I used to like Schlereth until about a year ago. He got into some twitter argument with a player. It seemed like it was over a similar unnecessary comment he said. He posted his SB rings. This guy was a good player, but he acts like he was the QB on those championship teams. I don't know much about Decker as a person, but he seems like a good guy. As far as his production, i don't care how many balls he catches. If he can make clutch plays and be part of an offense that scores points and helps this team win 10 games, that's all he's here for. E.Sanders is a nice player, but he's in the exact same position as Decker was. He's the 4th option when Welker comes back.

WTF is with schlereth taking down decker in that newsday story? the rhetoric is way over the top- tripping over his own feet, bitching to refs, lucky to catch 40 balls. i don't see how he can characterize decker so negatively. i've gotten the impression that decker's the quintessential pro. there must be some bad blood b/t them.

OK, who would you start this weekend?

Matt Ryan vs. the Saints or Tony Romo vs. the 49'ers?

One last thing, the Hawks only blitzed Rodgers on just 3 of his 36 drop backs, go figure. The secondary!!!! Rodgers is tops against the blitz, and the Hawks were aware.

Ha Ha looked like making a tackle was the bully he wanted no part of. i hope Pryor has a better debut. not worried about his tackling, i'm eager to see how he holds up in coverage

The Pacs wanted no part of tackling ML last night, so we will give them Ivory! All we have to do is run and run until they are gassed, then pick them apart with passes. Controlling the clock will keep our defense fresh, so we can generate pressure all game. I can actually see a win in GB!

Friday morning wagering update.

There has not been as much support for a Jets win ATS in the public handicapping space as there is for this opener against the Ray-duhs.  I'm not talking about the talking heads who at best pick at a 55% rate ATS.  Even they are all in on the Jets for once. http://espn.go.com/nfl/picks  Rather, I'm talking about the analytical models that presume to analyze without emotion or bias.  Of the 50 or 60 such models that I track, only one - - - yes, only one - - - picks against the Jets.  I have not seen that before, ev-ah.

Who's got the hot hand?  Well, Mr. Bing of course.  Mr. Bing (or is it Ms.) says Jets win this game every two out of three times it's played.  Week One is tricky as the stats relied on are primarily last year's stats with some roster adjustment and mean reversion added.  Here's Mr. Bing analysis with some hot hand commentary for perspective: http://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-cortana-nfl-predictions-week-1-2014-9

The emotional biased view remains Jets 24 Raiders 13.  As explained at length previously, I just don't see the rookie QB behind a shaky OL with no depth at WR having any consistent success.  They will devolve into MJD right, MJD left, MJD up the middle reminding us of a Blaine Gabbert Jaguar team.  I expect our D to score points, and I expect our O to look better than expected with Decker and Amaro and CJ given prominent roles for effect.

Final thoughts tomorrow AM.

Cheers.

Decker is a solid possession receiver. He's not a Harvin #1, but he's solid. Michael Irvin called him a "technician" because he runs great routes & that is what Geno needs. Deck, JK, Nelsom, Amaro, CJ. Plenty of weapons to draw fire away from Decker. We still need a burner, but this offense is so much more talented than last year, it's not in the same strotosphere as last year.

WW85

@idzik4real I dont even see how bad blood is possible between them. Decker just did his job in Denver. Sometimes I think some of these guys do so much TV & radio time that they just get bored out of their mind & say stupid sh%$ just to liven up the conversation. I used to listen to his radio show & I thought he was usually good. So these comments are out of character for him. I don't get it.

Imo Romo. 49ers d is messed up for now. Aldon smith is suspended. Navarro bowman is injured and so is Glenn Dorsey

@UncleJoesJetFarm It helps when you consistently get pressure up front. Their secondary didn't play that great (a lot of this had to do with GB's plan to just ignore Sherman's side completely), but their DL feasted.

@UncleJoesJetFarm

Newsflash......Marshawn Lynch is really good.  Throw in Percy Harvin and Russell Wilson and a great defense,  oh boy.

Seattle if they stay healthy and get home field will be hard to stop this year.

Now let's go have a g#%damn snack.

Brendan

@WW85 A "Harvin #1" isn't a traditional #1, either. 11 touches, 6/7 run/reception. Decker will be fine as long as the rest of the offense consistently provides options. He's a great route runner, great deep-ball receivers and has a nose for the endzone.

As you said, the overall talent is so much better that I don't think it'll be too hard for Decker to find his spots.

Bytor
Bytor

@WW85 Decker reminds me a lot of Jordy Nelson in their style of play. Both are pretty big physical receivers that run crispy routes and can get deep. So while not Harvinish or Desean Jacksonish, Deck is very effective in stretching the field.

Really who gives a rats azz what you label him, he's going to make the rest of our offense muuuch better.

Funny how no one mentions that Green Bay doesn't have a #1 receiver.

Wilkershakes

@WW85 These receivers are better talent wise than last year, but they are also better for Geno too with better hands and more precise route running.

And saints d got byrd and others. They should be alright.

UncleJoesJetFarm

@Brendan @UncleJoesJetFarm Their secondary didn't have to play great, Rodgers was scared shtless of Sherman and half  the field was taken away, lol

Bytor

@bklyndude @UncleJoesJetFarm I think we can thank Seattle for softening up the Pack. My goodness do they hit hard and simply don't miss many tackles. GB earned every yard the hard way.

Bad news for their o-line. They may be leaky all year. Good for us next week.

Brendan
Brendan

@bklyndude They looked really good, but it'll be interesting to see what a team with a better defense/OL combo can do against them. They showed that you can go the Sherman-free route and move the sticks on that defense, as long as you can protect the QB.

Packers just weren't a good matchup for them once Bulaga went down and was replaced by a turnstile.

Wilkershakes

@tsjc68 I miss big Rex.  He still has the same humor, one liners and attitude.  I don't know.  It just lacks the same gravitas (and yes, I mean that word ironically).

Wilkershakes

@Bytor Just had to compare him to another white guy, didn't you...!

Paul Samuels

@Wilkershakes @WW85 Plus they are taller and have better hands. I just wish that the Jets would've brought in a guy like James Jones to line up across Decker.

WW85

@Wilkershakes The offense is so much better it's really night & day. I'd love to have a field stretcher, but this offense should be good for 24 PPG-a TD better than last year

Ryan has Julio and White healthy. I'd give him the start.

@UncleJoesJetFarm

I think Rodgers was more afraid of Earl Thomas on the backend and Cliff Avril/Michael Bennett up front (which is why they refused to throw deep and did so many checkdowns.)

bklyndude

@Brendan @bklyndude

Russell Wilson running play action and read/run option plays with Percy Harvin and ML is going to be difficult for any defense.  Wilson is so athletic and smart.  The playcalling was fantastic.

@Brendan @bklyndude

The poor throw that bounced off Nelsons' hands to start the 3rd quarter for an INT didn't help either...

@Wilkershakes Sometimes I do a Google image search just to see him in his bigger days. He was such a jolly big dude.

@Wilkershakes @Bytor Yah right! I was actually thinking how to couch that but decided f it. Guys like you get it. Screw the few nimrods who would misinterpret it...:)

@tsjc68 @UncleJoesJetFarm The way Thomas was fielding punts last night, they should've gone at him with Hail Mary passes all night.

@bklyndude @Brendan Wilson had a lot of luck avoiding 2 ints early which would've changed the complexion of the game i think

@Brendan @Wilkershakes Good call.  Either way...Big jolly Rex or Trim slim Rex...he's been the best coach of the Jets.  Hopefully, Woody and Idzik remember that.

@Bytor The center held up well, I thought. It was their replacement RT who was a disaster.

Bytor
Bytor

@Brendan @Bytor The center did look ok, although it seemed like he was getting help. The RT was a steaming pile. This game was only close for awhile because of Rodgers and his mobility. He may be running for his life all year.

My bad, I confused my "constantly injured, plays poorly when not injured" Packers OL draft busts.

I meant Derek Sherrod.
