I'm still very much in favor of drafting a bright QB in 2014, as long as we beef up the O line and score a monster TE first. We can hold on to Geno and Simms and let them all compete.

FA could be utilized to overhaul our secondary, and our awesome front seven can be tweeked by any means Rex finds desirable based on what opportunities present themselves...

"GENO: I’d Play for Rex My Entire Career" - So would I. No pressure, screw up and still have job security.

The media's really playing the extremes wrt Geno. He had a little rough, rookie-type game vs the Raiders and the team did enough as a whole to win. Without the ST touchdown, Kerley's catch of an End Zone jump ball, Reed's INT and if the Raiders hold on to 2 out 3 vs 1 out of 3 INT's, the Jets lose again. And if they did, everyone would be blasting the overthrow of an open man in the End Zone.

On the plus side, Geno moved better in the pocket, ran for plus yardage and was generally more accurate, but still has a tendency to be high (weight on back foot?).

The point here is it was not a tremendous performance, but one I hoped and expected out out Geno at the start of the season b/c he was touted as a 1st Rounder who slipped to the 2nd Round (i.e., the  steal of the draft). But it turns out he's more of a project; a 2nd or 3rd rounder in a weak QB class.

Bottom line is Geno may develop into a 10 years starter; the franchise type QB we all want but from where he's at the jury will be out for years. So it's in the Jets best interest to draft a QB in 2014 to protect our future. I don't want to see the Jets make the same mistake they made years ago when they passed on Marino b/c they had Richard Todd. Yeah, I know about the usage rumors back then, but lots of us fans always felt they passed on Dan b/c there was no way he'd ever tolerate sitting behind a player he knew he was much better than. So draft a QB in what's projected to be the most gifted QB class since '83 and see what develops. Do what's in the Jets best interest for once and learn from your worst mistake. The kind of short-sighted mistake that hunts you for a dozen years as a franchise QB you could've had becomes a Hall of Famer.

This format is going to take some getting used to. Not a fan at all at the moment.

Man a lot more annoying pessimist have join up here since the commenting switch.

What happened to our more optimistic community.

Tho I think the Jets chances for making the playoffs is slim to none, I love teams that have to play for their lives the last 3-4 weeks to get in. I still think that was the key to our '09 playoff run. Love those matchups where it's a team that had to fight and claw their way in vs a team that's known they were in for a while and have been coasting, resting players, etc. my money's usually on the team that had to fight their way in. Remember when the Bengals and Colts "let the Jets in the playoffs" only for it to bite them in the arse? Good times!:)

I actually hate when it's referred to as "playing every remaining game as a playoff game" should''t you always play that way isn't that what winning franchises do? So what, you weren't trying as hard before and now you're going to?

@ww85 I've gotten used to it.

My two issues: The way they seed replies and the lack of notifications.

Agree with the good Dr. We're still missing some regulars.

I wish we had Dr. Reefer in TN... All we have is lousy old Dr. Pepper.

Agreed.  This Carolina game coming up fits that mold.  While most expect the Jets to get blown out,  and it could happen for sure, it's 50-50 to me that  this game goes down to the wire like the Carolina games with the Phins and the Pats.  If the Jets pull it out, all you'll hear is how Riverboat Ron looked ahead to the rematch with the Saints and didn't show up for the lowly Jets.  Their OL has issues; our DL can be beastly.  Our OL has issues; their DL hasn't put pressure on a QB in a long time. Our secondary has issues; their QB is suddenly challenged to throw the ball downfield.  Their secondary has issues; we finally have NFL quality WRs starting.  While I don't want to play a 9-4 team off a bad loss to a hated rival, this is about the best match-up the Jets will have with any playoff bound team.

Nice logic but not reality.  The level of intensity in every sport rises in the playoffs, and rises even more the deeper you go in the playoffs in every sport.  It's not a coaching issue - - - only the best coaches make it to the playoffs in every sport.  It's human nature, pushing yourself beyond what you've done before when it's all on the line.  Olympics are coming - - - same issue there as athletes practice twice a day for years but set new personal bests in the actual games.

DrJonathanReefer

It's just player speak. Every player on every team in every sport say the same thing all the damn time.

Agreed...it is nonsense and good coaches don't let that happen.

If you've read the blog I've been posing up a storm.

johnnyl65
johnnyl65

@jaygo @johnnyl65 I don't believe that, playoffs are perceived as more intense than a regular season game only because it's win or go home. The spectators hang on every play in a way they don't during the regular season.

Olympic athletes break records at the world games also and they also usually have personal bests in practice it just doesn't count officially so you would never know.

@a57se

The thing I'm having a hard time with about this team is,do we lack talent or effort?

The effort is all on the coach a lack of talent isn't. It's been easy to point to lack of talent then how do we beat N.E. and N.O. . Blame it on the WR and yet they make plays when the QB gives them a chance.

@Marcus Armstrong @Brendan @ww85 Ah, I forgot about that one. I don't use Macs, so that one doesn't bother me, but I was actually considering buying a new Mac computer this X-Mas season...hopefully that bug gets worked out.

@a57se If you checked back, you'd find that 400 comment gamethreads are much more common than 1000 comment gamethreads - especially when it's a routine win as opposed to a nailbiter, a huge game or a big embarrassment.

That was par for the course.

It seems the seeding of reply comments is already back to the way it used to be.

@jaygo @Bent How would you even know?

That's on you guys.  Get commenting.

@jaygo I wonder if that was timing. The team hit the skids and they changed the comments at the same time. Obviously the change would drive some away anyway, but I think the team not playing well also has played a part.

At least Bob's still here. He's the eternal optimist. I once walked up on Bob digging through a 5 ft high pile of manure and said "Bob, what are u doing?!"

He said "Dave, I just know there's a Shetland Pony in here somewhere!"

johnnyl65
johnnyl65

@a57se

I believe it has more to do with peak performance can usually be timed with training schedules, not the specific event itself.

Example,Peyton Manning is not likely to throw seven T.D's in the playoffs as he did in the beginning of the season. Peak performance is enhanced by training and adrenaline that is controlled.

a57se
a57se

Players tend to focus better when there is more on the line.........the play does tend to be better though some guys try to be the hero and that is what usually leads to bad plays.

So the Superbowl  is played at the highest level?

Some of the worst football Iv'e ever seen has been in the Superbowl.

I think Jaygo makes some real good points.......there is a difference in what we expect and reality.

We would of win if gates TD stays a TD. Or the fumbled stayed a fumble.

a57se
a57se

We won't lose to the Pats the first time if Geno doesn't throw three picks in the 4th Quarter either.

Then again, we probably lose to the Bucs if Lavonte David hits Geno a split second sooner.....

DrJonathanReefer
DrJonathanReefer

Every game is different bro. Comparing one game to another is like comparing apples to oranges

Each team has different flaws and strengths. That match up with ours.

Also little things change many games. I don't think we lose to the bills if Geno never fumbles that ball at the 5. Or if winters wasn't in at G.
