Brian,  Could you go back to Camp.  We need a competent reporter there.  A whole week with just Seth Walder, Brian Costallo and a bunch of hacks is going to suck.

According to the tweets Amaro isn't actually practicing today. Enunwa is on the field though. Hooray!

Love that story about Aboushi.  These guys don't get enough credit for the community stuff that they do.

I didn't realize that he is Palestinian and a practicing Muslim.  Must be one of the few in the league.  Does he shut down on high holidays?

Interesting commentary on the LG position written from Aboushi's standpoint:

"He was drafted in the fifth round last year out of the University of Virginia as a tackle, and spent all season on the active roster but never got into a game.

Late in the season, the Jets tried practicing Aboushi at guard to see if that might be an even better fit. Now, he’s competing with Brian Winters to be New York’s starting left guard.

“To be honest, sometimes a guy gets out there and it’s like, ‘Hey, that looks right. It looks comfortable,'” Jets offensive line coach Mike Devlin said. “He has great athleticism. I see a different guy, to be honest with you, and so far, that has been carrying over.”

Aboushi has stood out through the first four practices of training camp, including shutting down Sheldon Richardson, last season’s Defensive Rookie of the Year, on two straight plays in Sunday’s session.

“Oday Aboushi keeps jumping out at me a bit,” coach Rex Ryan said. “When everybody left (after last season), I wasn’t sure that I could have said that Oday was going to be as impressive as he was. He decided in the offseason that he’s going to become more physical, he’s going to become more passionate and I see it on the practice field.”

Aboushi and Winters, the starter last year, have rotated between left guard and right guard while starter Willie Colon works his way back from offseason knee surgery. While most eyes are on the quarterbacks, the competition for the left guard spot is truly one to watch.

What are you guys thinking WRs? Gates having a good camp & even heard Hakim's name a lot? Never thought these guys would have a shot. Is Gates just a mirage who will fall apart by week 6?

wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal said about some of our WR's:

Eric Decker: "Lead dog. Smart, savvy, great feel for the game. He's everything we thought."

Jeremy Kerley: "Short-area quickness. Great third-down receiver."

Jalen Saunders: "Similar [to Kerley], fast and quick."

David Nelson: "Contested ball catcher."

Stephen Hill: "Becoming a contested ball catcher and he has the vertical speed."

Shaq Evans: "Very smart."

Greg Salas: "Good hands. Detailed route runner. If you want a 70-degree angle out of the break, it's going to be 70 degrees."

Quincy Enunwa: "Has been hurt, but he's a physical specimen. Once healthy and in pads, will be a physical force."

A nice mix of veteran and young players to choose from for this years team and collectively will be a big improvement over last year.  I want to know what Geno thinks of the upgrade from last year.

"We definitely want to be a strength of the team," Kerley said. "That's how we look at ourselves. We want to be the best receiving corps in the NFL."

How long til Cimini blows this out of proportion?

Didn't realize that Brian Winters was a third round pic last year.  I wonder if he's ready to step up.

I remember Greg Salas last year had an impact for a few games in November. Did he get hurt after that?

After getting the entire story about the Sanchez quote, it's clear he wasn't even comparing philly fans to Jet fans. There is something so inherently wrong with making up these controversial stories, and dirty. It would be nice to see these reporters policed somehow. I know we don't have to read them, and I don't. But their garbage gets tweeted and retweeted and discussed in other forums like this. Here's a question for today: what other profession can you constantly make up lies, and be successful? Politician, obviously. Any others?

@juunit Looks like they're both riding the bikes today. Someone tweeted that Amaro ran out to the field without any signs of a limp, so I guess that's a good sign.

@WW85 Gates is not very well liked because of his high profile drops but the guy gets separation.

@Pete 57 So was it a misquote?

""The fans are a lot nicer here."  That seems like it was certainly directed at Jets fans...  Unless it was misquoted.

Exactly. At least a gossip columnist doesn't pretend they are something else. They are telling you, hey this is gossip! These "reporters'" would have you believe they are honest hard working journalists with the utmost integrity.

@Brendan @Rudibager But so what was the actual quote?  "The fans are a lot nicer here." quote  does not indicate at all that he is comparing the Philly fans from 2011 to now.

Brendan
Brendan

@Rudibager And, SPOILER ALERT, the one reporter who took it out of context is NY sports beat regular...Bart Hubbuch!

Brendan
Brendan

@Rudibager It doesn't at all indicate he's comparing them to the Jets' fans.

Edit: It's just striking me as sketchy that no one is bothering to report any other context to this, just "the fans are nicer here." That's all we're getting, which makes me think they don't want to get in the way of a good LOL story.

@Brendan @Rudibager The reporters need to get called out a little more by the players and management if things are made up. I think the public shaming will begin to make a difference.

@Brendan Eh, I honestly think if that's not a misquote, that Bart wasn't far off from what Sanchez meant.  We all know we booed the crap out of him during his last bit of tenure (deservingly so).

Sanchez' latest statement seems more like damage control to me unless it really is a misquote.  In which case, Bart needs to be disciplined for flat out dishonest reporting.

jmactheman

Hubbuch is a Cimini-level troll though. I don't know how he skates under the collective radar. If he was going to be punished for poor journalism, it would have happened by now.

Brendan
Brendan

@Rudibager The number of times Hubbuch has done crap like this far exceeds the amount of times Sanchez passively trash talked someone or something, so I side with Mark until it's proven he was answering a direct question about Philly fans vs. Jets fans.

The fact that Bart hasn't even acknowledged the clarification (when he's usually a smug a-hole when he's right and would definitely call the clarification out as BS) makes me think Mark is more right than you're giving him credit for.

Even when people were booing him mercilessly, he still didn't sink to bashing the fans. Mark is a lot of things ("Good NFL QB" is not among them), but he's not one to really go the route of an ex g/f with a grudge.

Hanknaples
Hanknaples

@Brendan

Hate to break the news to you guys, but the Jets do have to compete with three OTHER teams in order to get the REAL games !!

And the SMART ones study the adversary !!

Rudibager
Rudibager

@Brendan You may be right.  I'm not aware of Bart's history.  Just saying how I perceive it at the moment.  The other 9 reporters that Sanchez mentioned didn't give any clarification either.  Maybe there's some kinda unwritten rule to not rat out other journalists though (although I recall it happening before).

Maybe it's such a non-story that nobody gives a damn to clarify. I dunno.

@Hanknaples Have any of the good AFCE stuff you've been hearing lately Jets-related, Hank?

@Rudibager I'm hoping for the latter, and that this just goes away forever.
