Idzik was so smart not to after peppers ..the packers are dumb. Thier organization never wins. I like how idzik laughs in the face of convention and doesn't care about winning games this year .#all patt of the plan ;) hes a ninja!

Has it occurred to anyone that there are several reasons for idzik not to throw $ at FAs? 1- these are not the best players in the game. They've all been locked up by their teams. 2- the jets have to lock up their own FAs over the next 2 years (holding over cap $ will allow for that) 3- next years FA crop may be better than what is available this year. 4- it will become more clear in another year what the jets truly need. (Now they have so many needs it doesn't make sense to overpay for plugging any one hole). Things are looking up but let's not kid ourselves. This was a complete rebuild.

Idzik went out to see Amaro's pro day. Anyone think he can fall to us in the 2nd round?

Favorite moment from the podcast yesterday, the guest says Breno is good enough to start for about half a season, Corey goes "Fair enough"

So Marty was at Brandin Cook's pro day and Idzik was at Jace Amaro's, glad the team finally got our memo about the offense

Does anyone like this guy? I forget which reporter it is that I dislike very much but his name kind of sounds like MANISH MEHTA!!!!!

Decker is better. Then get Evans or Lee in the first round.

@jma020  don't think so, but Niklas can and Jets should take him.

I think we have a shot at him in the 2nd. His stock fell after the combine so we might be able to get him

@MarshRandy

I posted that yesterday.  Just sad, no backbone to combat a silly statement.

The man just started for 2 season on the Super Bowl champions...duh

You think they haven't been scouting offensive players?

@Mike Milea I wish I knew why we link to anything that tool says....my dog guesses better at what is going on than he does....he should be banned, both for his utter incompetence, as well as being the capo di tutti capo of feminine hygiene products...

@Mike Milea  I do kind of feel for Rex.  Idzik is being patient and treating this like a long term plan.  Meanwhile Rex has his job on the line next season if they don't at least go 8-8.

@jake100

Your bones have not been the best indicator this off season.  In Idzik we trust

@jenkins @jma020    I think the Jets would be better served with Niklas,  a guy with a reputation for being a good blocker,  which we need since we plan on running the ball with Ivory a lot.   But he is also capable of running routes and catching the ball and eventually should be a legitimate threat in that area.

jma020
jma020

@jenkins @jma020  In almost all the mocks iv'e done on fanspeak he's been in available in the 2nd round.  One draft i had Ebron and Amaro just because he was too good to pass on in the 2nd.

Pat d
Pat d

Why did his stock fall?

Pat d
Pat d

Why does everyone say Rex's job is on the line. That doesn't make sense. If the team is looking long term what makes you think Rex isn't in the long term picture.

harold
harold

@jma020

I don't see it that way at all.  If Rex wants to win he needed upgrades on offense.  Lets grab a CB and go to battle. We can pick up the other pieces in the draft and later in FA

harold
harold

@bklyndude

He is expected to run before the draft though.  So we will see.

bklyndude
bklyndude

@harold      He's most likely not running on his Pro Day,  won't be ready.   There is a chance he falls to the middle of the second round.  I'm sure you would want to pounce on him if he did.   Trading up a few spots in the second might be something to consider,  and Niklas should be there when we pick in the second round, not a bad pick either.  I don't think Niklas is dropping to our third round pick,  he's not a secret anymore.

harold

@bklyndude

ASJ will probably go in the 1st.  He is just a little off the radar because of his broken foot.

jma020
jma020

@bklyndude @jma020 @jenkins  I'm fine with that.  I want the best player.  I'm kind of a fan of Ebron because I see him as having Elite TE potential, whereas Cooks, Lee and ODB I view as having solid WR potential.  Also I think that having a really good TE helps the offense in the passing and running game more where a WR really contributes mainly in the passing game.

Still think we need to focus on having a good running ball control offense.  I'm not looking to make this offense dynamic.  I want to make it sustainable, and get the defense to the dominant level.  I don't think we're that far away.

bklyndude
bklyndude

@jma020 @bklyndude @jenkins    I guess I've been leaning towards using the 18th pick on either a WR or CB, depending on whether DRC signs with us,   and getting a TE like ASJ or Niklas in the second round.   I think Ebron is probably better than Keller,  but blocking is not a strength for them.

I see the Jets getting a good blocking TE to pair with Cumberland as being a nice move long term.

harold
harold

@bklyndude

The one differnce is Keller was a small converted WR.

These guys are legit NFL TE's, they have a much better chance to be good blockers in time.

jenkins
jenkins

@jma020 @bklyndude @jenkins  Ebron can be a decent blocker eventually. That isn't Amaro's game, which is why people freaked at his slow 40 at the combine. Actually, I think Niklas'blocking is overrated right now, but he will be good at it with pro experience. His receiving skills are very good. He'll go in the 2nd. BB may trade up for him if he doesn't go for Amaro in the 1st.

bklyndude
bklyndude

@jma020 @bklyndude @jenkins    If you wait until the fourth,  Niklas will be long gone.   Ebron and Amaro being underrated as blockers just means it's not a strength.

After watching Keller be one dimensional when he was with us,  it makes me careful about drafting a TE high where their blocking is so-so.

jma020
jma020

@bklyndude @jenkins @jma020  Ebron and Amaro are underrated blockers.  Everyone assumes that since their strength is receiving, they can't block.  It's not true, they're both solid from what I've seen.  Niklas doesn't impress me much.  I'd maybe take him with out early 4th.

bklyndude
bklyndude

@jma020 @bklyndude @harold      I think Cro hurt the defense last year and I expect better play from whoever replaces him.    I think the rookies like Geno and Milliner and even Winters will play better from the start of the season.   Having Ivory from the beginning as well as either Goodson or a speedy rookie,  as well as Decker gives me hope that we can improve on  8-8.

If Geno regresses and plays like he did during the four game stinker stretch,  and we don't have a veteran QB to turn to,  I'm going to blame Idzik and not Rex.

jma020
jma020

@bklyndude @jma020 @harold  If by "build on 8-8" you mean do better than 8-8, I think that's an unfair expectation.  They didn't have an 8-8 roster last year.  They exceeded expectations, and two of the wins were very lucky.  Unless they upgrade the roster more significantly the FO has no right to put Rex (who by the way is the strength of the team, while the roster is the weakness) on the hot seat.

bklyndude
bklyndude

@jma020 @bklyndude @harold     I agree, especially after getting MM to run the offense.   Idzik seems very analytical and pragmatic in his thought process.  I think he knows what he has in Rex who is developing a rookie QB,  but again,  nobody gets forever.   I expect the team to build on last year's  8-8 season.  A lot riding on Geno this year.

jma020
jma020

@bklyndude @jma020 @harold  Rex is a great coach.  Fans take the fact that we have a top ten defense year in and year out for granted.

harold
harold

The #1 key to this season is the off season, but not FA or the draft.

The#1 Key is Geno's development if he develops we are in the playoffs if not we start over.

bklyndude
bklyndude

@jma020 @bklyndude @harold       Rex is a good coach,  but nobody gets forever.   Lovie Smith won ten games in Chicago and got fired.   The NFL is cold.

jma020
jma020

@bklyndude @jma020 @harold  Look if you're a win now team and the coach isn't doing it they should be on the hot seat.  But if the front office is operating like we arein the midst of a 4 year rebuild (as it should be), it's not fair for Rex to be expected to win now.

Mike Milea
Mike Milea

@bklyndude @jma020@haroldActually Tom Coughlin ONLY wins Super Bowls when he's on the hot seat... Look for the Giants in the Super Bowl this year... When Tom gets backed into a wall he comes out swinging.

bklyndude

@jma020 @harold    Isn't every coach always on the hot seat.  It's a what have you done lately kind of league.

jma020

@harold  In other words Idzik has more leeway to be patient than Rex does.

jma020
jma020

@harold  I don't disagree.  Rex CAN be fine.  But we still have more work to do on the roster for sure.  And I would understand if Rex is getting a bit concerned being that his job is on the line next year and we definitely haven't made major upgrades.
