Combine Weekend Highlights

Some notes from the Combine …
Did You Just Say That? — LSU’s Sam Montgomery has admitted to taking “games” off … games? Not good.
Jones Status? — Tony Pauline reported Saturday that Jarvis Jones remains privately “resigned” to a Da’Quan Bowers draft-day drop and that “multiple teams” have taken Jones from their boards entirely. Former Charger OT Marcus McNeil’s career was shortened because of stenosis and he was drafted in 2006. Jones’s medical concerns will be a concern for any team who drafts players in the top half of the first round. Teams want guys who could feasibly be with the team 8-10 years and that might not be the case for Jones.
Right Size — The large and rangy CB Xavier Rhodes showed up at the perfect weight, 210 pounds. If he can post a 4.5 40 time, he could stick at the corner spot and potentially make himself a lot of money in the NFL rather than getting bumped back to the safety spot.
Duke of Earl — I’m always going to be partial to any JMUers since that’s my alma mater. Earl Watford (OG, James Madison, 6036, 300 lbs 5.06 40) dominated at James Madison and got enough attention to earn him a spot at the East-West Shrine Game, where proved to be one of the better small school prospects against tougher competition. Watford is unlikely to be picked in the first three rounds, but based on a solid performance might sneak into the end of the second day.
