Chris Johnson leaves Jets without a deal

Chris Johnson left the Jets facility on Tuesday without a deal, he told reporters at the Knicks/Nets game in Brooklyn.

“I’m just taking it one day at a time, taking my time, and whatever decision I make, it will be the best decision,” Johnson said (Cimini, April 16).

Johnson was released by the Titans two weeks ago. The Jets were the first team he has visited.

I've move on. I don't know if anyone on the blog talked about Jeremy Gallon. But if his there in 4th( with the last pick we have) or 5th. I would not mind if we draft him.

Sidney Rice might be coming in for a visit with the Jets

@Scott Berger-Felder  I like him a lot too, but he's similar to Decker. I think we need a burner to open the middle & make life easier for Deck & JK.

@mr97

He may very well end up undrafted....

@bklyndude

That is a guy who fits the stopgap, low risk, high reward category.

@Scott Berger-Felder  "we played agains BS QB's who missed WR that had Dee beat badly  a few times during that stretch"

That would be factored into his grades - he still had outstanding grades, thereby suggesting either it didn't happen as much as you thought or he made so many positive plays that his few mistakes were rendered irrelevant.

@Scott Berger-Felder  I like dee and I think he'll be good but you're spot on about the BS QB's. Let's see him shutdown a Josh Gordon type when someone like Peyton Manning or Tom Brady is throwing the ball.

@Scott Berger-Felder  Yea, I guess the entire NFL blew that when they named him Defensive Rookie of the Month for December.

@Scott Berger-Felder

He did break up a lot of passes and looked significantly better then he did early in the season......Milliner has the talent to be very good in this league.

@DrJonathanReefer @bklyndude

Oh yeah but you would have a veteran who could play if your rookie needs some seasoning instead of forcing him into the line-up ready or not. If the rookie IS ready, then you can cut Rice if you don't want to carry him all season....

@Scott Berger-Felder I used to think that as well until I saw a lot of tape on Cooks(especially) but also OBJ. They are both burners & beat out much bigger CBs for balls, run great routes & draw a high safety.  Perfect for Deck & JK

@Scott Berger-Felder I went to PSU and have watched Robinson play every game of his career. I'm a big fan but I would not rank him higher than Cooks/OBJ. If he's available in the 2nd and the Jets have not gone WR yet, I would be ECSTATIC to get him.

Impressive.

The Jets aren't going to give Stephen Hill forever,  but they are going to give him another season. Might as well hope he turns in a big season.

@bklyndude  Let me put it to you this way. I have a friend and if he could catch he would be playing in the NFL right now. I mean this guy is the most athletic guy I've ever seen. He looks like the statute of David, but you know what he can't catch. I mean he's horrible and for that reason every turkey bowl he's picked close to last. That is Stephen Hill!

Making him a questionable pick in the second round.

But the Jets knew Hill needed time to develop.  He has shown some ability after a terrible first year with drops. Unfortunately,  last year ended with injuries so we didn't get a chance to see him with the better Geno Smith at the end of the season.

@bklyndude  Jeffery was a very productive college player. I think Hill caught 49 balls his entire tenure at GT.

@Tequila Joe @bklyndude @DrJonathanReefer

Who said that ?

Every player drafted will be given a chance to prove himself.  Alson Jeffery show'd nothing his first year and then bang,  it came together in his second year.   Maybe Hill won't achieve that level of success and maybe he will be a bust,  but he's only 22 right now.   That alone deserves some patience.

@Tequila Joe @bklyndude @DrJonathanReefer

Well if the Jets agreed with you,  they would not have drafted him.   And if Idzik agreed,  they would probably have cut him.   My guess is they are going to give him another camp to show he belongs or not.

@bklyndude @DrJonathanReefer I'll take Rice in a heartbeat, if he's recovered he's still got 4 years at a high level, and also, you cannot EVER have enough Gamecocks on your team!

Wilkershakes

@WW85 @Wilkershakes  I'm not on the Rice bandwagon.  I think he's done.  But I'm also not on the Hill one either.  I want him to succeed, but he just hasn't shown enough.  He doesn't catch with his hands or go up high for the ball.  If he hasn't improved in that area by the end of camp, my prediction doesn't look as good.  I'm just optimistic.

WW85
WW85

@Wilkershakes I would love it if a new Hill shows up. But there will be a lot of talented WRs looking for work when camps roll around this year.  I think Rice is just the tip of the storm of potential WRS who will become available.

Wilkershakes
Wilkershakes

@WW85 @Wilkershakes  If they do draft 2 WR's early, then yes I'd agree with you.  He would be looking squarely at a target on his back.  I just don't think they do that.  Let's say 80% sure.

WW85
WW85

@Wilkershakes Disagree there. I'm 50-50 Hill makes the team. If we draft 2 WRs in the first 4 rounds, I'd say Hill will be fighting for survival.

Brendan
Brendan

@Wilkershakes Dunno about that. This is the put-up-or-shut-up season for him and they might not give him a long leash.

WW85
WW85

@a57se @Brendan  If we carry 6 WRs: Rooky, Deck, JK, Nelson are locks.   IF Ford & Hill are expendable, then there's basically 2 spots open for competition I guess?

a57se

@Brendan @a57se

I don't have a problem with it but we only have so many WR slots........that is also what I would have preferred to signing Decker.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se I'm not sure when you got on board with signing a veteran #2 WR so the rookie isn't rushed into a starting role, but welcome to the team.

@Tequila Joe @boomer  I don't think you needed to be Nostradamus to know that when Woody was released/retired and Hunter was his replacement there was going to be a big drop off.  I guess we will just agree to disagree that the Jets secondary is going to be as bad as you think.

It would be kind of boring around here if we all agreed on everything.

Tequila Joe
Tequila Joe

@boomer @Tequila Joe  I don't need the press to tell me this secondary is subpar. A couple years ago when the Jets invested in Hunter and let go of Woody. I told everyone that our O-Line is going to stink! Everyone told me I was crazy...So let me say it now. If we don't find a legit number 2 corner and a better safety ( hopefully calvin pryor or jimmie ward) this secondary is going to stink! BELIEVE IT! Last years 22nd pass defense is going to seem like a walk in the park.

boomer

@Tequila Joe  Eh, I'm never comfortable with any position.  I just don't think CB is as big a need as some.

It seems things like "ZOMG the Jets have a huge problem at CB" get started in the press and then get repeated over and over as if it was written in stone.

Tequila Joe
Tequila Joe

@boomer @Tequila Joe @Scott Berger-Felder  touche...I really like Dee but he still has lots of improving to do. That's my point. We can't get comfortable with this secondary just because we have Dee.

Brendan
Brendan

@Scott Berger-Felder I recall that happening once, and it only looked that way because after Dee rode Gordon off his route he released him once the ball was clearly overthrown, where Gordon took off creating that gap we saw. Maybe I'm off, though. I think Bent might have a better idea than either of us anyway.
