Due to the short week, the injury report has already come out for the Jets-Pats game this Thursday night. Rob Gronkowski has been participating in practices, but the Boston Herald is reporting that Gronk is not expected to play New England’s home opener against the Jets.
Gronkowski is “unlikely” to play in the Patriots’ home opener on Thursday against the New York Jets, a source told the Herald. However, the All-Pro hasn’t yet been ruled out, which is a sign of progress from last week, when the Pats began their preparations for the Buffalo Bills knowing Gronkowski wouldn’t be available.
Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.comYou always want to beat a team with their best players on the field, but Gronkowski’s presence in the Jets-Pats game would make things that much more difficult for New York. Gronkowski is a massive target for Tom Brady and has been a large part of the Patriots offense, totaling 10 or more touchdowns in each of his first three seasons with his team.
It is never easy going against Tom Brady, but removing Gronk from the gameplan should streamline the gameplan for the Jets and remove a hot read for Tom Brady against a surging Jets defensive front.
