We have a new post up, by the way.

Is anyone considering going to the pre-season game at the Bengals?  I'm kind of thinking about it, but it'd be more fun if there were people I knew there.

levi

Hey folks, Im looking for a few links for my young cousin she is a Jets fan and is 12. She's a Geno fan but wants to know about other players too and learn the game. Obviously at 12 technical articles are gonna be to much for her to comprehend. I know some of you guys are good at finding links so if you come across anything I would appreciate you sharing.

Brendan

@Hanknaples What say I about what?

If you weren't such a batsht lunatic you would've seen yesterday that I agree that Cleveland is a top potential landing spot.

Bent

@Hanknaples I predict Miami, but it is just a prediction.

Are we going to get another "Decision" on ESPN.  Please, no.

@Brendan

That is sweet but I like my avatar better...wish I had a gif of that strike, would be freakin' awesome!

Brendan
Brendan

@levi Do you want stuff where she can get to know these guys a bit more? Or stuff that will help explain the game to her? Or both?

@Bent @Hanknaples

He should have a "The Decision" show to announce where he's going to have his next "The Decision" show, between ESPN, ESPN2, Fox Sports 1, NBCSN, CNBC, Bravo, and The Outdoor Life Channel.

@Marcus Armstrong @Brendan

They just deleted my comment about how Brendan, 68 and bent are as responsible for Hankenstein as Hank is....and the associated argument with Brendan and 68 about how they really aren't...

levi
levi

@Brendan  I guess both but like I said obviously nothing to technical. Just keep in mind her age and attention span. She is passionate though. Her older sister is a Pats fan so I def want to help the young one down the right path.

Brendan
Brendan

@Hanknaples Yes, because after I said "I agree" you went on a tirade and started misleading the comments and posting gibberish, as is your MO.

You realized that you wouldn't get your desired argument, so you just forced one on everyone.

Bent

@Hanknaples Wouldn't read too much into that letter.  Gilbert will welcome him back with open arms IMO.

Bent

@Hanknaples Well one of those #1 picks (Bennett) was a hilarious flop, so that hurts how stacked they are.

I think they'll trade out of #1 tomorrow too.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se And this comes off as you trying to reopen it. Just let it die, Bent gave it a quick death.

@Hanknaples  SHE WILL RUIN THAT BLOG WITH DAILY CRAZY RAMBLINGS!!

Brendan

@levi A good place to start might be the team's website. They have a lot of good interviews and videos about these guys as players. Might I suggest one of my favorites from last year: the interview with the DL group?

Then you can show her some videos of Wilk and the gang demolishing people. I always love that juxtaposition from the human wrecking balls these guys are on the field with the jovial teddy bears they are off it. This group is especially easy to like, they're always smiling and dancing and having fun. I'm a long ways from being a kid, but if I was I think I'd be gravitating towards those guys.

And if she likes the flash, Kerley or Chris Johnson highlights are a solid choice. I'm in a meeting, but I can probably scrounge up some videos when I get back.

Bent

@levi @Brendan We may finally have found a use for Rant Sports.

Brendan

@Bent They apparently turned down the #4 pick, #12 pick and Aaron Affalo for the #1. Not so sure they're trading it.

levi
levi

@Brendan  Thanks. If you can great if not thats ok too.

Brendan
Brendan

@Hanknaples No, you said his kids were going to school there and that was indicative of James wanting to play there.

@Bent  I sent that to her and her sister at Christmas time.

Maybe pick one player, a rookie, and get to know him as well as possible.  Pick somebody who'll be here a while and she can watch grow with the team.

Bent

@levi @Bent Given the discussion of Geno's weiner shot above, livefyre's tendency to order things weirdly could end up making this comment look reaaaally bad.

Brendan
Brendan

@Hanknaples  "I posted a comment from James that he planned to enroll his kids in his OLD HS in Cleveland"

And used it to support the claim that James is going to Cleveland.

I liked the Finals, but I like the Spurs. A lot of people I know hated them because they felt the Finals were boring.

levi

@Hanknaples There was a time Hank when I kinda rooted for the Dolphins. My brothers friend Brian Sochia played for them for a while. I think he might have been the first or one of the first to ever be busted for steroids.

@Brendan @Hanknaples The Heat are incredibly boring to watch unless you're more into the Courtside Countdown than watching the actual games themselves.

Unfortunately, most people today DO prefer the Courtside Countdown.

"Old style basketball TRUMPS "above the rim" any day and twice on Sundays !!!"

Agreed.

Did you mean Jackson when you were talking about Riley above?

I don't like Jackson (or Riley for that matter).  Still need to be convinced his success isn't just off the back of the players he had.

Brendan
Brendan

@Hanknaples It might, but you still need good players to execute it and the Knicks are short on those.

Brendan
Brendan

@Bent Yup. Saw a stat during the Finals that stated in Game 2 the Spurs had 22-or-so possessions with 5+ passes and only like 17 or 18 with 0-1 passes. The Heat had ONE with 5+ passes and 34 or so with 0-1.

Their offense really is "pitch it to Bron, hope he makes something happen."

Bent
Bent moderator

@Hanknaples That team whose defense got picked apart by Shaun Hill, Ryan Fitzgerald, JP Losman, Matt Cassel simply targeting the underneath routes over and over again because the likes of Barton, Bowens, Harris and Elam couldn't handle coverage assignments?  The team that gave up 35 second half points to the Cardinals?  That team was the most promising in 30+ years?  Really?

tsjc68
tsjc68

@Hanknaples

So you were a Jets fan for decades and hated the Dolphins for decades, and then the team cut Pennington and Miami signed him and all of a sudden you think it's appropriate to hold a grudge against your lifelong love of the Jets and start rooting for the Dolphins?

You sound like a wonderful fan, Hank.

a57se
a57se

@Bent @Hanknaples @Brendan

Agreed about Action Jackson (Yes, that WAS his Nickname when he played for the Knicks) and the teams he inherited.

They were stacked.

If he builds the Knicks into a winner, I will be sold!

a57se
a57se

@Brendan @Hanknaples

The key word in your comment is 'GOOD" .

They don't need GREAT players just a bunch of good ones to win with an old school approach.

I LOVED watching the Knicks of my youth, the ball movement and player movement without the ball was amazing.

Right now the Knicks give the ball to Anthony and everyone else stands around watching him, it is BORING!

Brendan
Brendan

@Bent I'd love if they overpaid to move up and LeBron still left.

Bent

@Hanknaples So you admit Rex did a great job last year then?

Bent
Bent moderator

@Hanknaples @Bent Yes Favre was terrible too, but if Pennington stayed Favre wouldn't have been there.  It's the other weaknesses on that team (most of which were addressed when they got Bart and Jimmy) which would have prevented that team from going anywhere in the postseason.

Bytor

@Hanknaples @Brendan

"NEVER, or until they show a  commitment to character or change in philosophy  !!!"

So you're admitting you're not a Jet fan now, correct?

Brendan
Brendan

@Hanknaples Something like 7 of the players they drafted this year were captains of their college teams. Wilkerson does more charity work than anyone I can remember. Nelson makes regular trips to Haiti and other countries of need. Sudfeld is taking his 2nd trip to Africa to do charity work.

Can you please stop pretending this is a prisons quad and acknowledge there are a lot of good hearted people in that locker room? (short answer: no, you cannot)

tsjc68
tsjc68

@Bent @Hanknaples

And in the three years prior to us dumping Chad in the offseason before 2008, here's what he had produced:

28 games played (out of a possible 48), 541 for 828 (65.3%), 201.7 ypg, 29td/28int, 6.0 ay/a, 82.5 rating

Pardon me if I refuse to rip up my fandom forever for the team deciding to move on from a guy who had ripped up his shoulder twice, missed half of the previous three seasons with injury, was turning 32, and was putting up a passer rating good for 34th best in the league over that 2005-2007 span (lower than Byron Leftwich, Trent Green, Damon Huard, Sage Rosenfels, and Jake Delhomme).

Moving on from Chad Pennington after 2007 seems like a totally logical move, dead cat bounce notwithstanding.  Dude looked COOKED.

@Hanknaples @Bent I expect "dirt bag" is considered a possible namecalling or maybe "injun" is considered a possible slur.  Since you used these innocently your comment was approved almost immediately, which is how the system should work.

Bent

@a57se @Bent @Hanknaples @tsjc68 Honestly didn't.  Maybe livefyre is to blame, but Hank seemed to inject this comment into a discussion about 2008.

Brendan

@Hanknaples The Jets are showing you, you're refusing to watch.

The fact that you champion character the way you do and yet can fawn over the scumbaggery going on in Miami while bashing the Jets just proves you're a troll and a Dolphins fan. Phinsider patiently awaits your official notice of defection, Hank.

There are a number of stories and legends behind Missouri's sobriquet "Show-Me" state. The slogan is not official, but is common throughout the state and is used on Missouri license plates.

The most widely known legend attributes the phrase to Missouri's U.S. Congressman Willard Duncan Vandiver, who served in the United States House of Representatives from 1897 to 1903. While a member of the U.S. House Committee on Naval Affairs, Vandiver attended an 1899 naval banquet in Philadelphia. In a speech there, he declared, "I come from a state that raises corn and cotton and cockleburs and Democrats, and frothy eloquence neither convinces nor satisfies me. I am from Missouri. You have got to show me." Regardless of whether Vandiver coined the phrase, it is certain that his speech helped to popularize the saying.

Other versions of the "Show-Me" legend place the slogan's origin in the mining town of Leadville, Colorado. There, the phrase was first employed as a term of ridicule and reproach. A miner's strike had been in progress for some time in the mid-1890s, and a number of miners from the lead districts of southwest Missouri had been imported to take the places of the strikers. The Joplin miners were unfamiliar with Colorado mining methods and required frequent instructions. Pit bosses began saying, "That man is from Missouri. You'll have to show him."

However the slogan originated, it has since passed into a different meaning entirely, and is now used to indicate the stalwart, conservative, noncredulous character of Missourians.

@Hanknaples Hank, what is the case for Pennington having a better career than Favre?

Bent
Bent moderator

@a57se It isn't, but you'll perhaps be interested to know it's only appeared twice in a TJB post all year (once when Kotwica moved) and I haven't used it since my BGA from the 2011 season.

Brendan

@Hanknaples Favre won a SB, is going down as one of the winningest QB's of all time and is a first-ballot HOFer. Pennington would make a better QB coach, so rock on.

@Hanknaples Chad Pennington never had a sip of alcohol? What point are you proving?

Favre was a dick. He was a sexist a-hole. He was also a great QB, way, way, way, way, way better than Pennington.

@Hanknaples @Brendan

Hank, are you really going to downgrade Brett Favre for using drugs and alcohol?
