On another note, Geno's favorite Corner Back, Justin Rogers was released by the Dolphins so he is back out on the street! Too bad, I was hopeing he might play against the Jets in week 17!

Well it is easy to tell who relies on the media to form their opinions and who relies on logic and experience.

Holmes did not cause his foot to basically explode nor did he cause his own Hamstring to pull. His lack of production the last two year is clearly due to injury and historically poor QB play.

Does Holmes come across as a a$$hole, yes! So do a lot of very talented people. That doesn't mean you get rid of them just because they come across in a manner you don't like. The way he responds to the media (people he actually loathes) is not the same as the way he comes across to his team mates or coaches. Just look at the way Bart Scott came across to the media, but that wasn't how he was all the time.

I am not trying to defend Holmes' public image, I don't like the way the guy comes off either but he can play Football and he is a good receiver. If you can't acknowledge that then you are just letting your emotions get in the way.

My favorite are people who defend him.  The best is "He is a team player."  He is only a team player when we are winning.... otherwise he melts down and doesn't help the team get back to form. He has proven to be a baby more then a leader. This comment is solely based on the idea that he will most likely float around and get picked up by a desperate team.

If I had a choice of watching Santonio Holmes or Stephen Hill running routes next year,  I think it's an easy decision.

Santonio when healthy can play in this league.

The Jets don't have a lot of those guys.

You know what's really sad...our top WR has only 413 yards on the season.  Josh Gordon in 2 games put up more yards...We need a huge upgrade at WR. If Holmes is willing to take a massive pay cut then I'm ok with him staying. He does get open too bad Geno missed him 4 or 5 times.

No thanks Holmes. It's time to sacrifice for someone else

Cautionary tale for all fans when we criticize a player (in this case Dwight Jones)  for leaving football before we know all the facts. Sometimes we forget that players have ups and downs in life just like the rest of us. Hope that Dwight is able to succeed with the Jets after going thru a time of unbelievable great sadness for him & his family.

I hate when players claim they'll "sacrifice" salary when their remaining salary is not guaranteed and it's clear they're not worth it.  You don't have a choice, Santonio.

If they restructure Holmes I hope they put it in his contract that he cant do that first down ball drop celebration he does. At least not unless we are winning, it looks really stupid when youre losing by 20.

Its been nice to see Pace getting in there and piling up the sacks.

Holmes translation: "After my multiple injuries, lousy self-centered attitude and substandard play, I'll say anything to try and convince some foolish team out there that I might be worth another big paycheck."

@a57seIt seems that the 6' WR is becoming a rarity outside of the slot.  The NFL is trending towards taller WRs who are more physical for the simple reason that the contact rules are in the offense's favor.  The Jets tallest competent WR, David Nelson, has been their most productive WR, outside of Kerley in the slot.  IMO, the Jets $$$ for WR should be spent elsewhere.  I'd open the bank for Jimmy Graham, who really is a TE in name only, and try to acquire B-level taller WRs and/or find them in the draft.  And, I still have a little hope that in year 3, Hill will finally put it together.

Bent, please delete this post, I posted twice because the first was in moderation and I have never had a post in moderation come through before in this new format.....

@machoking I find it odd that you base your opinion on Holmes on the Miami game instead of his entire career and all of the receivers/Qb's and coaches that consider him a great teammate and mentor.  Including the players in the huddle in that Miami game and the coaches who were on the side lines.

My favorite is when people use inaccurate criticisms to bash him. He was a team player the past two seasons, neither of which was a winning year.

Get the team back to form? Now he has to be a coach, too? He is only in control of his own play.

@Johnsbodybyvi Ledo Good points. Holmes is worth bringing back at a rational salary that reflects his two years of reduced production due to injury and poor QB play.  But on the whole, the team needs receivers, more than just one.

Bent

The fact only one of our receivers (Hill) has played more than 500 snaps is even sadder.

@1969JAN12th agreed.  I don't think any of us criticized him, but maybe the fans of his previous team did.  they probably didn't know though.

If they restructure Holmes it won't be good for the Jets. There is no cure for cancer at this time.

@r_in_ct Im not a huge fan of Holmes but piling on him for snapping his foot in half is just silly. He also had a hamstring injury just like the other 20 players in the last two years on this team. (20 may be a stretch but there were a lot)

Even when Holmes does the right thing he's ripped for it.

@SackDance99@a57se We haven't had a reliable TE since Mickey Shuler. Please find one, Mr. Idzik. Would also like a safety who can cover the TE.

@SackDance99 @a57se This is my dream scenario. If you some how, some way bring in JG I think you can get away with a 6' wr on the outside. Our base set would be Holmes/Maclin/Nicks/Manningham on one side, Kerley in the slot, Hill or stud draft pick on the other side and Graham. Yes please!

@Bent even sadder that it is hill, given his injury history.

@Pat d Agreed we can find 413 yards somewhere else... Let him go.

@brendanI've long defended Tone -- in past training camps, I was impressed with the way he seemingly took young receivers under his wing -- but something about the way he's acted this year has really soured me on him. Maybe it's his on-field body language that bothers me -- after every dropped pass or miscue, he gives off the vibe that it's always someone else's fault. Even earlier this year, he was making noises about "I can't throw the ball to myself."

After seeing actions speak loud like that, I guess I just question his words.

Pat d
Pat d

Whatever. I know what my eyes see. I know the Steelers gave him away and lastly I know what I have read. Forgetting what I have read I still see a player that is a problem.

Joe/Orlando
Joe/Orlando

@a57se @Joe/Orlando @Bent @Pat d Of course.  The guy is the most talented receiver on our team, for sure.  I don't "hate" him and I'm always pulling for him on the field.  He just makes it hard for me to root for him in general.

I don't even argue that other people shouldn't like him.  If someone likes him in spite of everything, that's fine.  But I will add my opinion on him and stick up for people who don't like him and then get attacked because of that opinion.

Joe/Orlando
Joe/Orlando

@Bent @Pat d Not everyone bases their assessment of Holmes on the NY media's editorial account of him.  Someone having a different opinion on a player does not necessarily make them naive.

Bent
Bent

@Pat d The other 19 weren't portrayed as cancerous by the media which was then bought into by naive fans.
