Dex likes Rex and Rex likes Dex

Dex wants to flex and Rex wants him to avoid the hex

What comes next.? This is not a text

Nice article about Mcdougal....

So one "expert" predicts 6 or 7 wins, one"expert" (I take the term with a grain of salt) says that the Jets are hopeless, another "expert" says that there's next to no chance that Geno Smith becomes a good (forget about elite) QB, citing some obscure statistical formula. I guess we should just fire Rex right now and decide who is the best QB in next year's draft, because--you, know, there's no hope for this season. Or next season. Or the season after that. Well, what would an off-season be, if it didn't include so-called experts bashing the Jets?

Brandon Moore as a camp invite?

@Bent

Vick should limit his talent evaluations to dogs.

Too soon??

@Bent So that means that he probably actually said Kerley.

@Bent That's it, first he said He will win the Superbowl if he started, now this, lost credibility..lol, what ever comes out of his mouth is irrelevant...lol

@Bent Must have been that 360 windmill goal post dunk after catching a pass against air. No one ever said Clyde wasn't flashy.

@Bent

OMG!

Cue Clyde Gates Bashing and a slew of Hank gloating posts!

Brendan

@jetlife That is interesting, for sure. Dyer also commented that Aboushi is laterally very quick for a guard, but is getting pushed back by interior power moves, it seems.

Maybe this pushes Winters a bit, seeing someone drafting the same year as him, just later, taking reps at the position he started at last year?

@tsjc68 I believe that should be changed to the Ricky Sapp Award

@tsjc68 Cunningham is probably just taking advantage of the lighter workouts, but Dowling...man, if he can stay healthy he could be a prime piece for Rex.

@Brendan @jetlife Still can't get my head round why they moved Colon from LG to RG - was it just so they could put Vlad (a natural RG) at left guard and therefore replace him with the guy Rex called "the left guard of the future" on draft day at the first opportunity?

RG is easier in many ways than LG so fitting Winters in there might have made his life easier last year.  I wonder if it was just that they didn't trust Howard to babysit as effectively as Brick.

tsjc68

@Brendan @jetlife I assume Winters will still be the W1 starter at LG, and this is just for flexibility purposes and to see how Aboushi handles LG (in the event that we ever elevate him).

It's more intriguing to me vis-a-vis Aboushi than anything about Winters.  I've been writing Oday off all winter, but if he's improved to the point where he's a legitimate quality backup OL (who can handle both G and T), he might beat out the likes of Ijalana/Zucevics/Campbell/Qvale to join Dozier and Freeman on my three-man OL bench.

Brendan
Brendan

@Bent Maybe they wanted to just expedite Winters' on-the-job training? Or maybe they wanted to have a right side that they could count on to move bodies and felt Brick/Mangold could hide a sub-par player better than Mangold/Howard?

I dunno, I always thought that was weird, too

@Bent

How much do you think Rex really had to do with the decision?

Wouldn't the O'line coach and the O'Coordinator have the biggest input?

Brendan
Brendan

@tsjc68 I always pictured Oday as the heir to Robert Turner's throne, the swing tackle that plays guard in a pinch, too.

Bent
Bent moderator

@tsjc68 @Brendan @jetlife I've got ZOOZ penciled in as my swing tackle.  He practiced at guard with the Pats last year too.

@Dr. Jonathan Reefer @Brendan @tsjc68 As much as I hate it, Belicheck isn't sweating it, I mean Dowling for Revis isn't quite an even trade off..lol, if anything he's telling rex to suck it..lol, I mean grrrrrrrrrrrrr

Brendan
Brendan

@Dr. Jonathan Reefer I'd be lying if that little added bonus wasn't part of the reason I want this so badly.

"Best defense in the league? S my D" is something that sticks with me. I want Rex to slay that dragon, so to speak, and winning the division is the only real way to do it. ONE TIME.

@Brendan @Bent I wonder if it would have been easier to "hide" Winters (or at least give him an easier assignment) if they put Colon on the left and had a monster left side of the line.  Then again, maybe they see Howard as a superior run blocker to Brick and therefore the plan was to have a monster right side and just use the left side to keep Winters out of the way.

Bent
Bent moderator

@a57se @Bent Probably had nothing much to do with that decision and his words on draft day were probably based on the opinions of others too.

But can he throw a punch like Turner? Dude had a nasty streak

@Brendan @tsjc68 Funnily enough, Turner played some jumbo TE but never got in the game as a tackle.

With Dozier/Aboushi/Campbell/Qvale/Zucevics/Ijalana all here and in need of reps and evaluations (and with veterans being pretty averse to OTAs and Training Camp anyway) I doubt we'd pull the trigger on a veteran guard acquisition until mid-August.

And in mid-August we'll have a better sense of how WInters looks and how healthy Colon will be.

tsjc68
tsjc68

@Pablo Bruno @Dr. Jonathan Reefer @Brendan @tsjc68 But we'd have Dowling for the next few years.  Revis is probably one-and-done.

In any event, yes, a 2015 CB quartet of Milliner-McDougle-Dowling-Dixon... that sounds pretty great.  Young, cheap, under contractual control, physical, fast, and none of them smurfs.

Brendan
Brendan

@Bent That's basically my thinking, for that theory, at least.

Brendan
Brendan

@Bent That's probably what I'm thinking of, then. He was around when the team didn't need swing tackles, fortunately.

Pablo Bruno
Pablo Bruno

@Dr. Jonathan Reefer I'll tell you one thing, I'm glad we have a GM who doesn't spend like Taunenbaum, otherwise I can see Rex convincing him to pay Revis all that money, and we'll be broke and we wouldn't be able to build a championship team when you have guys that take up most of your salary cap.

Pablo Bruno
Pablo Bruno

@jsadolph @Pablo Bruno @Dr. Jonathan Reefer @Brendan @tsjc68 Probably not, but nevertheless, They will be enjoying his services this year, even though they'll be sorry for it later, much like our society, where we Buy expensive cars, houses we cannot afford, we enjoy them now, even though we know we'll end up losing those things. Same principle applies here..lol

@Brendan @Bent Hunter was the swing tackle at the time.  I guess Turner was the "utility infielder".

Brendan

@Bent So he was the Joe McEwing of the Jets. And Gholston was his Big Unit.

Hmmmm......that is the first I've heard of a $4 million dollar bonus on top of the $12 million..

Pablo Bruno
Pablo Bruno

@jsadolph @Pablo Bruno @Dr. Jonathan Reefer @Brendan @tsjc68 Absolutely, that's how you build championship teams, New England had a different approach because they have Brady and a Defensive minded coach who like Rex can do much without much.  The Patriots are in panic mode right now, they need to make a run for a superbowl now, because Brady will be retiring soon, then they will need to start from scratch.  For them it made sense to pay Revis all that money, not for us, we need to build a solid team, by finding gems in the rough.
