Unbelievable! The Jets spent 5th most in the NFL on the WR position, double what the Colts, 49'ers and Bengals spent and 60% more than the Pats.  Even with a lower contract, does anyone still think Holmes is worth keeping when his productivity is compared to that of the WR staffs on the other (lower paid) 27 teams? Cut guys like this and draft or sign promising young talent. You won't notice any negatives and might see a huge increase in bang for the buck. - I have new respect for the size of the job ahead of Idzik.

You have to at least investigate what Byrd is looking for and you know Rex wants Idzik to. Maybe the guy just didn't want to play in Buffalo... Does anyone?

Does "Minnesota" mean where underachieving QBs go to die?  Cassell, Freeman, Ponder, and Sanchez...quite a Murderer's Row.

Happy Birthday to both Rich Cimini and Jake Steinberg.

One of the top sources for breaking Jets news...and Rich Cimini!

I reckon Brick is going to be better at blogging than I am at blindside pass protection.

No to Vick .And give Geno a puppy.

Spending $10+ million on a Safety for multiple years is about as dumb as Cimini is.

Id take Jackson in a heart beat. I'd even trade a 1st rounder. Proven, young talent.

@jake100 Ugh.  Why change the game that much?  If they instead made it a choice between 7 points or 6 points + 2 point conversion attempt, it wouldn't change the game but would eliminate the boring PATs.

@Marvel  Yup. Find 4-5 out of Reed/Landry/Allen/Bush/Jarrett/Miles to keep, or just keep the first 5 and put Miles on PS, and concentrate on OLB, ILB and CB.

@Marvel  That'd be like lining up a nail for over a year, then taking the hammer and smashing yourself in the face.

@Bent @frustjetfnAccording to  the DeSean Jackson article above, the table indicates the 2014 Cap Space allocated by each team. I took this as a snapshot of today or current status if nothing is changed. The point being that given the overwhelming consensus that the Jets WR corps is among the weakest in the NFL, it's even more out of whack with performance and underscores the job that Idzik faces.

@Bent @SackDance99Favre was the pact with the devil that brought forth the wrath of the football gods....

It would be like the Jets signing Eli (sorry, I just threw up in my mouth).

@Brendan

wouldn't mind a ilb apprentice. No more Mauga or Bellore or whoever the 3rd guy is.

or were u talking starter?

@Brendan

Probably the only move that could make me dislike Idzik.... or paying Tate 8 mill..

Well, yeah, but in about a week Holmes will be gone and then the Jets would drop right down near the bottom again.  2013 gives a much more realistic position because that's what actually counted against the cap and was paid.

@SackDance99 @Bent  Last time Eli threw up in his mouth it was intercepted by his nose.

@Disgruntled Jets Fan @a57se @jake100  What about that game when the Saints were down seven and threw multiple laterals to get the ball upfield and into the endzone "Music City Miracle" style...and then John Carney missed the PAT?

And I would take in his prime randy moss any day of the week.

@Brendan @Gavin Buck  Great player but footage of him lazily jogging out his routes, not even attempting to catch the ball and bailing out over the middle from that period when he was disgruntled a year or two ago would give me pause.

That's the type of stuff Holmes is accused of all the time, but Jackson was actually doing it!

Brendan
Brendan

@Gavin Buck Yeah, I'd be willing to give up a mid-to-late 2nd. Start with a 3rd and see how they take it.

We just had a discussion yesterday about how some of us feel teams overvalue potential over known quantities (draft picks vs. established veterans), so I think I'd at least consider trading a first for him, but if they're willing to do that, just throw in another pick and try to get Jimmy Graham.

Brendan

@Marvel Apprentice/future starter. Basically, a guy to learn the ropes from Harris, learn the ins-and-outs of the defense, and eventually take over. I like Max Bullough from MSU, personally. He's supposedly dropping on draft boards because he refuses to talk about his Rose Bowl suspension.

Brendan
Brendan

@Marvel  That's a tough one. I think Nicks bounces back, so I'll go with B.

@Marvel  Tate....great hands and healthy. Returns kicks well...tough....

Marvel
Marvel

if u had to choose

A)Tate for 8 mill per (I know NFL contracts aren't that simple )

B)Nicks & Jacoby Jones for the same price

Brendan
Brendan

@Marvel Paying Tate $8 mil I could live with, if he turns out to bee a good player for the Jets. Trading for the injured-every-season 5'-nothing wonderboy parading around as a #1? That's the type of move that would make me question Idzik's judgement.
