(miketaliaferro) I have to laugh… Folks say CJ "has lost a step," as if they knew what they were talking about.

Considering that CJ started his career being 5 steps faster than any other player in the NFL, that officially makes him now only 4 steps faster than every other player in the NFL.

Poor, broken down Chris Johnson...

OK, the Jets have 6 minicamp tryout guys in house. 4 kickers and 2 offensive Linemen.

LOL,  When I read the headline, I thought it was referring to how fast Vick runs, he reached 3rd base before the bat hit the ball..haha,

Leave it to Jet media to discuss Pryor as the DROY, when he hasn't played one down.  Losers talk, winners talk after they win it all.  And sometimes, they let their play do their talking.

Vick has got to be one of the dumbest dudes on the planet.  There's no way he can run a WCO.  Chances are, he'll run it 80% of the time, get himself hammered by a safety, and be done before the end of the pre-season.  Good riddance, moron.

"Michael Vick hits softball home run, but runs toward third base first"

Cue Joey:

"My big concern is that Vick doesn't know his right from his left"

I don't see how anybody realistically beats out JD Clowney for DROY. Pryor would have to have north of 5 picks and some SCTop10 plays where he decimates Sammy Watkins or something like that. And then there's Aaron Donald, who is blessed enough to play on a line that already features Chris Long and Robert Quinn.

I like Pryor and think he will be a great safety. I'm just not sure about being the DROY in what has been touted as one of the greatest draft classes in recent memory.

Voluntary no more, as the paychecks truly begin to be earned tomorrow, June 17th, with the New York Jets beginning their full-squad mini-camp.  This will be the last chance for fringe players to state their claim to receive an invitation to training camp in Cortland, New York.

Are there any non-roster fringe players actually being invited to mandatory minicamp, though, on a tryout basis?  (Like we did last year with Kellen Winslow and Mike Sims-Walker?)  Because I haven't heard of any invites yet, and if the mandatory minicamp is just the 90 guys already under contract, all those guys already have invites to Cortland.

So a the Team and Marty are alll going into their second year together into Marty offense..

So things may flow a little better..Oh I'm still waiting for Winters to make a play.

I dont think Rex is spinning it, Landry will be playing a lot especially early on until Pryor gets comfortable. A rook will not just step in , in Rex's complicated defense from day one and be the defensive QB, it will take a little time, and Landry is a savvy vet who knows the defense in his sleep.

Plus, having a bum knee, a worse OL & a pop-gun QB putting all the D focus on him, I'm not sure WHY he didn't rush for 2K yards…

He must be falling apart.

@a57se Of the two OL, Dominguez was at OTA and played one preseason game last year with the Cowboys and Campbell is a disappointing 4th round pick who has only played 54 snaps in the NFL since being drafted in 2010.

@williamg1

That's not a good sign.  (And no, the other no-shows were pretty inconsequential, but this one WOULD carry some weight, since this is the first mandatory event he's missed.)

@harvlis How dare the Jets media talk about their highly-touted defensive rookie as a potential DROY!

Did you bother reading the article? It's not predicting it, it's saying it's possible and is more a discussion on how various people (both team affiliated and not) are high on the kid.

Bent

@harvlis The story actually grew out of comments from last year's rookie of the year Sheldon Richardson, who said that Pryor had learned the defense better than he had at this stage.  Asking the question of whether he could emulate Richardson's rookie season was a logical direction for that conversation to flow to from those comments.

@Ceifus Hornswoggle On this evidence, he'd run an East Coast Offense by accident.

@tsjc68 Not sure when but punter Daniel Sepulveda was coming in to work out.

I guess any of the 90 players there now could see their camp invite rescinded at any time, although the only one last year was Tripucka who was ousted to make room for Winslow.  There were more changes between mini-camp and training camp in 2012 (pre-Idzik) though.

@jake100 Rex said very clearly that Landry is playing with the backups because he wants to get Pryor/Allen as much time as possible. If Landry is on the team (and I'd be fine if they replaced him with Reed, fwiw), he'll be part of a 3-man rotation back there until the two young guys can consistently outplay him.

Nelson is Geno's favorite target, I can't see him being in the "losers," he's at-worst a #4 on this team, imo.

kniff

@jake100 Thanks for this Joey, I agree that Geno, Marty, are winners this year, but Cumby and Nelson losers? No way. Depth, durability, knowledge of system, and unproven replacements, drive my thinking...

Powell really should be respected more as well...no?

They shouldn't even discuss it, at this point.

@Bent

Gracias.

Titans put James Gayle on IR (a UDFA target I was keen on picking up).  Chargers just cut D.J. Adams, though.  I'd love to give him a minicamp tryout.  He can have Lowell Rose's job.

Steven Windeler

@kniff  I don't think it's a lack of respect. They said it was through no fault of their own.

For sure Cumberland, Nelson, and Powell will have to fight for touches this year, when last year they couldn't get off the field.

To me Nelson has the best chance to retain his starting job, but it won't be easy.

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se He wasn't there yesterday, either. It was just a physicals/check-in day, but it's telling.

Brendan
Brendan

@Steven Windeler I know, I didn't insinuate that they were saying that. I don't consider Nelson being slightly demoted as being "phased out." I think him being a #4 is a good spot for him, because he will get more than typical #4 reps in all likelihood.

tsjc68
tsjc68

@williamg1 @a57se @tsjc68

Or he at least knows that he has to demonstrate to the team that he's healthy and ready to contribute, to avoid being put on either the PUP, IR, or a reserve/suspended list.

D.J. ADAMS, COME ON DOWN!

a57se

@Brendan

Yup. Gotta wonder what don't we know about all this.

Hopefully he isn't sleeping another one off in a car somewhere!

Brendan

@a57se Not really funny to joke about that considering Goodson was most likely in rehab last August and might have a substance abuse problem.

I will reserve judgement for that reason, but this certainly doesn't speak well of his chances to make the roster.

williamg1
williamg1

@Brendan @a57se I'm thinking Idzik made it clear that they want to cut ties with Goodson as soon as they get the cover they need (which, I assume, is based on how his case goes). And, because of that, Goodson isn't bothering to waste his time.

Maybe......

Brendan
Brendan

@williamg1 Hm, I'm not sure the team would do that if they stuck with him through this last season when they could have cut him.

I'm sure the team and Goodson have spoken, I just have no idea what either side said, nor can I really guess.

But the fact is Goodson isn't here and other guys are and that's bad news for Goodson.

tsjc68
tsjc68

@williamg1 @Brendan @a57se

It will be telling if the team will attempt to fine him for skipping minicamp, or if they excuse him and eschew the fine.  Let's see.

a57se
a57se

@Bent @a57se

Seems like we have kept Alex Green around as an insurance policy in case Goodson is a goner.

I would think if we ended up cutting Goodson we wouldn't automatically bring in another RB...

EDIT: How'd you like the season Finale bent?

Bent

@a57se Yeah, maybe.  Perhaps Green deserves a longer look anyway.
