Pretty dumb of Reed to keep 50 Gs in cash in his car, if that's really what happened.

Yep, Saints making room for Jimmy.

I hope they don't pussyfoot around with Folk (see what I did there?) and they can work out a good deal for both sides. Fairly reliable kickers can be hard to come by, and I haven't seen anything from Folk that makes me think that he's "losing it."

@jake100  The team had success with another Louisville safety, if I remember correctly.

@jake100  Where'd you read this one, Joey? Or did you just come up with these figures yourself?

Either way, that seems like a very fair deal for Howard.

Brendan
Brendan

@jake100  I think it's fair to assume Howard will be back.

@jake100  Colon already said he wants to retire a Jet. Re-sign him, draft his replacement and groom him.

@jake100

Because of the divisions they play in.  It's based off last years results.

Strength of schedule at this point means nothing.  Free agency hasn't started, the draft hasn't occurred and nobody knows who will get injured.

@jake100  Wrestling, boxing and kick boxing? sounds like MMA could be right up his alley.

@jake100  We all do this everyday but if Evans is still there Id take him if not take Ebron if hes gone who the heck knows.

@levi I just want to rummage through his beard.

@levi @jake100

Watkins>Evans>Lee>Ebron>Beckham>ASJ

I think that's my ranking today. It'll probably change tomorrow.

@jake100 I wasn't commenting on him as a player, just making a connection, that's all.

@Brendan Haha you might find half his breakfast in that thing, couple eggs and toast.

@rkymtnjet Haha, good 'ol Joey.

Either way, I like this deal, sign me up for some of that.

@Brendan @jake100

Cimini posted the exact same deal earlier today. Just saying.

In fact, only one team ran behind their right tackle more often than the Jets did with Howard, according to NFL stats. How much is he worth? New England Patriots right tackleSebastian Vollmer is a good comparison. A year ago, he signed a four-year contract for close to $17 million.

Edit'd to give Cimini some credit.

@jake100 Then you have someone (Ijalana? Aboushi? Campbell?) that steps in and you adjust.

Colon has injury risk, but when healthy he's a good player. Every veteran you'll find for the low cost you'd find Colon for will have flaws.

I'd replace him with Asamoah, but if they bring Colon back I won't be too concerned.

@Brendan @jake100

There was some guy who won the lottery back in the '90s who had $500,000 stolen from his car. When people asked him why he had that kind of cash, he said because he could. A couple years later he had another $200,000 stolen from his car.

@jake100 @jdb4

Why is it hard to understand?  The Broncos were 13-3, the Chiefs were 11-5, the Chargers were 9-7.

The Titans were 7-9, the Jaguars were 4-12, the Texans were 2-14.

Take those 6 division games away from the Raiders and Colts next year and their schedules will actually reflect the way they finished.

@bradysucks  I'm sorry? Who said Mark is elite? I'm saying Eli and Flacco are absolutely NOT elite.

bradysucks
bradysucks

Manziel!

a57se....Name the last QB who played well in Clevland? That franchise is a disaster

bradysucks
bradysucks

Sanchez did not play great in the playoffs....He barely passed at all and was protected by his running game and defense.

He played great for Sanchez....which means he didn't screw up....but he didn't carry the Jets either

bradysucks
bradysucks

Weeden > Sanchez

By the way I also wanted to draft Russell Wilson that year and was mocked...

So whatever

bradysucks
bradysucks

Mark and elite! You've gone mad....he isn't elite even for stretches but please make the argument if it makes you feel better.....I've even heard that the Jets were making a huge mistake trying to trade for Peyton Manning because they had Sanchez so why not this as well...lol

Mark Sanchez is elite (except when he isn't elite...aka throwing pick 6's and buttfumbling)

Lol

Brendan
Brendan

@bradysucks  Mark Sanchez played great in the playoffs, too. These guys are only slightly better than him, but earning $100 million contracts, that's the point.

bradysucks
bradysucks

QB is pretty important and Flacco was elite in the playoffs and in the Super Bowl ! He protected the football which is HUGE and something none of the Jets turnover prone QB's have done!

Eli is ice in the playoffs and in the Super Bowl - cold blooded!

Both guys may not be consistently elite but when they are on they are much better than what Sanchez and Geno have show

juunit
juunit

@Brendan @juunit

Well, those guys had the numbers when they won. But I definitely wouldn't call either of them elite, seeing how elite implies consistency.

Brendan
Brendan

@juunit Ha ha ha ha ha.

Eli and Flacco have 3 SB's between them, but people think you can only win with an elite QB?

@MarshRandy I assume we're doing the same things, only I'm sitting at my desk and you're at home.

There will be no work being done today.

@Brendan @juunit

Renner wasn't a run first guy. Williams was, and Williams eventually became the full time starter after Renner got hurt. But Renner was a good college QB, and a traditional QB as well. He missed about half the season this year.

Brendan
Brendan

@jdb4 Eh, I've soured on Amaro a bit. Lining him up side-by-side with Ebron, I like Ebron much more.

jdb4
jdb4

@Brendan @juunit

Yes, he does make some nice catches in traffic but he also has a few easy drops.  He also doesn't appear to be a natural hands catcher, he uses his forearms and body a bit too often.

I prefer Amaro.

Brendan
Brendan

@juunit I disagree about him not using his size. He makes a ton of catches in traffic where he catches the ball with his hands while using his body to shield himself, he has very good body control. I think part of the issue is he had a run-first QB who wasn't very accurate, so a better QB would find him more often. In the Miami game in particular, even though he had a ridiculous stat line, he left a few big plays on the field because his QB threw a bad pass or missed him completely.

If he comes in with a 35"+ vertical, I'm loving his future as a red zone target at the next level. He's already a big body with long arms, if he has that ability to vertically separate also, he could end up being a force.

juunit
juunit

@Brendan @juunit

It's not necessary for him to be a good blocker to be a good player. But I have my doubts about him at 18. I'm almost 100% sure that when the "re-draft" of 2014 is done, he won't be that high.

A TE with 3 TDs really worries me. People always like to bring up his size and how it's an advantage over DBs, but, he really doesn't use it to his advantage.

I think he's a good player and I wouldn't be mad if we drafted him. I just don't think he's worthy of 18. There are lots of opportunities to hit on receivers this year, even in the late rounds.

Brendan
Brendan

@juunit I want to draft Ebron for his receiving. I think he can become a competent blocker, but he'll never be a good one.

But I can live with decent blocking if he's leaping over safeties and stuff like that.

juunit
juunit

@levi @Brendan

It's why I don't like people who say about a prospect "they'll improve" in whatever area they need improvement in. Often, they don't. Especially not to the point of being good. Bad blockers very rarely become good ones. Bad run defenders very rarely become good ones. And the list goes on.

Brendan
Brendan

@levi Agreed. Once you get into the 3rd round and the athleticism gap between the pass-catchers and all-around TEs narrows I'd go with an all-around guy.

levi
levi

@Brendan  Ebron is such a talent that yes you take him. But the further down the board you go and still have one dimensional guys you are better off taking an all around guy. Depending on scheme of course. But you know Rex likes to pound the rock so a dual threat TE would be a good fit even if hes not spectacular at any one thing.

I cant understand why some guys cant learn to block effectively. You dont have to go far back to see it either. Cumby, Keller, Winslow, Sudfeld...Im sure they have had slight improvement over the years but they still are not good at it.

Brendan
Brendan

@levi Well, let's take ASJ vs. Ebron for an example.

ASJ is better as an all-around TE, but Ebron is much, much more explosive. I'd prefer Ebron, because I think blocking technique can be taught, but I realize other people would prefer the guy who can already block and is a solid pass catcher.

levi
levi

@Brendan I should have specified...unless they are very dynamic. But yeah it does make the D's job harder if a guy can do it all, even if hes not great at any one thing.

Brendan
Brendan

@levi Me thinks you'd feel a lot better about one-dimensional TEs if their one dimensional was exceptional.

Ebron's physical abilities and hands make his one dimension pretty damn enticing.

levi
levi

@Brendan I think Niklas is well rounded and Ive seen enough one dimensional TE's for a while.

Brendan
Brendan

@levi I've only seen him in watching ND games (I caught like 5 this year). I like Gilmore from CSU more, but I admittedly haven't really watched Niklas' film.

Gilmore just strikes me as a fluid athlete with some size who is being underrated.

levi
levi

@Brendan I didnt mention Watkins because I assume he will be gone. Im liking the TE from Notre Dame Niklas if they dont land one early.
