Coaching staff update: Jets make two minor moves

Two familiar names return to the Jets in 2014, according to Eric Allen from the Jets official site, although perhaps not quite in the roles to which we’d become accustomed…

have you people not noticed the large number of long gainers that occurred after Smith left? he was a big part of the two defenses that made it to the AFC champ games.

smith is going to teach how to run 5 yards behind the player you're covering....God why is that scrub back with the team?

Tony Sparano jr. thought I'd never hear Sparano's name associated with the Jets again, Eric Smith? I'd take Jim Leonhard as a coach for the secondary over him if he where not still playing

A seasonal intern? He's seriously coming back as a part time intern? Will Eric Smith be serving me beer in September?

Smith was a guy who used his brains to make up for lack for natural talent. He still wasn't so good, but he was better than many here are making him out to be by focusing on that one missed tackle and a couple of penalties. He had some productive play for us in a mostly limited role and has the kind of smarts that could translate very well into coaching.

Eric Smith was really good at spearing people in the face. Not good at much else. As long as he's not playing for us.

@NYCPEinGermany  Nah dude, Smitty was the suckiest suck that ever sucked and if you say otherwise you're a big stupid green-eyed doofus!

@Disgruntled Jets Fan  Why? Tony did such a phenomenal job running that tremendous offense.

Dude is prolly gonna be grabbing coffee for all the offensive coaches.

@Disgruntled Jets Fan Ha! You and me both. We can only hope he's NOT a chip off the old block.

A skosh off topic: It's ironic that an organization that has a history of management churn often fails to cut bait with players associated with that failure.

@jaygo

That her bags are packed and she is ready to go?

@jaygo

That she doesn't know how to take a picture?

Or, is she actually so ahead of her time that we can't possibly fathom the avant garde style with which she takes pictures of herself in airports? Perhaps it's a commentary on the many faceless travelers that pass through airports each day.

Or, it's the first thing I said.

@a57se My guess: Jimmy will follow Pettine from Buffalo to Cleveland.

I don't even understand the smith signing.

@levi  Sounds like he's working his way up the ladder. Rex kept him on last year and he must have done well to get this promotion. Maybe he just follows Marty around and wipes up his spittle after chews someone out for screwing up.

The only time Eric Smith looked "fast" was on a blitz but besides that yeah, completely useless & a total liability in a sub package.

@Brendan @NYCPEinGermany

Damn. How could I forget that? He was almost as bad as Kyle Wilson/Kerry Rhodes/Calvin Pace (pre 2013)

Almost as lousy as Dewayne Robertson!

@j3tsfan29  Smith is a very sharp guy and although he lacked the physical tools his knowledge made up for a lot of that as a player. If he can translate that to coaching/teaching he might have a bright future. He was also a very good special teams player so he could help out there. Im not sure how involved a "seasonal intern" would be though.

@j3tsfan29  What's not to understand? They're grooming him to be a coach in the future.

@Brendan Haha my bad. I thought it was Sr. I didnt want that guy back here at all.

@j3tsfan29  is that all you have? Because that's the only thing you can seem to say "he missed Tebow and spears people in the face." What does that have to do with him having the tools to coach?

@j3tsfan29  Your well  thought out and highly educated response has changed my mind on the matter. Well done Sir. You may have a future in politics.

j3tsfan29

Yea he can teach players how to miss Tim tebow and let him beat you in the open field, how to spear people. Can't wait to see his knowledge and know how translate to the feild!!

j3tsfan29
j3tsfan29

The fact he wasn't any good as a player, don't think he has much to offer in coaching. If he can't tackle Tim tebow, spears people and sucks at coverage but please tell me more about how good of a coach he will be!!
