Listening to all the talking heads make predictions about the season and especially about the Super Bowl contenders....I am struck that the three teams with the oldest QBs (PM-38.4....TB-37....DB 35.6 ) are all included as virtual locks to be there at the end (plus Seattle) . If their is any equalizer in sports, it is age. No way in my mind all three start & finish the season. G-d doesn't send you a letter when it's time; the injuries pile up.

I feel that PM and TB especially have been living on borrowed time. I am not hoping they get hurt....but it's part of the game. Nothing lasts forever.

Does anyone remember the deal with the Raiders game last year? I just looked at the box score and it "looks like" Matt McGloin had a great game plus Reece ran for 120yds. Was it all after the game was in hand?

If Milliner comes back by week 2, Joey will be infuriated.

I've been saying this multiple times, but I'll say it again...Walls will shine this year.  Nobody's really talking about him but I think he'll hold down the starting spot and do really well all year long.

@1969JAN12th When we are contenders to go to the superbowl, I want Tom Brady and Bill Belicheck to still be there, how else will we get vindication? And it will show us and everyone else how good we are, it's good to win it all any way you can, but it's best when you beat the best to become the best, I hope we have a strong division and we are the cream of the crop.

@1969JAN12th

I'm with you on this.  The "experts" are all but handing the AFC East to the Pats, 50/50 it seems on handing them the AFC, and many have them winning the Super Bowl.  I get the case for them(TB, BB, Gronk, Revis, maturing kids, etc) but I'm with you that their core players will never make it to the end of the season intact.  They won a bunch of close games last year they had no business winning, played in a division with Incognito, EJ and Geno, and got smoked in the AFC Championship game looking bad.  I know it's the minority view, but I see them in decline with a bunch of aging vets trying to do it one last time.  That usually doesn't work.  Eli went from hall of famer to leading the league in INTs overnight, and the same could happen to Brady.  I am willing to bet Mevis is done for the season by the bye.  His knee didn't get tested in Sciano's zone defense.  Gronk can't stay on the field.  Belichick goes only as far as the talent on the field.  I'm playing the Under on the Pats. Sunday will be a tell.  I don't love the Phins but I expect them to give the Pats a real headache out of the box.

@1969JAN12th But those QB's just know when to get the ball out and do so quickly.   Now, they could get injured unrelated to getting hit.   Don't wish it on them though.

True. I'm not praying for their good health either.

Yeah, 20-3 Jets at half time and then Reece goes untouched for 63 up the middle to pad the rushing stats but the Jets kept them at bay pretty comfortably in the second half.

"Once again, it appears the Jets won't take drastic action. They'll let the courts and Goodell do the heavy lifting."

This isn't a Rice covered incident.  There's no video.  Who's to say what exactly happened?  Yes, it doesn't sound good, but come on.  Every team would act similarly.  His last line makes it sound like the Jets are the anomaly.

@idothis2 I've always wondered. Do you guys think that it's legit that the refs are biased towards New England, especially in New England? Moreover, do you guys also buy into the idea that the "prized" QBs are actually treated differently by order of some higher body? Like, are the refs being TOLD to protect the big-name guys?

“I do get held on every play. Every play I get held. Every play. Every. . . play. . . 100% of the time.”

So, are you saying that you get held on every play?  I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say.

@Wilkershakes @williamg1 "Once again, it appears the Jets won't take drastic action."

Times under Idzik where the Jets have taken drastic action:

- Cutting Dimitri Patterson for no-showing a game.

- Cutting Mike Goodson for no-showing OTAs.

- Cutting Quincy Enunwa after his arrest.

But then again, this is the same reporter who said the Jets should be ashamed of themselves for "ruining Mark Sanchez's livelihood" by making him play football in a preseason game, and then act like second and third team offensive linemen are not professional football players who should be expected to block other professional football players. (Sorry, but the whole Mark Sanchez injury "conspiracy" is one of the most infuriating examples of NY media that I've ever seen. It still pisses me off.)

@J. Smooth @idothis2 that's without a doubt. That's every sport though. The NHL favors teams like the Rangers, Kings etc. NBA favors players like LeBron or Durant etc.

Rex really should replace that Sanchez Jersey Tattoo with a Boss Hogg jersey. He was made to play for Rex.

Yup. I think Walls can do a solid job of limiting completions to his side, he's good at shadowing and swatting. The thing that keeps him from being a truly good CB#2 is his lack of ball skills.

Dude just can't bring in the picks.

3 playside holds on that play and no flag.  That is crazy!

@tsjc68 Manish's "sources" saying that Rex had no feel in that locker room were the best part of that.

Wilkershakes

@tsjc68 Maybe now he's improved since he's not covering SH in practice now.  That $ht is contagious.

J. Smooth

@tsjc68 That's the only thing that scares me. Considering Allen's relative inexperience, it's safe to assume he'll be up against a straight-line guy like Streater. Which means Walls will be on James Jones, no?

What scares me about that is that Jones is one of the more refined receivers in the league; really good ball skills and instincts. That's the matchup I worry about.

Bent
Bent moderator

@harold The best part is that they STILL made the play.

But if Mo doesn't make that play and no flag is thrown that could have been a big turning point in the game.

I am glad he made the play because the refs were not going to make the call.

Here's the NFL's logic:

Let's emphasize penalties in the defensive secondary so that games are higher scoring!

The outcome: Games are extended, drives are continued by ticky-tack calls, the superstars get a call every time just by asking for it and teams march down the field for easy touchdowns which is BORING.

What they should have done:

Let's emphasize holding so that defensive players have a chance to make a play because defensive playmaking is far more interesting and makes for a more exciting game overall.  Plus is would be interesting to see the offensive adjustments teams would make.

The outcome: Jets win the Super Bowl.

Ah, we won't do that then.

harold

@Bent

Exactly, it is really hard to play DB in the NFL already with the reduced contact area and the improved accuracy of QB's.  Back shoulder throws, being one example.

Now let's make it harder by limiting contact even more by strictly enforcing the rules so it is amost impossible.  And make the game unbearable to watch.
