Off Topic: Has NFL set a date for the release of this years schedule?

So Decker is excited to play with hungry Johnson. Never heard it put that way.

Keidel is such a hack. Idzik's job is not riding on this draft. There is a long term plan to build a sustainable winning program. Idzik will have at least 5 years and probably more. The key will be to develop a franchise QB.

@jake100 You stole my thunder Joey!! I was gonna say that over last years team (and we have to look at this) we really haven't substantively improved the O line or secondary.. we maintained or diminished somewhat...or if someone wanted to say we made the smallest and most modest gains fathomable at CB, I wouldn't argue...

I like what we've done so far with Decker and Johnson, and am hoping for a fantastic draft. I don't want to talk about firing anybody right now, I'm just trying to see us elevated from mediocrity...

Even nine wins would satisfy me, as it still shows upward trajectory, but ten wins will really get me pumped!!

I want the Jets to draft Lee, Beckham or Cooks at 18. Would like to see an o-lineman drafted at least by the 4th round.

"Decker excited to play with 'hungry' Johnson" makes it sound like Decker can't wait to play with his own horny pud (or play with someone else's johnson).

I don't think any GM's job is safe in the NFL. In 2010 Tannenbaum was a hero and in 2012 he was a ZERO.......Idzik has a ton riding on this draft. If the Jets put a poor product on  the field this season and have their 4th consecutive season without a playoff appearance then Idzik will feel the heat.

I think every GM is evaluated on a year to year basis in the NFL. Idzik can of course scapegoat Rex if the Jets play badly but I think if the Jets miss the playoffs this year and again next year that Idzik will be fired........

Idzik's job is easy and he is a moron if he can't get the Jets in the playoffs.....The team has a great defense....If Idzik upgrades the offense in the draft which is a no brainer then the Jets will make the playoffs.....If he doesn't he is a fool because the Jets need more weapons

Most who cover the jets are hacks. It's why we all come here lol

He also claims that CJ can make up to 9 million. That is an amount I had not heard before.

@bradysucks

The only GM that's in trouble after one year was the guy Cleveland fired.  Idzik's not in trouble,  in fact from an ownership standpoint, he's done everything an owner could have wanted.  Retained the HC Woody loves and got the salary cap in a position that should reap benefits going forward.  If you take a look at his first draft,  you would have to give it a good grade.

He's added Decker and CJ to this team which should improve the offense as well as a viable backup QB who can play if Geno regresses from what we all think was improved play to end the season.

Not to mention he has 12 picks in the upcoming draft that most people feel is very deep,  you would expect a few good players and some depth from this draft.    Things are looking up Jets fans !!!

Tanny had 7 years as a GM. He did not have a plan. He was too influenced by the HC and the owner.

Assuming the Jets don't make the playoffs this year, only two are on Idzik's watch. He has already done a great job putting the Jets financial house in order. He had at least a decent 1st draft. It has potential upside depending on how Geno progresses. Even if the Jets go 0-16 this season, he won't get fired. But Ryan will.

joemustgo
joemustgo

@bradysucks  But we really won't be able to accurately judge how well he does in this year's draft for 2-3 years, so while his job may depend on this draft, it's not on the line this year. Neither is Rex's, IMO.

@Pat d  It is $8 million for a two year contract.  The extra $1 million comes from incentives.

@namvetjet Yeah, well why the hell are you looking for the NFL schedule release date on the official NFL website?

Seriously, that site sucks. They announced it a couple days ago and it was on twitter, that's how I found it.

Some rookies contribute immediately.......You are just still hungover from bad draft picks like Stephen Hill, Vlad etc...

Guys like Keenan Allen, Adrien Peterson, Nick Mangold, Russell Wilson etc made big contributions on offense as rookies....

Rex won't be toast. You have been saying that for at least 3 years now.

@bradysucks  I am as optimistic about the future of this franchise as I have been since Parcells was hired. Not saying we'll get to the promised land next season, but I think we're on the right path. We have the right people at GM, HC and OC. Let's stick with the plan and keep building.

I didn't say Idzik was in trouble......

I said that if the Jets miss the playoffs for the 4th consecutive year the heat will be turned up.....

I think the Jets are a team on the RISE provided they improve their offense in this draft and add some more weapons who can contribute

will898

Exactly, Tanny did not build a solid foundation. He traded away draft choices and relied on FA. And that whole Tebow situation was a disaster. He had no plan.

bradysucks
bradysucks

@will898

Tannenbaum had a plan.....His problem was he couldn't evaluate talent in the draft and he never found a franchise QB......Tannenbaum was excellent at signing players from other teams who helped the Jets but he traded away too many draft picks and never built a solid foundation.....

Tanny signed Favre, Woody, Jenkins, Faneca, Holmes, Cromartie, LT, Bart Scott, Jim Leonard, Braylon etc.......All solid moves at the time.....The mistake he made was he didn't draft enough "home grown" talent  and instead relied on free agents and trades.....

@will898

If the Jets go 0-16 Idzik will be fired,,,,so will Rex......You're nuts if you think otherwise

Woody Johnson is NOT having 0-16 without consequences

@joemustgo @bradysucks

The early round draft picks in my opinion should always be used on guys who can contribute immediately. The exception is if you draft a QB who can sometimes benefit from sitting out a year......Drafting guys like Hill and Vlad in the early rounds never made sense to me......I'd never spend a 1st or 2nd round pick on a guy who was a 3 to 5 year project

Brick and Revis were solid their first 2 years.....They improved with experience but NOBODY doubted whether or not they belonged in the NFL

joemustgo
joemustgo

@bradysucks  Agreed that you can tell a great draft quickly but you can't concede a bad one for a few years. Brick didn't blow anyone away his first year. Neither did Revis for that matter. Also, Hill and Vlad had high bust potential because they were early round projects, so no one is shocked they didn't pan out.

bradysucks
bradysucks

@joemustgo @bradysucks

That isn't true.....We knew immediately Richardson was a stud.....The Chargers knew immediately that Keenan Allen was a stud....If you draft well the results are apparent quickly

Some players take a few years to develop but most guys will show you within 2 years of getting playing time whether or not they belong in the NFL......Unfortunately the Jets wasted early round draft picks on players like Stephen Hill, Vlad, & Sanchez and Jets nation has gotten used to being more patient than they should be with players who were over drafted.

The Jets feed the lie because NFL teams and their GM's hate admitting they got a draft wrong
