I expect Rex will say some good things about Holmes if/when he is asked about Manish's personal vendetta against Holmes.

jmactheman

@levi Unfortunately, no one will ask that. You'd think, that given that all of them are competing with the NYDN, and given that Jets fans hate Manish, that someone would take the opportunity to embarrass an NYDN writer.. Yet, somehow, they won't.

@UncleJoesJetFarm

I don't understand all the hate for Holmes.  He gave up on the morons on the team who eventually all got fired for being morons who couldn't coach/play their way out of a paper bag sandwich, broke his foot in half and busted his hump to get back on the field as soon as possible, and played as well as a WR can possibly play in a horrible Sanchez/Schotty/Sparano offense.

He did his job.  Others didn't.  Seems unfair to pin so much blame on him.

@Bent I wish Manish was doing more job interviews and more media organizations were making "smart moves."

Eh, I agree with Manish on this one.  Holmes truly is the definition of locker room cancer.  I hope he goes to the Pats.

@Bent

It was a smart move by the NFL Network to not hire this fool a couple of years ago.

Maybe that is why he is so butthurt and such a pessimistic tool.

@Bent He is such a clown, it sickens me that he thinks a man without a job is a good thing.

It is sort of like Jets fans on this Blog...we can rip each other on the Blog but outside the blog we got to stick up for each other.

@Disgruntled Jets Fan

and you chide me because I wanted Geno to tweak an ankle so Simms could get some playing time???

@Ceifus Hornswoggle @Bent

I think he is a guy that wears his emotions on his sleeve.  And he wasn't that bad until he came to realization that Mark was as bad as he was and could not improve(that and the fact that the OC was ONLY using him as a decoy).  Then he blew up.

With a decent QB/OC combo he could be really good.  And don't expect him to be a No.1 WR.  Chicago would be perfect.

@UncleJoesJetFarm @tsjc68 That's a ridiculous reinterpretation of history.

In the offseason following the '09 season, Pittsburgh had to show THE STEELERS WAY and decided to dump Holmes, who had an upcoming pot suspension, rather than Rothlisberger, who had an upcoming alleged rape suspension.

As far as Holmes specifically though, he was one of three players to call Schotty out on his BS during the 2011 season. Three players met with Schottenheimer to complain about the terrible playcalling. WHERE WERE THE OTHER 42 PLAYERS?

As evidence that the team thought Holmes was right, Schottenheimer was fired that offseason. Holmes was not.

Doesn't change the fact that people still think he got a raw deal with Jets fans who pin their ire on him for having a big contract and not producing at an elite level despite the fact that he never had the chance to produce at an elite level thanks to injuries, horrible QB play, and horrible OC gamecalling/gameplanning (which is all he ever complained about) and that his rep as a malcontent is 5% truth and 95% media exaggeration.

Repeated for emphasis.  Of all the key actors in the Holmes vs. Sanchez/Schotty/Hunter/etc. war of words, Holmes remained with the team longest, because

A.) He's better at his job than they are at theirs

B.) His complaints proved accurate

a57...c'mon man..be HONEST !!

M. Tannebaum was the ONLY GM dumb enough to offer a (4th) pick for Holmes at the last hour and the Steelers got on their knees and kisses his ring for it ....they were THAT glad to get RID of Holmes !!!

@tsjc68 @jmactheman

It is strange that all of the hate of Holmes came from a 2-3 game stretch.  And he was justified for being mad(although he may have showed it in a unprofessional manner).

Other than that he has been a good teammate.

And for people to bring up the toss of the ball when your foot is being broke is poor thinking.  Was it bad for the team? yes.  Is it understandable? Of course it is.

@UncleJoesJetFarm

When money is being thrown at you for poor performance it is easy to be a class act.  But when you have to earn your contract and the QB and OC are doing nothing but sabotoging your career you have every right to be upset.

@UncleJoesJetFarm

Give me a team with 53 Holmes-ian malcontents and I'll run up the score on your team of 53 noble Sanchezian warrior-poets 222-0, GT-Cumberland style.

@Hanknaples @a57se @UncleJoesJetFarm @tsjc68 It was a salary dump, Hank.  The Steelers knew they couldn't meet Holmes' contractual demands the following season.  Just like when the Jets had to trade Moss (and Abraham) because they were in cap hell.  Yes, actually in cap hell this time, rather than with a perfectly solid cap structure and loads of flexibility.

@Bent @Ceifus Hornswoggle

I wonder if Tone is interested in coaching after he retires.  He, like Vick and Garrard, seem to really relish being the elder statesman/mentor role they've respectively taken on here recently.

@Bent  Is anyone trashing him for doing this? I would think even his colleagues would be upset that he would do this sort of thing.

@jsadolph @tsjc68 @jmactheman Man to be honest, when you have players who are capable of producing on the field, you kind of look away from the negative things they do, all you look at is this guy worth all this trouble or can this guy make my team better? Based on that was Holmes worth keeping? No, he is washed up, only he with his ego doesn't realize that his best days are behind him. Look at Josh Gordon, why isn't he let go? Look at all the trouble he is making, you think his actions off the field aren't disturbing in the locker room? Yet, if the Browns release him, they would be idiots, why? Because he does make that team that much better when he is on the field and I wouldn't expect anything but someone who is equally as talented or productive in a trade, if they were to trade him. This was the move the Jets had to make, and I do agree, the hatred towards Holmes is unwarranted, he didn't do anything wrong, he was offered more money then he was worth, who in their right mind wouldn't take it, then his biggest sin was, meh, he thought he was better then what he was. The hatred should be placed where it belongs in the Personnel Department, but most of the key decision makers are gone, so we move on.

BUT HE TOTALLY DID IT ON PURPOSE, JSADOLPH.

I WATCHED IT LIKE THE ZAPRUDER FILM.  HE INTENTIONALLY THREW THE BALL TO THE OTHER TEAM, I'M SURE OF IT.

@tsjc68 @Bent @Ceifus Hornswoggle

I could see Garard as a QB coach on the NFL level.  But not Vick or Tone.  They Vick and Tone may do some mentoring/coachin at lower levels, but IMO they are not NFL coaches.

I have heard it many times that the best players make horrible coaches.  And Vick relies on his crazy good talent more than fundamentals. Not a good trait in a coach. Tone is fundementaly sound though.  I could be wrong on him though.

Yeah, that is why I would be on the fence with Holmes and leaning toward non-NFL coaching.  I could see him being a decent coach, but I am not sure I could see a HC bringing him in to be on their staff.

Vick and Tone couldn't possibly replace Skip and Stephen A. on First Take.  They're not skilled enough at pandering to the lowest common denominator with coded speech and inflammably hot takes.

Being that consistently offensive and stupid is an artform, you don't learn that overnight.
