Any word on DJax meeting with the 'skins yet?

DJax gang affiliation is Neighborhood 40 Crips. Sherman can stick up for him all he wants, it doesn't change anything.

Despite his speed CJ is more of a volume back, I don't see him thriving in a 3rd down role. He needs 25 carries a game to break one of those 80 yarders

CJ makes so much sense for the Jets. Idzick knows what having a RB with homerun threat can do for an offense (i.e. Beastmode).

Need to make this happen. This makes a lot of football sense. CJ is 28 and has a nice record of staying healthy.

If we do any kind of trading in the draft, it should be up for Mike Evans.

We are OK at RB. If he is looking for elite RB money then we should look at the draft for depth instead of CJ. Chris Sims in the 4th or Lache Seastrunk in the 3rd.

@kniff They'll sign him.  The 'Skins love to stick it to the Eagles.

@Pat d  and reporters can report anything they want but it doesn't make it true. Two way street

@MS  Devil's advocate - can we still call a guy whose longest run last year was 30 yards a home run threat?

@dabronx

With a draft this deep at RB, when you can probably land a Freeman, Sims or Seastrunk in round 4, why bother with CJ at any price?    I don't understand the logic is our reported interest in some FA's and not others.

I believe he already has. I don't see many players coming to visit the jets without some sort of condensation being discussed in indepence. With johns reputation4 low ballingplayers are not gonna wanna take the time for a trip to New York without knowing in advance Financial parameters

Yes, he's painting himself into a corner. His new name is Jack Horner. He will be eating many plums. And the Dolphins will win the SB.

@Hanknaples  painted into a corner  hes already trashed the season..theres no one left.. and hes not going to get the people that are.

@Bent @MSHe did have a 66 yard reception and isn't that what the Jets want him most for?

@Bent @MS Its a tough one to argue because last year was overall not great. The offense was pretty terrible and actually lost them some games that were winnable. As a key figure, defenses were able to focus on stopping him. Not that the Jets would be too different, but I could argue that the threat of his speed and a better compliment (Ivory>Shonne Green), might do us very good. At the very least takes some pressure of Geno.

His healthy track record is a key issue for me. Kinda makes him more worth it than MJD (and even MJD arguably made sense ).

@hazard2012 @dabronxThe case for CJ isn't all that difficult to make.  Marty M.'s offense works best with a pass-catching, edge-challenging RB in the Westbrook/McCoy role.  As much as we may think a rookie can step into this role, rookies do fail and putting all of the Jets' eggs in the rookie basket might not be sound.  Also, CJ is a 6-year pro and should be able to work with the QBs effectively from day 1, while the rookies, many of who rarely catch passes in college have a lot to learn.  CJ has averaged over 45 catches a season.  All of the Jets' RBs last year had 54 receptions and the leader, Bilal Powell, had 31.  Johnson would be a clear upgrade, the Jets have plenty of cap space and they can still add a rookie RB that can work his way into the line up, like McCoy did when he took over for Westbrook in 2009.

@Monty @Hanknaples  March 31st the season is over. Monty called it!! I know its odd he wouldnt wait til after the draft but I think this guy knows his stuff.

@SackDance99 @levi @MS @Bent  In preseason his ball-placement on short passes was much better than Sanchez, but once the season got underway he regressed badly in that area.

levi

@SackDance99 From what I remember yes, maybe he improved on that too though because he did seem to make steady improvments as the seasone went on. Maybe it was more a problem of him not setting it up proper instead of him not making the pass though.

@SackDance99 @MS @Bent  I agree.One could argue that this is more of a no brainer than a Desean Jackson move. This would create a pretty significant ripple effect on the rest of the offense. Desean would just open up other receivers, CJ opens up everybody if he plays at a high level.

SackDance99
SackDance99

@MS @SackDance99@BentHis 66 yard TD reception against the 49ers was on what looked like a middle screen and CJ just used his speed and elusiveness to run right down the middle of the field.  The Jets just don't have dynamism like that at the RB position (maybe Goodson if he's healthy).

MS
MS

@SackDance99 @Bent @MS Right...screens would be dangerous again. Cant run effective screens with Ivory or Billal

@SackDance99

Had to step out, but wanted to reply.   We can't continue to play both ends the middle in how we're trying to build a team.   If we're building through the draft then CJ is not a game changing FA you bother with.   His best years are behind him.

I'd take Sankey, Freeman, Seastrunk or Sims in a flash over CJ because any of these guys could be the future.   They would all be steals in the 4th round...though Sankey won't last that long.

How many more catches would CJ make this year over any of these other guys?   How many big gains is he likely to make that they won't?

If we're building thru the draft then let's do it and stop wasting time with expensive older players who only have a year or so left in them.

@bklyndude @SackDance99Reality sucks for RBs these days.  The RB position is considered the easiest to replace on the offense, the era of the bell-cow RB is said to be over and aging RBs are the ones most vulnerable.  I envision CJ and Ivory working like Parker and Bettis.  Parker in the 1st half to score, Bettis in the second half to win.

bklyndude

@SackDance99

Does anybody think CJ wants to share carries with Ivory ?    Has he fallen so far that he can't be the lead RB on any team.  If he wants to play for the Jets,  Ivory and CJ would be a formidable pairing and keep them both a little fresher by the end of the season.

@Hanknaples @boomer @levi  I'm sure the Rams are very appreciative, I know I am.  It might also have had something to do with the massive contracts they gave to FA Ellerbe and Wallace.

levi

@Hanknaples  Favre was actually working pretty good until the injury. Especially not knowing the play book.

boomer
boomer

@Hanknaples @boomer @levi  And yet they couldn't find a way to keep one of the top left tackles in the league which is why they are reaching into FA to find one.

levi

@Hanknaples I like Wallace. I think they paid to much but he is very good.

@Hanknaples  I understand you live in Florida so you hear a lot about the dolphins. Its kinda like me Im I live closer to Buffalo  and Im surrounded by Bills fans and I dont dislike lthem ike I do  the Patriots or Phins. But damn man you praise every move the Phins make and they are in shambles.

boomer
boomer

@Hanknaples @levi  Actually it really started when the Fins couldn't keep Long because they spent too much money on guys like Brandon Marshall who now plays for the Bears.

We, on the other hand, are budgeting money to keep our future stars.

Starting to see a pattern here?

levi
levi

@Hanknaples  They havent made the playoffs in 6 years Hank and they spent a ton last year too. You may want to use a better example. Perhaps the Broncos...

@Hanknaples @boomer @a57se  Read mine, Brandon Marshall and Richie Incognito.

And they finished behind the Jets last year.  Funny that.

@Hanknaples  Im not expecting miracles in the draft but I dont want him spending every dime just because he has money. You didnt get to where you are today with that theory either Hank.

@Hanknaples

Well it makes perfect sense! We got 5 starters from 7 picks last year so 7 from 12 is actually not as good......HECK! We should expect 9 FRIGGIN STARTERS!!!!
