Decker will get the attention that he has never seen before, but that will open up some of our other weapons.

Decker better not be the go-to guy while Revis is shadowing him...

I don't think the signals are mixed at all. We all know they'd prefer Smith to win the job. But we also know that if Vick plays lights out, he's gonna get the job. AND we know that Vick thinks it's not open so his coach just hinted that he better not get complacent.

Welp, I guess that I have to just sit back and grin and bear it as the BS that it is,with the rest of us. Can someone please pass the popcorn, OYE!

I said from the onset the Vick acquisition would be trouble and I still stand by that.  I think it will get worse not only with the QB controversy but when the season starts, with Vick protests, but the real issue is the undermining of the team with  needless major distractions that could have been avoided. I admit, I knew things would get silly, but I was blind sided and it happened much sooner than I even expected, OYE!

Maybe Vick just knows he can't beat out the incombant.

Even an open competition will have a favourite, and natually it's better for the team to have the young guy succeed.

If Vick thought there was no competition would he have signed?

Nothing to see here.

Quote from a Cimini article:   " The team responsible for the Butt Fumble is in danger of mishandling a potentially volatile situation. It’s probably Smith’s job to lose, but team officials haven’t characterized it that way."

This is spinning out of control already!   "So what’s going on here?         "The Jets undoubtedly want Smith to think he’s competing for his job, even if he isn’t.  Vick, who won a real quarterback competition last year in Philly, knows that it’s a sham — and he isn’t afraid to say so."

@Jeff E. Guy No, hopefully that's Christopher Ivory, resident battering ram. And not on a pass, but a toss to Revis' side.

@jake100 Where are the protests you also said from the onset would be happening? Shaddup.

@jake100 There is no issue within the team, Joey.  Stop trying to enable the media's attempts to turn this into something it is not.

@Alasdair Barratt fense had a great comment last night about how they're simply phrasing the questions differently to Vick/Rex. To Rex it's always asked about it being a "competition" (which, in theory, it is...if Geno flops he's replaced). They always phrase it as "open competition" to Vick (which, it isn't, it's Geno's job to lose).

@jake100 That's a genuine quote?

The team responsible for the Butt Fumble?

Good grief...

@jake100 Rex Ryan said yesterday that it wasn't an open competition. The person who wrote this article is lying to you.

@Brendan @jake100

Don't you remember all those vicious protests and picket lines around Lincoln Financial Field back when the Eagles brought in Vick?

No, you don't, because that never happened? Huh, funny, that.

@Brendan @jake100 I can see Joey ending up heading up to Cortland himself to protest just so his prediction isn't wrong.  Like the great philosopher who predicted the date of his own death and then when it was nearly midnight and he still felt perfectly okay, he killed himself.

Try to retain some perspective Joey.

Joey enables the media's attempts to turn this into something it is not???

I didn't realize Joeyboy was THAT influential!

@Bent @jake100 To be honest, it is ridiculous, but this unfortunately it will get the attention and be a distraction. The sad part is, it didn't even get rolling yet. I agree, the media add gas to the fire, but again, it will only serve as a distraction and not be a positive for the team.

Brendan

@Bent I'm still wondering if they called in the National Guard to break up those wild animal protests.

@jake100 HOLY [COW]. I thought Kimberly Martin was a decent reporter. This is from her article:

"Again, I think we'll let it play out a little bit," Ryan said. "It's the second day of OTAs. It's not closed competition . . . it's competition. And I don't mean to make light of it, but in a way I think I should. It's the second day of OTAs and here we have these questions. But again, let's let it play out.

You see the ellipsis there, signifying that she took some words out between 'Closed competition' and 'It's competition'? Those words were "OR AN OPEN COMPETITION, BUT" This is incredibly shady.

@tsjc68 @Brendan @jake100 Yes, but that was Philly and this is New York.  Oh, wait...camp's actually in idyllic Cortland?

@a57se @Brendan I'd be really surprised if Rex "sex scandal with his wife" Ryan and Michael "Still gets articles about how he should burn in hell" Vick read the sports section. The media is openly against them both, and they both are contractually obligated to answer their questions. I don't see how anyone who's forced to interact with Mehta and Cimini would take them seriously, but those two especially have reason to not read anything.

Brendan

@a57se You stated an opinion with no factual backing. People are allowed to call you on a post even if you lead with "I think." You do it regularly, don't be a hypocrite.

@Brendan @a57se

I said "I THINK", not "I KNOW".......

clearly stating an opinion........

You just like to argue and so anytime someone states an opinion, you look for something to argue about......I will just ignore your posts again if this is how you are going to be.......

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se That you opened with a post that no actual backing besides you saying it to be true.

Don't jump in with both feet if you don't want to defend your opinion.

@a57se And you aren't. Neither of these comments are on topic, though. Stop deflecting.

@a57se Yes, sorry for ruining your line of talking with facts. I have a tendency to do that.

@Brendan @a57se

Rex knows what questions and answers vick is getting and giving. Vick is aware of what questions and answers rex is getting and giving.

You are ignoring the fact that the Jets are also playing games with the media.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se You are ignoring the point.

They are answering different questions

They are not contradicting one another, because they're not answering identical questions.

a57se
a57se

@Brendan @a57se

That explanation is great if rex and Geno and vick and Idzik all live in a vacuum.

THEY DON'T.

They could simply state what the reality is and get everyone on the same page but they won't.

If Rex came out and said the Job is Geno's unless he really stinks it up in which caes vick would start, that would settle it.

Instead we get  "Oh, Geno will be hard to beat out" and "Oh there will be competition, no doubt"

Ambiguous statements at best............

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se They're not, though.

fense posted about this yesterday, and it was actually insightful and included a link or two. Basically, the media asks Rex if there is a "competition" at QB. He says there is because there is, if Geno sucks he's replaced, but it's not a true open competition because the team is angling for someone to take the job (the guy who had it last year, which makes sense since they're trying to develop him).

When the media asks Vick, it's never "competition" and it's always "open competition," which is asking a different question than the one Rex answers. It's not an open competition, so Vick says as much.

Then the media combines them, acts as though the two are answering identical questions when they're not and here we are.

a57se
a57se

@Bent @a57se

I think the Jets are enabling the media. They are speaking out of both sides of their collective face on this issue and THAT is what is driving the media.

Brendan
Brendan

@Bent It'd help fix the problem here, though.

Bent
Bent moderator

@a57se @Bent It's not just this Joey...it's all the Joeys.  People who think this way are the reason the media stirring is so effective.

I realize getting him to change won't fix the problem, but it's too frustrating to ignore.

Brendan
Brendan

@jake100 It'll be a distraction to puppy dogs and children and you apparently, but not the team. Vick will eventually just stop answering these types of questions and then we'll get to move on to "Vick is unhappy" articles instead. This isn't a new trick, it's 2010 redux. You're simply giving them what they want, you're a shill for the media goons.

Brendan
Brendan

@jake100 Why do we have to separate the two? Screw the puppet and the puppetmaster alike.

Bent

@jake100 @Bent Hmmm...not quite as unprofessional as calling Kenrick Ellis a druggie or accidentally tweeting out your true feelings towards a colleague.  Just, I don't know, irrelevant?

Are the Patriots "the team responsible for Aaron Hernandez's killing spree"?
