent was to suggest that we shouldn't consider these two areas solved is all.

Milliner will be legit he has all the tools you look for in a cb size and speed. He shut it down during those last four games.

Bytor

It will go down a epic if we sign him back. F offense, I want Ware and Revis now. How the heck will anyone score on us?

Maybe this is some grand conspiracy by Bent to have all our games end up 9-6 us! Bently, do you have a hand in this?

@williamg1 @ww85 @jroc  No, media spin will be: "Jets lucky to have chance to correct worst mistake a GM made last year, letting Revis get away..." count on it.

williamg1

@ww85 @jroc  Oh you are sooo naive.

The Jets will never get proper credit for it. Instead, the media will focus on blaming the Bucs.

@jroc But what if it were true? Would be pure genius.

jroc

@Brendan @jroc  If Revis comes back I feel like there is going to be so much media speculation that this was the "plan" all along. Which would be absurd...

Brendan

@jroc It's illegal, but that didn't stop them from talking to Tampa last year and having a deal in place pre-trade.
