Vick committed a crime, lost millions of dollars, lost his freedom in prison. I get what he did was ugly, but he paid his fines, did his time and that should be enough. Stop with the indignation.

These "reporters" are just plain stupid.  Cannizarro is blaming the jets for sanchez injuring himself in a preseason game.  Yeah he was playing behing a back up offensive line who inturn where blocking against a back up defensive line and jags.

But it was sanchez who had the time but not the brains to throw the ball away like a real qb would've when the pressure was on.  instead sanchez took a season ending injury in a meaningless game and marky mark cannizarro is blaming the jets for that.

cannizarro, shitah, and shitmini clearly dislike the new jets because they're not getting anything they want from them anymore.  questioning idzik for not bringing in an overpriced cb or other free agent.  Boy these idiots loved the rex/tannenbum days where the circus was in full swing.  they could make up anything they wanted or call their boy petine and get juicy bits to make fun of.  not anymore and boy are they pissed which brings us to these articles discounting all the legitimate reasons for cutting sanchez late.  but if they cut him early they'd rail on idzik for not having a backup in place first.

Doesn't bassett know these guys?  can't you tell them to stfu and stop making things up.  it's really overdone now.  or maybe you could make a new section so we could make fun of them and discount all of their non sense.

it's infuriating.

I love the comment to the Deadspin link:

"I say this with all the pent up frustration that comes from being a lifelong Jets fan: I hate being a lifelong Jets fan."

Priceless!

So does Eric Decker ask Vick to any of his "Deckers' Dogs'"events?

For those not aware, Decker and his wife raise money to train rescued dogs to serve with returning military vets with disabilities.

Really Winslow was the best TE, so how does jeff Cumberland lead the team In td reception? Was not Kyle wilson here before milliner and started opposite cro in the absence of revis? And was it not walls who turned that pats game around for us and some fans thought he should replace reed or start alongside him? And if we get a just one quality receiver would not we be loaded as decker can move to the 2 with kerley in the slot as he is a first down machine on 3rd downs? And oh yeah did we miss the 2014 draft already, who was the first pick? Just food for thought

a57se

The Jets entered Free Agency with the following issues:

1. Only 3 CB's on the roster Wilson, Milliner  and Dowling.

2. OLB depth opposite Colpes of Barnes and Troy Davis

3. DL depth with Dooz a Free Agent.

4. A WR core of Kerley, Nelson, Hill, Gates, Salas and Campbell.

5. A TE group of Sudfeld and Pantale.

6. No starting RG or RT.

7. 2 QB's with limited NFL experience and question marks about their long term prognosis.

8. Special Teams was hurting with Bellore, Lankster, Trufant and  others no longer with the team.

The Safety position, which was highly talked about in the media, was not affected by the end of the season as the same personnel are still under contract minus Ed Reed.

The RB position has not lost any talent either.

Some would argue that both the safety amd RB positions could use some upgrades, but they both had adequate talent going into Free Agency.

Since Free Agency started we have made the following moves  at these positions of need:

1. We Re-signed Lankster and Walls while also Claiming Patrick on waivers.

2. We re-signed Calvin Pace

3. We re-signed Dooz.

4. We signed Eric Decker.

5. We re-signed Cumby

6. We re-signed Colon and we signed Giacomini

7. We signed Vick

8. Lankster has re-signed, Bellore is a RFA we did not tender and Trufant is a FA....

So where do we stand as of right now:

1. CB position has not been improved as we have no experienced starter to play opposite Milliner.

2. OLB has not been improved as we just re-signed the same guy who has been there for the last 6 years. We can speculate how great Barnes will be if healthy but we have no assurances of that.

3. The D-line is elite and Dooz fills the depth.

4. Eric Decker improves the WR group but doesn't solve everything.

5. The TE position is still weaker than last season as Kellen Winslow was their best TE despite all the issues he brought with him.

6. The O'line is no better than it was last year, just a little older......

7. We replaced David Garrard with Mike Vick......while just about anyone would be an upgrade over Garrard, Vick as your back-up adds little value to the roster.

8. ST's has less talent then the under talented unit from last season.

You could put 10 different guys in the GM seat and you would probably have 10 different solutions for the Jets issues to date, Idzik has chosen his path.

When I look at what he has done so far, I am displeased.

Those so-called animal lovers that is sick to there stomach should have been in philly in and out days in and days out. Dont look for a bigger platform in Nyc. Last year was silent and now the raucous crowd begins. Deblaiso is starting to look more and more like the wrong choice. And he is a punk cause he would never run against marty markowitz. So shut up guy and run nyc the right way

Mark cannizzaro is a clown. He once suggested is it time to replace Sanchez with brad Smith, now the jets are classless. No Sanchez was classless for doping an organization by falsely acting as if he was all in to learn and continue to grow, by baiting out of college early yo get a big pay day before the new cba rules. He wasn't readyyyyyy y lordddddd. Ha. Even pete carroll said so. But the media made it seem as though pete just wanted another national championship. Ha ha

according to Incarcerated Bob (twitter) the Jets is close to landing DeSean Jackson in a trade, his source said a lot of progress was made yesterday.

It was a terrible move by the Jets. The Jets are far from on a real run and have been preaching long term but hire a one year mercenary who will be a major distraction, cant stay healthy even WITHOUT taking hits as the last two occasions that he missed games was muscle pulls. Since 2011 his record was horrible, substantially more losses than wins with a horrid 54% completion rate and a higher turnover % than even the raw rookie Geno, HE CANT EVEN STAY HEALTHY!. This move again will hurt and cause a major distraction for Geno who showed even in his first year with no supporting cast won 8 games and finished strong, now the Jets instead of building on that and putting their full support behind him, are turning things into a mess again. They never learn. A one year, old washed up mercenary that is a distraction magnet for a team that is not in a win all mode , and will just take away from a young growing QB will be an abject failure. The Jets are incapable of learning from the past and have no conception of how to cultivate or support the most important position on the field, shame on them. Vick is not interested in sitting, he wants to start and will not help Geno he has his own agenda, you can tell by his comments. I dont trust anyone with his horrid background. Idzik you blew it!  There were other qbs out there that are not turnover machines, have a better than 55% completion %, can stay on the field and not devolve things into a circus. The Jets again show why they have not won the big one in over 40 years and still botching it. Sad day in Jets land. I really feel bad for the fans.

I bet at the very least Vick ends up donating to that cause.

@a57se  Good post. We now possibly have the worst corners in the NFL. Milliner is supposedly legit after being benched several times last year? And we have no one else. I cringe when I think of us facing 4 and 5 receiver formations. We can't even match up against a number one receiver, let alone 4 or 5 different ones.

Our TE position is weak, as Cumberland is clearly in the bottom half of TEs and we have no real backup.

Why doesn't Idzik spend???????

koala

@a57se looking at your list I think a lot has been accomplished only 10 days or so into free agency. Upgrading from cromartie's play last year will not be difficult. I never thought it was likely that we would sign a OLB in FA. I expect that by the time the season rolls around we will be much better at players 40 - 53 than we were last year

We did tender Bellore (you must have missed that)...and Patrick is a good special teamer so I think they're upgraded there already.

@jake100  Vick was signed as a backup, for 1 year, for $5M.  I'm not a Michael Vick fan as I think he turns the ball over too much.  But, this move is hardly a "terrible move".

Mike Milea

@jake100 The guy has not done or said anything to warrant any kind of distraction. He has actually said "Geno is the starter of this football team." The guy has no intentions on being a distraction and will help Geno progress. Even if he does start, he will mold a solid relationship with Geno and regardless of who starts, Geno will learn from Vick and will therefore become a better player.

Brendan

@jake100  Was he a distraction in Philly? No? Then quiet down, Chicken Little.

@Pete Whalen  After meeting with Vick and hearing him express his remorse, Pacelle consulted with The HSUS' board of directors and staff. Despite our utter disgust with what Vick did and our leading role in making sure he was convicted and punished for his crimes, we decided that shunning Vick forever would do no good for any animal. Vick paid $1 million for the care and rehabilitation of the dogs at Bad Newz Kennels. Now he contributes his time and his voice to attacking the problem by reaching out to inner-city youth.

I haven't heard anything on Bellore....last news was that Cleveland was sniffing around him and he doesn't show on the Jets roster.....

an original round tender on Bellore is meaningless except for the right to match, no?

You think Patrick is an upgrade over Trufant? We are also missing other guys from ST's......I don't think the unit has been upgraded over all.

@Hanknaples Damn I wish I could blame my family for making me 10's of Millions of dollars, being on the cover of GQ, dating movie stars and generally having the li9fe we dream about.. if he's as bad as you say hank, another year of college might not have helped. he might not have beaten out matt Barkley gotten hurt and the jets would have picked up a QB and he wopuld have gone to a lesser franchise without the millions in endorsements he got. . family did the right thing.

@Brendan @jake100   Philly is not NY. I just read that several animal rights groups are ALREADY mobilizing. This move is beyond any logical thought process. It makes no football sense whatsoever, aside from the circus. I cant believe how a team can be so clueless!

Bent
Bent moderator

@a57se @Bent

Yeah, he won't show up on the roster until the offer sheet period is over and the money won't count against the cap until then either.

If he didn't sign his tender, then the Jets continue to control his rights.  The only reason he wouldn't sign it would be if he was going to hold out for more.  That's not an issue so it's a mere formality.  I expect he did sign it but they might not have put the paperwork in yet.

a57se
a57se

@Bent @a57se

So Bellore signed his tender?

I wonder why he doesn't show up on the Jets roster...Vick is already there......

What do you think about the rest of the comment?

Bent
Bent moderator

@a57se @Bent

Bellore will be under contract for 2014 for 1.4m unless he gets an offer sheet (and if he does get one they'll probably just match),

Patrick impressed me on specials.  Trufant is getting on a bit.

I see them being better just from the fact that they were so poor last year (apart from the few good players they retained), whoever is in there this year will be better by default.

Joey will be singing Vick's praises before long. He bashed Geno, now Geno's ok. He led the"Rex must go" charge, then did a 180 and wanted him to stay. Give it a month on Vick.

bobloblaw

@jake100 @Brendan

You're totally right -- signing a veteran guy who is an archetype of the style the Jets brass wants Geno to develop into was clearly asinine.  Further, a guy who has gone through the struggles of new found fame and fortune, hit rock bottom, and then rehabilitated himself clearly can't be of any use in guiding a young QB.

Further, I agree, animal rights groups are the most qualified to make football personnel decisions.

I'm glad we could have such a reasonable discussion that doesn't rely on hyperbole in the slightest.

MPTG_Frank

I'm picturing a guy in a Jets jersey. Standing in front of a tank in the parking lot, holding up his hand in protest. Just as an aside, the tank does NOT have a parking pass affixed on its rear view mirror.

I think this might be my favorite line in the history of TJB. "animal rights groups are mobilizing." Yes, I think it is. It jumps ahead of "we must sign Bray!"

@DarrolRayFanClub  I don't know man, I've looked into it, and a Philly beat writers are definitely more supportive of the Eagles than the Jets beat writers are with the Jets. Maybe the fans are worse, but the media, at least comparing these two specific sports teams, is better.

Brendan

@jake100 Jesus, just shut up already. You're already repeating yourself.

Animal rights groups are "mobilizing?" What does that mean? Are they bringing tanks to block the entrance to Metlife?

The logical thought process is simple: one of the glaring holes on the team is backup QB, Vick is the best backup QB on the market. The fact that you think it makes "no football sense whatsoever" is further proof you're either clueless or trying to be divisive.
