The All Bad Contracts Team

http://grantland.com/features/the-2014-all-bad-nfl-contracts-team/

Center: Alex Mack, Browns:
 No center is worth this sort of deal, even a good one.

Linebacker: Paul Kruger, Browns: Cleveland saw the possibility to steal a young pass-rusher away from its rivals and gave Kruger a mammoth five-year, $40.5 million deal with $20 million guaranteed. He mustered up a mere 4.5 sacks in his first year with the team, often looking like their third-best pass-rusher behind rookie Barkevious Mingo and supplanted incumbent Jabaal Sheard.

Linebacker: Philip Wheeler, Dolphins: Ellerbe, a competent player being paid like he’s a star, is merely overpaid. Wheeler received a five-year, $26 million deal and was so bad during his first season in Miami that the Dolphins would surely have cut him in March if it wouldn’t cost them $10.6 million on this year’s cap.

From the "Seven Under The Radar" article:

And as a final touché, he thinks he can play not only the slot but even the outside at this level. "I learned to play receiver from the outside, probably since I was 5 years old," he said. "And my dad, Walt Saunders, played wideout, and my uncle also played wideout in the NFL."

You may have heard of Jalen's uncle, Webster Slaughter, whose penultimate stop in his 563-catch, two-time-Pro Bowl career was with the Jets in 1996.

I cannot believe I did not know until know that Jalen Saunders was Webster Slaughter's nephew.  This is awesome news.

Amaro has had some crazy injury issues - head injuries, internal bleeding, knees and ankles.  Then you've got him getting ejected from games for throwing punches and running credit card scams in his spare time.  He's got some potential, but not being able to make it through four days of mostly cakewalk, no-pads practice, doesn't bode well for a 17 week season.

From Randy's Radar article re: Saunders...

Then he told me after his long autograph session at SUNY Cortland today that he's gained about 10 pounds since he came to the Jets "and I'm trying to be somewhere around 180 soon."

I wonder if he would have lasted until the 4th rd if he weighed/measured 180 lbs at the combine

Cam we get some game film on Patterson? Dude CLEARLY wants us to watch his tape.

I tell all those guys Listen! You want to make it in New York. You got to eat  da applle sause. Dats right alot of apple sause dats how you make it in da big apple...dats right apple sause.

I tell Pryor you gat da concussion. You got to eat da coconut thats right when the coconut falls on your head and cracks open. then whe you wake up you eat whats inside the coconut  and you get better. Dat right coconut good for the nogin.

I tell Amaro not to put da bannana peel in his pocket. You eat da banana fine but dont put da peel in da pocket. See it bfell out on the side lines and you fall down and hurt yourself..

Oh boy I tell ya rookies.geez.

The team has a great feel this year... now just to make it through pre-season without any problems.

Im glad Rex and Co. are preaching turnovers. Lets hope it works. This team for whatever reason has been bad at causing turnovers.

Good morning!

I have a feeling we are going to have a good year, and (once again) exceed expectations. Things really seem to be coming together on both sides of the ball, and I'm sure we will see a very heightened level of play making...

I think we have just two more weeks before preseason starts, CAN'T WAIT!!!

I suppose I could have included Chris Williams and Dashon Goldson as well, since the Bills and Bucs are also amongst Hank's many teams that he "isn't a fan of but roots for".

@levi Key word is trimmed. He's still showing off his flowing locks of golden goodness. I'm rocking a month-long beard growth right now and it leaves me sweating in offices with A/C. I gotta respect the guy's right to keep himself cool.

It's like giving a dog a haircut for the summer, it'll grow back before you know it and it'll keep him from passing out from the August heat.

@tsjc68 Why did nobody tell us this sooner?

@BDarc23

Idzik probably starved him for a week or so before the combine, just to get him on the cheap in the draft.

@levi Knee tendinitis, says he should be able to go on Tuesday.

@bob How they don't have you running the rookie symposium every year is beyond me.

Brendan

@levi Rex made a point about pursuing all the way to the whistle, which is something they can definitely improve. More bodies near a live ball, the better the chances that one of them comes up with the recovery. They also seemed to have targeted players who have a "nose for the football" (Patterson, McDougle. Pryor).

@levi @tsjc68

That nugget was conspicuously absent from the pre-draft reports (and I read a ton of them).  Don't know how I missed it.

@Brendan  OK, nothing changed then. Hopefully hes a go for Tuesday.

@Bent @bob

I'm just glad Stephen A. Smith isn't running the rookie symposium.

@Brendan @levi I want to see a band of feral hyenas swarming the ballcarrier and fighting for a piece of the kill. No standing around admiring your teammate's work.

levi
levi

@Brendan  I think you will see the DBs aggressively going for turnovers like Milliner did towards the end of the season. Its also risky of course but hopefully worth it.

Brendan
Brendan

@levi Yeah, hopefully a day of rest has him feeling fresh. They just beat them up for four days, hopefully they're taking care of themselves today.

Brendan

@joemustgo Can we go with a pride of lions or something? I've never quite gotten over what those suckers did to Mufasa.

Brendan
Brendan

@levi Yup. We've already hard about Patterson and McDougle timing routes and making great, instinctive plays, so I think we're going to see a lot more tipped passes, jumped routes, and big hits from the back end.

levi

@Brendan Speaking of TE's... Sudfeld is freaking huge. He stands out on the field. Nelson too for his length, dude must have an 8 foot catch radius.

Brendan
Brendan

@levi Sudfeld's nickname is "Sasquatch" hahaha.

tsjc68

@levi @Brendan

His other nickname is apparently "Studfeld".  Dude's yet to play any meaningful snaps, and he's already amassed three quality nicknames (the most famous being "Baby Gronk".)

This bodes well.
