The easy part is knowing the team needs, weaknesses andstrengths, the tough part is finding the right talent for those positions.

Pretty dumb of Reed to keep 50 Gs in cash in his car, if that's really what happened.

I think 17m over 4 years with around 8m guaranteed would be very fair for Howard.

Glad to see the Jets are trying to get Howard locked up before Free Agency.

I have a feeling we will hear about a few Jets Free Agents being signed in the next week or three.

Watching some more tape of Troy Niklas and this kid is really impressive. This was only his second season playing TE, he came to ND as a Defensive lineman! Because of his Athleticism they first converted him to an OLB then to TE. He mainly was the second TE his sophmore season for his blocking then this year became the starter! You watch him block and he is clearly the best in the draft at that plus he is very athletic and makes real nice plays in the passing game. You can see the improvement in his game from the Michigan game to the ASU game thru the Bowl game vs. Rutgers. I'd love to get this guy in the 2nd round after getting a stud WR in the first.........

I also want Pace back if reasonable. He obviously has a lot left in the tank and is a solid leader. He is solid at setting the edge and can get pressure on the QB. He is a jack of all trades and played almost 100% of the snaps. We are thin at the position and until we get a younger solid olb groomed, I think he needs to stay, again, if reasonable in price.

I think they will give Folk 2m an keep him, it would be a good move. It seems like he finally mastered kicking in a very tough stadium. Many games are decided by a couple of points and especially with the style the jets will play. We are far from cap hell, so what is a few pennies for a key position for a guy who kicked really well last season? Why take a chance over crumbs?

In my opinion, if we don't sign a veteran Guard in FAcy , we will be playing with fire and two, if we can't hold on to Howard. I don't want a scenario where we finally get some play makers but the oline is a mess.

@jake100

Meh, he leaves off Marion Grice who is very similar to Sims and maybe even better and Tre Mason is better than Carey in my book.

@jake100  The team had success with another Louisville safety, if I remember correctly.

@jake100  Where'd you read this one, Joey? Or did you just come up with these figures yourself?

Either way, that seems like a very fair deal for Howard.

It is easy to spend other peoples' money!

@jake100  I think it's fair to assume Howard will be back.

@jake100  Colon already said he wants to retire a Jet. Re-sign him, draft his replacement and groom him.

" Reed’s fallen on tough times since leaving the Ravens. He flopped badly in Houston last season, and then went to the Jets were he at times looked like Willie Mays lost in the outfield in his later playing days. [via Houston 2]"

What an ignorant statement from this guy!

@Disgruntled Jets Fan @jake100

Not too confident in him, not just his injury and durability, but who he is as a person. He has a huge history of issues, they are not isolated incidents. It seems it is a way of life for him. I am not saying they are as serious as his last one, but he would be a headache and distraction, just my opinion. I would rather move on and acquire a more stable player; they are cheap in the mid rounds, if we can find one.

This cat is more vicious than KR. He had 3 games in a row that he hit players and they didnt finish the game!

@levi I just want to rummage through his beard.

jake100

@Brendan @jake100

I just figured he is worth around that. The cat is an ass kickin run blocker and has even picked up his game in pass protection. He is young at the position and still growing, not to mention vital to the oline's continuity, especially with Geno set to make a nice jump with some weapons. It all starts on the oline.

jake100
jake100

@a57se @jake100

You don't think that would be fair considering how he played and how important he is to the continuity of the oline?

jake100
jake100

@Brendan @jake100   But if Colon goes down early what then? He is injury prone and not getting any younger.

jake100
jake100

@a57se @jake100

I agree, but I was more bummed that he got ripped off, than the ignorant comment about his ability.

jake100
jake100

@Brendan @jake100

I know, I was just pointing out from my reading on him that he is a more versatile package than Hollywood. I have to admit, a real solid Free safety is tempting, even early, but I would not go that route.

@jake100 I wasn't commenting on him as a player, just making a connection, that's all.

Don't you start acting like Cimini now!

Yup, definitely around 4m a year seems very reasonable and seems to be agreed on by many. Hope they do it!

@rkymtnjet Haha, good 'ol Joey.

Either way, I like this deal, sign me up for some of that.

@Brendan @jake100

Cimini posted the exact same deal earlier today. Just saying.

In fact, only one team ran behind their right tackle more often than the Jets did with Howard, according to NFL stats. How much is he worth? New England Patriots right tackleSebastian Vollmer is a good comparison. A year ago, he signed a four-year contract for close to $17 million.

Edit'd to give Cimini some credit.

@jake100 @a57se

I don't know what would be fair for Howard.......just a general observation about spending money.

Brendan

@jake100 Then you have someone (Ijalana? Aboushi? Campbell?) that steps in and you adjust.

Colon has injury risk, but when healthy he's a good player. Every veteran you'll find for the low cost you'd find Colon for will have flaws.

I'd replace him with Asamoah, but if they bring Colon back I won't be too concerned.

@Brendan @jake100

There was some guy who won the lottery back in the '90s who had $500,000 stolen from his car. When people asked him why he had that kind of cash, he said because he could. A couple years later he had another $200,000 stolen from his car.

@Brendan @jake100

I agree, if I needed to withdraw that amount, I would be well prepared and with a posse coming with me.
