Jeané Coakley, SNY Jets Reporter:
The Jets drafted defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. Rex Ryan has said that this rookie can do almost anything you ask a D-lineman to do. No matter what he is doing, Richardson is mostly likely smiling. He’s a guy who likes to have a good time. Richardson joins me today in Coakley’s Corner…
Jeane Coakley: What’s the National Football League been like so far?
Sheldon Richardson: It’s been great. I’m having a blast. Just loving and living life right now. To be able to see the smiles on my folks’ face, talking to them on the phone, I’ve just been enjoying it.
Coakley: When you ran out of the tunnel at MetLife Stadium, what was going through your head?
Richardson: ‘I could get use to this!’ That is the only thing I said to myself, walking through the smoke with Mo, Q, and Damon. It was just… a chill went down my back. It was a great feeling having my name called.
Coakley: What’s it been like working with Rex Ryan and this defense?
Richardson: It’s been fun. It’s been intense. He expects the same thing from the first day of practice as he does today. It has just been great. Intense practices, just executing and getting better every day.
Ten questions to get to know Richardson…
First car you drove?
Richardson: 1996 Grand Cherokee.
Richardson: Pizza and ice cream.
Richardson: Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Cookie Crisp.
Richardson: Thanksgiving. I have a lot to be thankful for.
Best Halloween costume?
Richardson: I was a Power Ranger in kindergarten — the white ranger.
If you weren’t playing football you would be….
Richardson: Probably a basketball player. Not sure I’d be a pro, but most definitely playing in college.
Why number 91?
Richardson: That was the number I was given. I actually wanted 99, my old pee-wee number, but I got 91 instead.
Something people don’t know about you…
Richardson: I still watch cartoons. Batman and Spiderman are my favorites.
Richardson: That’s a toss up… that’s a tough one… It’s between Damon, Me, Antonio, Mo throws some jokes in there, believe it or not. Quinton, wow, we have a pretty funny D-line. (laughs)
What can Jet fans expect from you?
Richardson: A dominant ball player. A force to be reckoned with, a guy trying to make a name for himself. That doesn’t come easy, you have to earn it.
