Willie Colon said that a player like Mike Evans “would be huge for us.”
Colon appeared on Jets Nation: Draft Special on SNY, and talked about how a wide receiver could help balance their offensive game.
“With the additions we made – Eric Decker, Chris Johnson and Michael Vick — we need somebody else that’s going to stretch the field for us on the opposite side,” Colon said. All eyes are going to be on Decker, so if we get a guy like Mike Evans, who can go up and get that ball, that would be huge for us.”
Colon also said that he wouldn’t mind having “some horses” in the stable on the offensive line after the draft and they’re focusing on improving their game to help the running backs, specifically Johnson.
“We finished sixth last year. We’re saying to ourselves we’ve got to finish in the top five,” Colon said. “Having Chris Johnson, that home run back, not only adds depth, but scoring points is the name of the game and I think we can help those guys get there.”
Brian Bassett, TheJetsBlog.comColon told me before the start of SNY’s live coverage that “I’d be interested to see us trade up … and get a star in the making.” Hear his full interview in the clip below.
We’re with Colon. We’d love to see the Jets move up and take a playmaker, but the likelihood is slim. Most likely the Jets will stay put and let the draft come to them.
