If Sanchez is willing to renegotiate, do you think Izdik keeps him?  He is a veteran backup who must know Marty's system by this point.  And if we keep him, do we let him compete for the starting job?  If Geno's the man, then he should be able to beat out the other worst QB in the league...

Given how benching Geno appears to be a major factor in his recent turnaround, I wonder if Rex regrets not sitting Sanchez rather than just taking away some practice snaps? Not saying he goes on to become the third Manning brother, but maybe he becomes the competent, don't derp it up QB Rex is still looking for. If Rex winds up getting canned, this could be the  biggest mistake of his Jets career.

 "You’re not going to pressure me (by saying), ‘Oh, well, this is a big game or this or that.’ It’s not life or death for me, man. This is just something that when I wake up, I was bred to do. It’s just that simple. I don’t care how you feel about it. You don’t like the fact that I open my mouth and tell you that you couldn’t block me if you tried to? You can’t… until you prove me wrong.”"

I am putting "must name first child Sheldon (first name) Richardson (middle name) ____ (last name)" into any prenuptial agreement before marriage. Of all the things about losing Rex that will suck, not having him mold Sheldon into a HOF-level player will be at the top of the list.

If Wilkshake doesn't make the Pro Bowl they should just abolish the game entirely.

@Bent

Oh man, if that is the case we'll really get some bizarre comments out of Naples!

@DarrolRayFanClub "Six defensive ends will be named, here is a list of five guys that are Wilkerson's biggest competition. Please ignore the fact that with my current list, Wilkerson would be sixth at the lowest and be included in the Pro Bowl. I'm a big dumb jacka**."

@Ceifus Hornswoggle If Geno keeps making progress (yes he progressed) he will beat out Sanchez easily. Mark has peaked and it wasnt much of one.

Was it though? It was the 3rd time he'd been benched already.

Brendan

@joemustgo His options at different times: Kellen Clemens, Mark Brunell, Matt Simms, Tim Tebow.

I believe it's come out that if Rex didn't have Tebow active for the Titans game last season when he was injured, and had a legitimate option, he would have benched Mark. It wasn't about blind loyalty, it was looking at the QB's on the sideline and legitimately thinking they couldn't do better.

@Brendan Ironic that Manish tweeted that, given his reputation for blocking everyone on twitter.

Bent

@Brendan  You could remove the first seven words from that and still be accurate.

Wilkerson definitely deserves it, but falls victim to the fact he's both a DE and a DT, so gets overlooked in favor of the pure DE pass rushers or top DTs on many ballots.

I disagree that Folk deserves it.  In any other year, he would but there's several kickers with comparable numbers and several of those have made as many if not more clutch kicks and more long-range ones.  He's definitely had a Pro Bowl quality year, but he's not one of the top two kickers and that means he just picked a bad year to do so well.

Harrison is really hurt by the new rules.  Following Geno Atkins and Vince Wilfork's injuries, the path would ordinarily be clear for him to sneak onto the AFC roster, but now you introduce all the top DT talent from the NFC into the mix, his chances become more slim.

@BrendanBut he's just another member of the Jets circus coached by that clown Rex—he certainly couldn't be any good! Come on. They need to put more Patriots on the team because Belichick's a genius!!!!

Eric Allen ‏@eallenjets4m

Unfortunately @BigDame900 couldn't take part in our D-Line interview due to a prior engagement, but he's a HUGE part of the group obviously.

Phew!

Manish will probably write that him not showing up was a big FU to all his teammates.

@juunit Rex suggested in Glauber's article that it was a factor.

@Brendan@joemustgo  Yea , but Brendan, he has David Garrard  to go too.....I think, or did I just dream that. To me that was idzik's biggest failing this year , not getting a reliable backup when Sanchez went down.  I almost wonder if that wasn't done deliberately to make sure Geno, his draft pick would get the playing time?  Heres another  thing that will enrage Jet fans.  I truly believe that if Sanchez ha not gotten hurt we would have one or two more wins and be in the playoffs now. Not saying that Geno wouldn't have been the starter by now, but I think sanchez would have definity beaten NE early on and played better than Geno did in some of his total blowup games.

joemustgo
joemustgo

@Brendan @joemustgo I wonder if going as far as they did in 2009 and 2010 doomed Sanchez (and ultimately Rex) by preventing the Jets from sacrificing a couple of wins in return for Sanchez's long term development?

Bent
Bent

@brendan Oddly enough, Richardson is a DT, which hurts his chances too.

I just read that there was only one Giant (Rolle) in the top 10 at his position, but apparently it's the Jets whose roster is "devoid of any talent".

Brendan
Brendan

@Bent Of course, but as long as they have it they can try to make it sensible.

Robert Quinn lines up on the edge and flies at the QB every play, acting like he and Wilkerson are the same type of player is just embarrassing for the NFL.

@r_in_ct@Brendan

Maybe there are just a lot of really good players in the league and they are going because they deserve it just as much?

Bernard Mclaughlin
Bernard Mclaughlin

@r_in_ct@Brendan yeah , Belicheat even took Tebow and turned him into a Superstar to make Rex and us look bad.... what..."Tebow " is out of the league"?  Oh...never mind.  You are so right!

Brendan
Brendan

@Bent As well as a clear indication that the "Players love Rex" thing is completely fabricated and the players couldn't care less.

Bernard Mclaughlin
Bernard Mclaughlin

@Brendan@Bernard Mclaughlin I was saying Garrard  sarcastically, However I thin there were certainly better options Simms that were available,none potential franchise but someone with starts under their bel. But Ok maye I'm reading toomuch into it

@Bernard Mclaughlin@Brendan@joemustgo

I agree with you, there were a few options that became available shortly after the Sanchez injury that we passed on while keeping Brady Quinn on the roster.

In fairness to the Jets, perhaps they were hoping that Sanchez would recover enough to be an option at some point in the season but Quinn was never an option so they definitely could have done more.

Brendan
Brendan

@Bernard Mclaughlin He's been inactive every week this season, so I don't think he was a legitimate option.

And to be fair to Idzik, by the time Sanchez went down all the worthwhile veteran backups were signed. That's probably the main reason they brought Garrard back after that injury, because there weren't any other options.

levi
levi

@joemustgo I think after this long they did everything they could for Sanchez and nothing worked. He just never understood the concept of ball security even when they gave him a color coded arm band to tell him to protect the ball in your own endzone. I dont think he ever figured out how to read a D effectively either and that should come with play time.

Brendan
Brendan

@joemustgo I don't think I would go that far. While the team won 11 games in 2010, they squeaked into the playoffs in 2009 and Mark almost single-handedly derailed that season a few times.

I don't think anyone was under and delusions about Mark (except Tanny when he gave out the extension), it was just that people both with the team and outside of it felt that the best way for Mark to get his ish together was to play through the pain on the field since the guys backing him up were all terrible and wouldn't show him "the right way to play,' or whatever.

@Bent

There are a lot of issues with PFF grades and this is another one of them.

As far as contract goes, it doesn't help his cause with no pro bowls or all pros.....

Bent
Bent

@a57se @Bent Yeah, but that's based on their grades and obviously his grades are down because teams have been running away from him, double teaming him and suchlike, so that's no shock.

I think he's still going to be pretty expensive and I doubt PFF's analysis is taken at face value in contract negotiations (nor should it be because even they admit you need to add context).

a57se
a57se

@Bent

Wilkerson doesn't make PFF's Pro Bowl team either so it would not surprise me if he doesn't make any of the post season teams. Hey, that's a good thing as we might be able to save a few bucks on his LONG TERM extension!

Bent
Bent

@a57se @Bent @Brendan It is ... and I believe David Harris is an example of someone who was once an All-Pro but never a Pro Bowler.

Fuzzy Thurston is another example.

Could certainly happen with someone like Mo.  If he doesn't make it, there will be four or five guys there who no NFL coach would ever take over him.

a57se
a57se

@Bent@Brendan

Isn't the All-Pro team more of an honor? The Pro Bowl voting and getting there is a joke as a lot of the guys who get voted in won't play anyway so they end up picking half the team from guys who didn't make it in the first place and in some instances, guys who were marginally adequate.

Brendan
Brendan

@Bent Can someone photoshop a baby stroller in at LG? PLEASE?

Bent
Bent

@Brendan @Bent Right and I don't think Harrison should go up against guys like McCoy (9 sacks, 13 hits, FIFTY SIX pressures).  They should send the top two space stuffers and the top four edge rushers and make it role-based like that.  Probably too complicated in practice though.

Mangold was third.  He might have the best chance of anyone - and regardless of his grades this year, he does deserve extra credit for holding his own while pushing a stroller.
