Colon, Barnes on PUP

Willie Colon and Antwan Barnes were both placed on the active/physically unable to preform list.

Willie Colon needs a scope of his knee, Rex Ryan said on May 28.

“That’s just something that came up,” Ryan said. Colon will be out “a while,” Ryan told reporters.

Barnes, who missed the last 11 games of 2013 due to a knee injury, hopes to be healthy in time for training camp (Dyer, July 9). Barnes, 29, has been working his way back since suffering the injury during week five of last season, and is making significant progress.

Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.com

While both Barnes and Colon were hopeful that they would be ready for the start of camp — and they might be very close — but just lack the conditioning right now to pass their tests.

At this point, it might be hard to know exactly when they will be ready to resume normal practicing. In the meantime, it would seem that the Jets are considering their options at the situational pass rusher position with the Jason Babbin signing, and they feel pretty confident in their number of young offense of lineman in the last two drafts.

I guess it makes sense to sit the veterans  and take early look at the younger guys in camp.

Slice it any way you want, Colon is highly unlikely to see a snap this season.  (We'll stick to this season only out of respect for him).

BTW, for the people attempting to portray Babin as some unwanted scrub just because the MIGHTY Jacksonville Jaguars decided twice (which was actually once) that they didn't want him around, it's worth noting that Eagles DL coach Jim Washburn was apparently highly chapped when Philly cut him loose and claimed that Babin was made the scapegoat for the bumbling "let's make Juan Castillo a defensive coordinator" experiment.

Also worth noting that Babin is now the fifth ex-Philadelphia-Eagle we've brought on board since Marty Mornhinweg was signed.  I'm sure he vouched for these guys.

@tsjc68 It may be the injury he obtained. may have finished his career.

@jaym THE DOOZ. What a way to kick off my viewing party.

@UncleJoesJetFarm

Tell his stupid ass to get to the bottom of how the magical wizard of Idzik keeps somehow circumventing cap rules to sign rookie classes for just 2-3M of cap space every year.

What info are you basing that on? He's on "active" pup. He's a veteran with some injury concerns and he's been rehabbing. So he's probably not able to pass the conditioning test right now. Not a big deal. He will be ready to go game 1.

@jaym

Tanner's actually been in Cortland ever since Week 17 ended last December.

Tanner Purdum does not have a family or a social life.  These things are but distractions.  Tanner Purdum does one thing and one thing only: he snaps.

@tsjc68 Babin was a locker room favorite in Philly (I admittedly didn't follow the Jags much last year, so don't know much about his time there). He's definitely the type of guy that Rex will be chest-bumping in the coming weeks.

@UncleJoesJetFarm Or just a bunch of folks really happy with football back in their lives with one person re-posting every snide remark made by one Dickard Cimini.

@a57se @bob

Yep. We all had an impulse reaction after hearing about Colon and Barnes

Pete, may you be right, I can't remember a PUP player returning so quickly.  We're talking a little over 40 days.

Rex is the eternal optimist. Agree? He said "Colon will be out for awhile".

You know what "awhile" is in Ryanese.

I like how you actually agree with me that those writers on those websites are horrendously stupid and that reading them is largely a waste of time but still want to act like those of us at TJB who point out how horrendously stupid and counterintelligent sites like RantSports and The Post and Cimini are somehow want to shout down all opposing viewpoints, Pravda style.

Le sigh.

@Pete 57

And it usually does.  Most of these guys placed on PUP/Active all throughout the year will be activated within a week.

Joe McKnight will probably be activated from PUP/Active tomorrow, keeping his streak intact of being on the PUP list for the first few days of camp for like 4 years in a row now.

@a57se

You honestly think his bicep would be ok if his knee didn't become an issue?  True each can heal simultaneously, but it involves rest and rehab.

I've been wrong often in my life, I wouldn't mind another instance.

@a57se You also wanted Tom Gamble. And gave one of your passive comments about not hiring Caldwell.

@Pete 57

Just last year, we put four players on PUP/Active at the beginning of camp (Santonio Holmes, Rontez Miles, Junior Aumaveu, and Mike Edwards) and put Darrin Walls and KJ Stroud on the Non-Football Injury list.

A week later, only Holmes was still not practicing (and he'd be activated within a month, and his injury was MUCH WORSE than Colon's was.)

Pete 57
Pete 57

Yes because that is based on the actual facts of his injuries and recovery time. Based on those things he will be ready for the season. Now if some new information comes to light then that could change things but Rex being an optimist is not new information relating to Colons health.

@a57se And there you have it, Pete and I are in agreement.

I'm referring to the fact that some of Peyton's neck vertebrae are now surgically fused together.
